Housing is a double edged sword when it comes to some installations, so this is a benefit but it can also be a downside. For example some of the bases where BAH is $1,500 and the housing is poorly maintained by the contractor they'll take the full amount of your BAH for something that realistically should be $200-$300 less than what they are taking. And yes some will say the reason they keep all of it is because they have to also maintain the housing, but again some of these contracted companies aren't even doing that, and if they are there should be a system in place where the company has to provide periodic proof that they are doing the maintenance of a set of buildings or complexes that would justify taking the whole $1,500 when anyone could tell you the rent for said housing shouldn't be more than say $1,000-$1,200. That extra $300-$500 the housing company pockets could be used to pay for things like home internet, or that little bit extra you do occasionally get charged if you go over the utility allowance that some if not most bases do have.
I wish they'd give you the option of using GI Bill for personal business endeavors. That’s a very honest video and those injuries are wild, I’m surprised your still moving, personally I thing those physical costs are too high, the women that leave weren’t meant for us so I don’t worry about those.
I think for specialty healthcare there are some nice benefits. I'm an RN and I'm going into an Army Nurse anesthetist (CRNA) program. The Army literally puts you on active duty with the sole job of going to a top-rated school for 100% free. Civi CRNA programs are 3-4 years and an average of $250k and can't be physically completed while holding a job. The time in the program counts towards retirement and you owe 5 on the back end. That's huge for me. I enlisted in the Guard for 3 years 12 years ago as an 11b; complete waste of my time. Didn't do anything, didn't gain anything other than meeting some inspirational people. And if you get hurt you can get something. In the civilian world you're SOL with social security
I am a civilian ( health and disability kept me from joining wanted to BADLY, but if I were in my biggest problem with the pay is not the amount for the lower enlisted ranks ( not that I would have a problem with that going up, but instead that I can be an 11B or I can be some person in an office that hardly ever goes "outside of the wire" when I am deployed and I will make the SAME amount of money no matter the danger level have the MOS. I know there is hazard pay,, but that seems to be more about flying or volunteering for extra hazardous duty that is not part of your MOS.
National Guard Soldiers should become fully fledged Veterans with all the benefits after at least 4 years or 5 years contracts. Some people don't know how hard this is like being disconnected from your Civilian world and going to Annual training, special orders, that can 1 or 2 months. Most of the employees don't pay military leave at so that means that if you are making some decent money and then your unit gets activated you would be just getting paid by the National Guard, sometimes is just like $140 a day or less. And if you can't even use Veteran benefits if you haven't been 180 in Active Duty, sometimes we just don't have the chance.
@5:57 you say the old school barracks were one big ass room with 3-4 guys. Dude, I was in the army 1980-1983 and it was 8 guys to a room, a big open common shower. Even at permanent party (32nd signal battalion) they were 4 man rooms, big open showers. Sucked, but it was what it was ...
And think about the fact that the Army (and Marines) has the longest time in the barracks, where in some cases you might be able to leave at E5 but in most cases you shouldn't count on leaving until e6, and some soldiers wind up getting stuck in the barracks for around ten years depending on how long it takes them to get to e6. I really can't fathom doing this "the old school barracks". That's beyond terrible
Not everyone is going to have the same experience you had in the military. I did 25 years in the Army, and loved it. It had its ups and downs but overall, it was more fun than a job…..until I made Master Sergeant, then everyone wants you to stop having fun. I helped a friend’s son get into the military and he totally did not like basic and AIT. Luckily he just went National Guard.
I am not joining for the pay or the benefits or any other things . I am joining because I am really thankful to this country *U.S* cuz it gave me everything that I could have ever imagined. I am not a U.S citizen but I am willing to take and give life for the freedom of this country !
I've heard about military programs that involve student loan forgiveness, although the mos has to be considered essential I believe. Lots of free money there
I think the army needs to get rid of hazing and bullying and more closely monitor NCOs that take their smoke sessions from disciplinary to boarder-line bullying. It came off as more professional it might be better.
You didn't mention the exchange. Easy credit. Sometimes good prices. Then there is the Shop my exchange web site. As a veteran I got a 75 inch TV, washer and dryer plus just ordered a kitchen table with chairs. No tax and free delivery. A lot less then the community
Great video. I'm 30 and waiting on the chief medical officer to give me the ok to sign my 91B contract (thanks genesis 🙄) If nothing changes my ship date is September 26th. I'll be starting out as an E-3 and I hope I won't have to live in the barracks too long.
You said "I hope I don't have to live in the barracks too long". I've got some bad news for you, my guy. You didn't join the Air Force, where you are guaranteed to move out of the barracks by the rank of e4, and I some cases even e3. You joined the Army, where you have to stay in the barracks until e6, with some cases e5. Air Force has three years max to live in the barracks, whereas some soldiers in the Army have to stay in the barracks for around ten years. So too bad you didn't get this checked out ahead of time before joining the Army. The only way you're getting out the barracks before long in the Army is to get married.
Hey buddy we’re literal in the same boat! I’m 30 and also waiting to get the all clear from the chief! My question is how fast are they shipping after I pick my job and go to MEPS, I did the first part of MEPS
@@irvingmaldonado9265 I built my job packet with my recruiter and In that packet it gave me multiple ship dates I can choose. Some jobs have more ship dates than others and if im not mistaken all jobs provide a $5000 quick ship bonus (7 days or sooner)
@10:51 you talk about "liquid eggs". Jeez man, really? I was in 1980-1983 and breakfast was the best meal of the day with fresh eggs in the chow hall. Two slices of toast, a cheese omelette laid across said toast, then smothered in cream beef! Pepper that baby down ... Damn! That was some good eatin!
