If CIG told us 3 years ago "Tony Z left, Quanta is up in the air, we will need a few extra years to finish it now" that is 100x worse than when they admitted that the BMM was being pushed back, and that time their hand was forced because they had JUST promised us they were finishing it up, and needed to tell us they were actually not going to finish it up. 🤷♂️
That was riiiiight around the time CIG suddenly switched all their staff over to go full steam on Squadron 42, and the PU got left to moulder for a few years. I suspect he left before that, and to minimize the impact on perception and on development, they switched up the plan to cover up that Quanta was dead in the water, and had been. The "progress" on Quanta was never realized or demonstrated to be advancing. Behind the scenes, I don't think it was. At least, we've never seen it.

The name Quantum was chosen due to the idea of probability volumes created from quanta and player actions which resulted in those probability volumes being fed into wave functions that would collapse giving rise to dynamic missions. It was a much more appropriate name for what they envisioned and was before they decided that everything had to be prefixed by star.
While im sure that the qunatum system imagined by Tony Z is still there at heart. And a node system will work. I think it is posible to make quantum work exactly as they origonally envisioned it. They just need a few priority queues with a random selection modifier which weight for items higher in the queue. (I can think of 3 ways of setting this up) One for each tradeable commodity. Then anytime a quantun NPC wants to trade something, all they need to do is access the queue, and now you have a destination. Then all you need to do is use the node system for the quantum navigation. And suddenly you have a simple quantum system, provided that you don't overpopulate it. Which is what I think CIG did. A simple system run once, is fine. A million times, is okay. A trillion times, and you may have an issue. Especially, if your accessing it each second. And after seeing as many NPC spawn and navigation bugs i have, i think this is likely an issue.
I've been in 3.23.1 practising with 'logistics'. Container handling isn't reliable and their are still other bugs with basic operations. I'm looking forward to 3.4 being a lot easier to do basics like getting a Pyro Multi tool to have a Tru-Hold Tractor beam to fit in it. Thanks for your Evocati experience update!

As someone interested in the development, I wish CiG was more open about roadblocks and things that don't work out as planned and what they want to try, but seeing what's going on on the Spectrum most of the time, I can understand why they don't. I honestly believe the Quanta idea which "He who shall not be named" created looks great on paper but as you have said will not scale well. It will require a lot of server resources to simulate all these little bots, so a least effort solution is needed in place of this.
One other thing to consider eith how cargo running will be handled is if they will interwine it with mission chains thst would draw inspiration from story lines like Halet, Romeo and Juliet ( two warring factions thst fight each other, would would fit into Pyro nicely), or Journey to the West or something else. Just be wary of anything involving a black blade named Stormbringer that thing is evil and will eat your soul for a snack.

While they did say they watched creator vids, don't hurt your arm patting yourself on the back. I did truck8ng long haul for 10 years, most of it running my own truck. That entire SCL was basically logistics 101. It's quite literally space "trucking" lol.
I think we may also be seeing what is essentially the BIG deal about start citizen (that being quantum economy) if you consider games like Star Atlas and others basically trying to copy the model of SC as its being produced it makes sense to me that the "holy Grail" of tech would be keep very tight to the chest until it was ready...Really hoping its something amazing when its all said and done.

Yes, miners don't have to wait for their refining jobs to be completed and can carry on mining, but truckers do one run and then their ship gets locked out for hours... not a fair comparison. I'm neither, but I can understand the frustration. I would be annoyed as hell if my combat ship got stuck restocking ammo for 5 hours after a couple of bounty missions. Also, Hamlet.

Said it elsewhere, but fork drivers of modern warehouses can load or unload 52 pallets from a truck in 20 -30 minutes. That would be similar timing to a freelancer or corsair or cutty since they only have room for a single fork at a time like semi trucks. A C2 holds much more cargo, but is also a very wide ramp. Should be able to get 4-6 forks wide at the front and the back to complete the task in roughly the same amount of time it takes a single fork to unload a single freelancer. What is that old riddle, if it takes 1 person 20 minutes to unload 52 pallets, how long does it take 10 people to unload 520 pallets? Also, no truck driver I have ever met loads or unloads his loads. They always use autoload. I would love to see CIG tell one of those truck drivers that it will be a 5 hour wait till their truck is loaded and that they should just go take a nap and come back in 5 hours. I know it is to just force people to hand load, but we have been doing that since physical cargo was introduced and it works remarkably well, snapping to grids and other crates. Not sure why that would be the focus of the new patch. Cargo is a new time sink. Your conclusion to just use another ship is valid, but also forces people to buy ships. People with a cutty starter pack have 1 ship, that can do cargo missions but they will have to sit and twiddle their thumbs for auto loading. Curious to know how long it will take to autoload a cutty.
I'd expect the economy, whatever they call it, to have had to go through several rethinks necessitated by the shifting details of server meshing's evolution, even if the sim's conceptual underpinnings have remained the same. As for Mr Beausejour, he's CTO now, right? I expect him or Tony Z to update us as soon as they have something to announce. Hamlet.

