    I don't think it's because of this video but now Palau is becoming over-touristy. They get almost 6 times their own population every year in tourism.

    When stating Palau is in the front lines of climate change, please show specific examples of this change. Helps to support the argument. I believe you showed fish and some aerial shots of small islands.

      She did..... because of climate change... the waters are devouring islands.... you can’t show the water rising because that would be like a 10 year project...

    • @richardnsalvador
      @richardnsalvador 6 років тому +8

      JimCTSCLO, sorry this is months after your initial question.... But if you listen to the September 26, 2018 United Nations General Assembly speech of the president of Palau, Tommy Remengesau (who is featured in this short video), you can learn about the examples of what he and Palau are doing to address climate change. You can see the video of the president's UNGA speech here: gadebate.un.org/en/73/palau
      The "fish and some aerial shots of small islands" you cite are mere evidence of a larger argument being promoted and work that is ongoing in Belau (Palau) and elsewhere to address the serious issues of climate change. Read, study, and try to understand what other peoples and nations are doing to address climate change rather than belittling the efforts made to support the work of preserving our environment and saving our planet.

    Palau is definitely affected by climate change and it is of great concern, but to say "The Vanishing Nation" that it could be under water in mere decades is a little much, let's be real. I really want the world to help us with our issues with climate change, so let's not cry "wolf" all the time.

    You went only to palau? Since youre already in the micronesia, why not go to all of the islands of micronesia? Palau is not the only micronesian country facing climate change, in fact ALL OF OUR ISLANDS ARE FACING CLIMATE CHANGE .. ALL MICRONESIAN ISLANDS !

  • @liltoaster7308
    @liltoaster7308 6 років тому +9

    I think they need to focus on actually cleaning out the islands first. Islands like Peleliu, Ngesebus and Anguar in southern Palau are littered with millions upon millions of munitions left from the fierce battles there in ww2. People are getting blown up from them and marine life is getting poisoned.

    • @temarikel8674
      @temarikel8674 3 роки тому +2

      While you may be right about the munition remnants, I doubt there are millions and millions of them. I also don't believe people are getting blown up by them.

    • @liltoaster7308
      @liltoaster7308 3 роки тому

      @@temarikel8674 According to post war statisticians, during the battle of Peleliu, in accordance to ammunition stockpiled and unaccounted for afterward, it was estimated that 13.32 million .30-calibre rounds, 1.52 million rounds of .45-calibre rounds and 693,657 rounds of .50-calibre rounds were fired by US Marines and Soldiers along with 1,845 14inch shells, 1,793 500lb bombs and 519 16inch shells all fired by both Naval vessels, Naval aviators and Marine aviators. Furthermore, 118,262 grenades were used as well as 150,000 mortar rounds. This is only a statistic for US fighting forces and does not even begin to account for the rounds fired by the 10,900 man Japanese garrison who fought on the island or the several hundred Japanese who landed during the battle. I think from these figures it's safe to assume that there are in fact millions of munitions, large and small, still on Peleliu.
      I should also note that the munitions threat does indeed affect the population of Peleliu, however, it's likely that this was more of an issue earlier on. “The greatest concentration, a result of fighting between U.S. and Japanese forces in 1944, still threatens the civilians living on the island of Peleliu,” U.S. State Department official Jerry Guilbert told FORUM.“From 2009 to 2018, the United States invested more than U.S. $3.5 million in conventional weapons destruction in Palau.” Another article published by the Australian Government and AusAID states; "In Palau, UXOs threaten locals during their subsistence food gathering for land crabs and bats. They also threaten tourists and tourism operators who dock their dive boats directly above sites where 1000 pound bombs have been uncovered. Children in Palau have also been known to present live grenades with pins pulled out for school history projects."

    • @temarikel8674
      @temarikel8674 3 роки тому +1

      Given the well documented fierceness of that battle, those stats are certainly reasonable. And I do agree the exposure of the locals to the munitions was likely more prevalent early on. Fast forward to today tho, I haven't seen anything to indicate the locals being injured from unexploded munitions, even before the recent cleanup effort you mentioned. With regards to the poisoning of marine life, you may be right, but it's still very hard to believe because you're talking about the southern portion of the archipelago. Probably over 90% of the tourist diving in all of Palau is done in these waters just to see what probably is in the top 5 richest marine biodiversity in the world. I'm more inclined to say the marine life is doing just fine.

    • @liltoaster7308
      @liltoaster7308 3 роки тому

      @@temarikel8674 The Marine life isn't doing terribly, it's just that UXOs leak acid and eroded materials into some of the water supplies around Peleliu which can causes deadzones as was the case for many Pacific islands during ww2. This issue mostly resides in the mangrove swamps to the island's eastern half which is now somewhat dangerous to pass through because a lot of unexploded ordnance simply doesn't detonate in a swamp and because these swamps were both the site of a potential suicide patrol by the 5th Marines and a bivouac area for the 1st Marines, the area saw a lot of shelling. This ecosystem was home to some saltwater marine life but at this point some marine life spawning areas were moved to areas of lesser affected or more easily cleaned areas, the former being the channel between Peleliu and Ngesebus island to the north and the latter being the reef shelf off of White beach, hence why marine life as you mentioned is fine now, but have been greatly restricted to certain areas due to environmental destruction. As far as civilian injuries and deaths, I have only heard testimony from the people of Peleliu and vague reports from US and Australian ordnance clearing groups so I won't press that any further as there isn't any sufficient evidence for me to use.

    • @temarikel8674
      @temarikel8674 3 роки тому +1

      @@liltoaster7308 with that we certainly agree. The locals seem to be concentrated more towards the NW portion of Peleliu where it's safer. Of course it's less swampy so it's easier to build homes on that side. Thanks for the knowledge. Interesting discussion. BTW, I always thought it was Ngedebus, not Ngesebus.

    12 All those that you follow in the religions have no mandate from God. God did not send them. A king can send his servant to go and call his wife who is on a journey. But this does not give everyone the right to go and call the king's wife. If you do so, you will be asked, "Sir, by which mandate do you speak to the queen?" And the sentence is hanging.
    13 And all of you, leaders of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Shintoism, Sikhism, Confucianism and Taoism, on which date, in which language, where and how did God speak to you to send you? In which appearance did God appear to you? I that speak to you, when an audible voice speaks to me, I know if that voice is the one of the Lamb of April 24, 1993 or not.
    14 The Word of God comes only to a prophet. And therefore, a ghost voice cannot say to an Ephesian 4, on April 2, 1962, "My servant, I give you three keys… Your time is over in this city". And in this time of scams, can an unknown voice say to you, "Honey, where did you put the key of the bedroom?" and you will tell him where you put the key? When scammers send you emails, text messages or call you, you are careful, but when it comes to Salvation, it doesn't mean anything to you because you are children of Satan.
    15 All your religious leaders have heard voices without seeing the author of those voices. Your imams, khalifs, pastors, rabbis, monks, and sâdhus are all scammers. Every prophet in the Bible saw a person. Isaiah 6:1 says, "In the year of the death of king Uzziah, I saw the Lord sitting upon a very high throne;" Jeremiah 1 says, " Jehovah spoke to me and put forth his hand and touched my mouth…" But what about your religious leaders? They are all scammers.
    16 And when your religious leaders say to you, "A voice said to me…", you are afraid to ask them where that voice comes from because you are children of the devil and Salvation after death means nothing to you. But all the children of God among you will come to me.
