OK, a non-catnip question. What terminals are you using? NO & COM? What gets the common? I assume the switch is hooked up to negative 5 volts? You close it manually then? I tried this years ago & gave up. I gutted the ROM to utilize entire space inside. Made a drawer & attached the ROM face to that. Then tried using a lever actuated by a servo to open & close it. Had problem making my own control circuit. You think relocating the board & use eject button to open & close it would work? Thanks!
Hey I’ve made some mods to mine. 1. I’ve added a switch on the back, so if a magnet came near, it wouldn’t activate it unless I activate the switch. 2. I added a closing mechanism where the button on the front could close it.
If you cut the tabs on the faceplate and carefully glue the face plate to the tray it gives you a little more room to work with as far as space to stash stuff.
I think the genius behind KipKay's videos is he knows how to identify and resonate with kids and kid adults from easy and cool how-to projects. The top comment, money, porn and marijuana says it all. ;-) I wonder if he has a focus group of teenagers for his videos. :-)
I like this idea as a "mystery box" kind of puzzle. What common item will open the drawer and reveal its hidden contents? A paperclip or credit card? Touching a certain sequence of places on the outside? Speaking a password? Nope...just one strong magnet.

Sounds like you're wanting to do that with a molex connector. If you want, I can try explaining in PM how it might be possible. I'm no scientist, but I think I can figure it out and help you with that. :)
I have at least a dozen of those DVD disc drives. People never remove them when they throw their computers away and they usually work fine. Some of them are easier to open than others. Some of them are almost impossible. I keep my stash in a DVD case "Barry Manilow Goes Disco" Nobody will ever open that puppy. lol
I cant make the motor move... with 3V battery nothing happens. PLugged 3V + 2xAA and I can hear motor making effort to move but with no result... Tested on 2 different DVD drives. What do I do wrong?