With the end of a pension program for a 401K, its much more lucrative to just go join a Civilian defense contractor than go into the military, at least you'll make enough to make the 401K worth it. After recruiting for years and seeing how the benefits have trickled to almost nothing, I actively discourage people from joining now. If they took better care of their troops and got back to the Patton doctrine of Soldiers' first instead of encouraging toxic leadership, then maybe they wouldn't have such a shortage.
I had a question I can't find anywhere else. So I have a mother that can't really travel a lot but she is my dependent and I also have a wife which will want to come with me everywhere I POS to. Let's say I wanted to get a house for my mom to stay at using the VA loan so she is in one place, but me and my wife is moving, can I be able to get BAH for my mom's location and for the location I get sent to? Thank you!
Reserves good I did both, you get a weekend to hang out, get extra money but go home each night. Go to the field for two weeks all good. Plus, you have a government job you get paid twice, let me know if u need anything else, what mos?
So I live in California and I want to join 31B. Can I buy a house in CA with the house program or do I have to buy the home in the state that I’m stationed at?
If you are using the VA loan then you have to buy it where you live because there is typically a clause that you must be the one living in it for the first 2 years and then you can sell it or rent it out but also banks might not want to give you the loan for a home that is not where you currently work.
As a 92Y E5 reservist and a section leader with over 25 sm in my platoon, I would assume I should get an reenlistment bonus with low retention. I’m in my enlistment window and for my MOS I do not qualify for a bonus. It’s time I get out, no benefits of staying in if I can’t even get paid.
@@cozmicchaos6400 im in my reenlistment window and I talked to retention a few months ago. He stated that 92Y will not have reenlistment bonus for FY24 no matter your rank or position.
Army Job is the prestigious, Honour and Respect. Otherwise You Said about benefits that's the minor things, because its available at every job.which is the best benefits from military jobs.
And I'd imagine you'd get to have more time with your kids in AF than you might in Army because in Army you have to go to the field for weeks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression that while the AF can send you away for weeks on a temporary duty assignment, more likely than not, you at least would be able to have some cell phone mobile data and/or Internet access to call home at least once in a while ...as opposed to an army soldier in the woods in the middle of nowhere for weeks or longer on end???
So I'm 34 years old and I've had a career in the glass container business for the past 13 years. Unfortunately the business is dying and I'm as far I can go. I completed a 4 year apprenticeship as a furnace repairman/millwright. Could any of my civilian experience translate to an army career? I know I'm older but I've been doing industrial mechanical, maintenance and heavy equipment operations for most of my adult life.
At 34 years old, I'd say be a contractor if anything. Don't join the military. If you do join the military, on active duty, then join the Air Force instead of the Army. The Army is more of a kids game.
Been in almost 20, never didn’t get paid. It’s taken a minute to get HFP and additional pays straightened out but 1st and 15th always been chicken dinner 🤙
There has been times where they said military might not get paid due to a shutdown but they have always found a way to still pay. So I don't think they have actually ever shut down and soldiers did not get paid.
I find it funny that the romanian military dosen't even offer housing, food or even a uniform so you have to find rent outside where you are based in and cook for yourself. You even have to pay for your uniform out of your own pocket, I've heard you even have to pay for each bullet you don't return to the stockpile. The worst part? Your pension is almost the same as a civilian and you retire at 60/65 instead of the normal 65/70 for women and men respectively. Yet you americans get much free stuff, lucky you.
Oh yeah and you can't even choose your MOS like in the american military since they get contractors to work for them in all fields except medicine, equipment maintenance and admin, which require you to pay for yourself to get those university diplomas. And all for slightly above minimum wage which dosen't change unless you are one of the 2 lead officers of the unit usually chosen for nepotism and bribes.
I served with some of your dudes from the SOB back in the day in AF. Extremely patriotic and extremely willing to get in the fight. Very dedicated troops. Loved those guys. The biggest benefit for US soldiers is by far the behavior of your civilian population...as a german MSG in the german armed forces I can tell you that´s way different in Germany. As a german soldier you can be lucky when civilians just ignore you
Yes, make sure you ask for a bonus or get an MOS that gets a bonus. I completed training a few days ago for MP OSUT and got a $20,000 sign on bonus, my battle buddy didn't ask for one and enlisted as an E-1 with NO bonus. Ask and they'll usually give you some sort of bonus.
It was better to be homeless and live out of the gym than the free housing. You pay for tricare it's taken out of your check, and you are better off paying for Healthcare it can cost you more like an amputation. At least you told the truth about college.
Poisonous take and very incorrect. Don’t be the guy who’s salty because he married a stripper and probably couldn’t show up to formation shaved or on time.
You can't join active duty if you are a single parent. Only reserves or national guard. If you become a single parent after you are already in then they treat you the same as a married soldier.
Hey Christopher Chaos! Thanks so much for all the info you provide for future soldiers, current soldiers and veterans! But for the comment above, I have a battle buddy who is a single mother, active duty in the same mos. I think single parents can join but they need a waiver and someone who can care for the child when you are away or if you get deployed. But single parents are in active duty. Talk to a recruiter about it. Where there’s a will, there’s a way🙏🏾
Unlimited free healthcare? Free education? Housing security and basic minimum income? Wow, so to meet the things any rando enjoys in Canada you have to enlist to uncle sam? God bless 'murica I guess
I mean im old af. If I were a young man, upping would never be an option for me as long as I may be in combat with a woman. I am all for women fighting if they WANT TO.
I’m going to basic September 5th man I’m nervous but excited as well 😅