Anyway i dont care what the system is named or what color the ducks have but only that star citzen will get a life dynamic econmoy to prevent crowding of routes and generate intresting moments in my long hauls. Honestly if it calculated all in the backend and we just see random ships moving about or if the ships we see moving about actually have a influence on the cargo will only matter if the loss of a few ships will create a difference in the economy.
Quantum are the bots, Not the trade routes or quests / Cargo missions. The bots are what CIG can use for those. And for many other things. Quantum are the X variables used in the equations, Not the equations themselves or how CIG creates the Equations for any reason they need.
Tony Z is the dude they trot out when they need some pie-in-the-sky idea to get the whales to salivate. Most of the things Tony has spoken about have never made it into the game. I really hope no one is under the delusion that Tony's Quanta system will be implemented at the fidelity his months long prepared, money drumming presentation would have us believe it was.

@@RaysGuide imagine the alternative. If he stalled out, or left, what would they say? How about "we're dropping PU development for a few years and working on SQ42!" Supposedly he has been working on this for 10 years, and nobody has seen anything tangible that isn't a marketing presentation. It would be a fine reason to suddenly shift gears, and restructure the company if the person developing the foundational tech of the entire economy got axed or left and the alternative was telling backers the game would need to wait a couple extra years while somebody tried to sort it out.
Your physicalized "node" approach (as I understand it) is lacking in that it is sterile of the living, breathing Universe philosophy. I'd much prefer to substitute your node with an NPC Organization or sub-Org corporate entity (essentially acting as a command & control node). NPC Orgs can then overlap in an area thereby giving unique purpose to each activity. The NPC-required EvR Calculator concept defines efficiency so trade routes will form organically and remains constrained by economics which is required in a living, breathing Universe.

I know it is to just force people to hand load, but we have been doing that since physical cargo was introduced and it works remarkably well, snapping to grids and other crates. Not sure why that would be the focus of the new patch.
Cargo is a new time sink. Your conclusion to just use another ship is valid, but also forces people to buy ships. People with a cutty starter pack have 1 ship, that can do cargo missions but they will have to sit and twiddle their thumbs for auto loading. Curious to know how long it will take to autoload a cutty.

I'd expect the economy, whatever they call it, to have had to go through several rethinks necessitated by the shifting details of server meshing's evolution, even if the sim's conceptual underpinnings have remained the same. Well Hamlett ... Anyway i dont care what the system is named or what color the ducks have but only that star citzen will get a life dynamic econmoy to prevent crowding of routes and generate intresting moments in my long hauls. Honestly if it calculated all in the backend and we just see random ships moving about or if the ships we see moving about actually have a influence on the cargo will only matter if the loss of a few ships will create a difference in the economy.
Quantum are the bots, Not the trade routes or quests / Cargo missions. The bots are what CIG can use for those. And for many other things. Quantum are the X variables used in the equations, Not the equations themselves or how CIG creates the Equations for any reason they need.
In Hamlet, the prince seems revenge for his father murder. Perhaps Star Sim should seek revenge for the murder of Quantum.

I am not suprised to be honest. They couldnt hit the 3.23 deadline and they had an extra month+ and hangars still dont really work well lol But with people actually starting to test maybe ina nother month it will be worth releasing or we will get the standard we usually get....

Supposedly he has been working on this for 10 years, and nobody has seen anything tangible that isn't a marketing presentation.
It would be a fine reason to suddenly shift gears, and restructure the company if the person developing the foundational tech of the entire economy got axed or left and the alternative was telling backers the game would need to wait a couple extra years while somebody tried to sort it out.

Your physicalized "node" approach (as I understand it) is lacking in that it is sterile of the living, breathing Universe philosophy. I'd much prefer to substitute your node with an NPC Organization or sub-Org corporate entity (essentially acting as a command & control node). NPC Orgs can then overlap in an area thereby giving unique purpose to each activity. The NPC-required EvR Calculator concept defines efficiency so trade routes will form organically and remains constrained by economics which is required in a living, breathing Universe.

FYI, "wherefore" actually means "why", not "where". So the title is asking "why are you quantum?"
It's a little more subtle than that. English at the time had why and wherefore as slightly different meanings. Wherefore was more "how is it that". "Was ever there a man so beaten out of season? Where the why and the wherefore have neither rhyme nor reason?"