I am not a U.S citizen but I am willing to take and give life for the freedom of this country !
One of the top reasons was the free food. I was super skinny and put on at 40lbs by the time I got out.
The medical is so limited you can only go on base and only where and when they say too… not really free
I've heard about military programs that involve student loan forgiveness, although the mos has to be considered essential I believe. Lots of free money there
35 yrs old contemplating signing up, quit my wrenching job after 15 yrs in FEB, things arent lookin too great atm....
I think the army needs to get rid of hazing and bullying and more closely monitor NCOs that take their smoke sessions from disciplinary to boarder-line bullying. It came off as more professional it might be better.
Gosh, I hate the ARMY.

You didn't mention the exchange. Easy credit. Sometimes good prices. Then there is the Shop my exchange web site. As a veteran I got a 75 inch TV, washer and dryer plus just ordered a kitchen table with chairs. No tax and free delivery. A lot less then the community
They told me no for a moral waiver when I tried re-enlisting. Got set up with civilian law.
Dang. Good luck. Waivers are pretty tricky.
Great video. I'm 30 and waiting on the chief medical officer to give me the ok to sign my 91B contract (thanks genesis 🙄) If nothing changes my ship date is September 26th. I'll be starting out as an E-3 and I hope I won't have to live in the barracks too long.
Will be 30 tomorrow 👍

Can married soldiers who do not live with their family eat at the chow hall and pay for it

So I heard Schofield Barracks and Fort Carson are good places to be stationed.
Ehh if you like hawaii and don't think you'd get island fever, sure
Thank you!
Don't know, but in a case like that, you might have to do guard/reserves instead of active duty.
All fun & games till WW3 kicks off
Can you do a video on the benefits of the reserves? I just enlisted as a reservist, and I leave for basic next month
Cheese in a mousetrap is also free.
That means E5 92Ys are a dime a dozen. And if you're a leading a platoon of 25, they're looking for E6-E7. Get promoted if you want a bonus.
@@cozmicchaos6400 im in my reenlistment window and I talked to retention a few months ago. He stated that 92Y will not have reenlistment bonus for FY24 no matter your rank or position.
Nature of the beast. If the bonus is the deciding factor, it's best you get out.
Great! I want to serve so bad, but I have chondromalacia 😞. If somebody can help, I would appreciate with my soul 🙏🏼

Army Job is the prestigious, Honour and Respect. Otherwise You Said about benefits that's the minor things, because its available at every job.which is the best benefits from military jobs.
No one cares about that.
Other branches are more prestigious. Higher standards
Why does the un charge for I flight coming come home
They don't. Your talking to a scamer.
Lol, we veterans have EARNED EVERY PENNY of our benefits. But I would certainly do it all again!
I had 2 sons while in the AF. Their births didn't cost one dollar. My AF Capt son has 3 children at zero dollar cost.
There are jobs in the Army to operate have equipment. Specifically the 12 series MOS. I think there is even an HVAC MOS.
I don't think you should enlist, but rather be a contractor. You can work with the military without being military at all
Nope. you will have to start over.
At 34 years old, I'd say be a contractor if anything. Don't join the military. If you do join the military, on active duty, then join the Air Force instead of the Army. The Army is more of a kids game.

That's not always true about the paycheck. The government has been known to shut down before, preventing pay.

lol you will get it tho , just not on the date, i think this only happened twice...
There has been times where they said military might not get paid due to a shutdown but they have always found a way to still pay. So I don't think they have actually ever shut down and soldiers did not get paid.
@@christopherchaos That makes sense

Why can the men get money out of account
Do you get any benefits for serving in the army two or fewer years.
As long as you have a CAC / Military ID you can get discounts anywhere most of the time, TSA priority, preboarding, checked bags, etc
Two years will get you about 80 percent of the post 9/11 GI Bill. Also, two years is the minimum for eligibility for VA healthcare.
And all for slightly above minimum wage which dosen't change unless you are one of the 2 lead officers of the unit usually chosen for nepotism and bribes.
thats Romania :p, is Romania still Russia? controlled ?

Hi , is it possible to be enlisted without a Bonus ?

What about single parents
You can't join active duty if you are a single parent. Only reserves or national guard. If you become a single parent after you are already in then they treat you the same as a married soldier.
Hey Christopher Chaos! Thanks so much for all the info you provide for future soldiers, current soldiers and veterans! But for the comment above, I have a battle buddy who is a single mother, active duty in the same mos. I think single parents can join but they need a waiver and someone who can care for the child when you are away or if you get deployed. But single parents are in active duty. Talk to a recruiter about it. Where there’s a will, there’s a way🙏🏾
Hope this helps
