This is a pro. I was single when I was on active duty. I did not have to worry about a wife cheating or leaving. As to my battle buddies that were married I saw some of their marriages thrive and some fail. All in all, in a marriage it takes 2 to make it work. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

No matter how bad your barracks are, it’ll never be worse than being in the Navy and being forced to live aboard your ship while it’s in home port because your installation doesn’t have enough housing.
I knew several people who looked up their old sweethearts from back home and married them because barracks life was that unbearable. None of them regretted it and I never met a married soldier who would've traded places with single soldiers.
Barracks Inspections were on every Monday and Friday.. they would do home visits every thursday each month.. my unit were so in our faces that I don't even like having guests unless they schedule a week in advance
From my time in the Army through my career of a public servant just shy of 30 years, I heard too many "horror stories" of guys who got taken by vengeful ex-spouses. Scared me enough not to get married.

When I was single we would get picked for extra detail duty or when someone didn't show up for duty. When I got married the con was being away for long time. Being single you save money when you are deployed
Just graduated BCT and am now in AIT as a married soldier for 46S, and as hard as it can be being away from her if you have the strength and persistence to get through it it’s definitely worth it if it’s someone you love in my opinion. However I also understand everyone’s situation is different

You learn journalism, video production, photography, graphic design, and social media skills. It’s a lot packed together and I’m definitely looking forward to it

When I was an MP at Benning in 1997 or so, I got a call to go to the Custer Terrace housing area because a shot had been fired. I parked about a block away and walked to the address. It was a guy doing a solid for a single Soldier by holding onto his new .40 S&W pistol. He had accidentally 'test fired' it 45 minutes or so after the guy dropped it off. The round went out the kitchen window just above the sink, shot across the street, and ended up on the threshold of the quarters across the street. The bullet went through the lower part of a screen door, hit the inner wooden door but then bounced back onto the threshold. I remember telling the guy that he had not done so well by his buddy.

pro for both: getting to traveling around the world, I was on active duty, I was able to travel around the world. Also, when I was a single parent in the military, it was hard to travel as much due to the responsibility of being that NCO and mom. Now that I am a veteran, and now married to an active duty soldier, we are still able to travel, expect when he is in the field and now deployed to Poland, I'd rather wait until he get home and travel as a family.

Also, the work stress will lead you to take a lot of those stress problems home with you to your spouse. So again, don't get married unless you can handle that well. I didn't and it lead to a divorce. I didn't last a year before we split up.
Out of sight, out of mind... 😎.... if you are a enlisted, get OUT when not assigned or working. Even if you work shifts, ⌚, most NCOs or company officers dont care. Lower enlisted soldiers get treated like 🗑.
When I joined I stated 11B and airborne. Got both. Where I ended up we all had privite owned firearms in our barracks We also had issue M16A1s and ammo as well as other arms and ammo. Don't forget the hundreds of frags. No barracks insectiona or health and wellness inspections. Highly classified compound. Post commander didn't get in if we did not want him in.

It's not for everyone. The spouses always seem to enjoy the romanticism at first, but once reality sets in, it's fleeting. Unless you can homestead somewhere for years and you have time with each other and whatever kids you want to have, don't do it until you've been in for at least 3 years. I’m currently going through the enlistment process now (my wavier should be passed soon) but I have a child with my girlfriend and I had to “sign away rights” temporarily while I’m in training. I had to speak with JAG and a few other higher ups cause they wanted to make sure I was making the right decision. My question is, if we don’t get married by the time I ship to basic, will she and our child be able to live off post together? Only if you have costody of the child. You could qualify for BAH and BAS. If she is still the only one with costody rights then no. You would have to get married to get BAH and BAS.

I'm single & 50. I served as a lower enlisted, Spc E4 in the 1990s. 95B, 🚔. I HIGHLY suggest not having a spouse or get married 🤵🏻👰🏼 until you have 10-12/15 years on active duty. Like if you enter as a E-1, get married, engaged 💍 like E-7, E-8. A warrant officer or lower commissioned officer might be able to deal with a wife/husband but it depends on the MOS, couple. I read in the 1990s SF/SOF had around 95% divorce rate(first marriage). Some younger guys would think a wife may mean free or supported 🏡. Also less hassles from senior NCOs or platoon officer. I considered that a scam but the Army pushed for couples, married to encourage re enlistment, retention.

It was easier being single on active duty . You just had to do your job and get things accomplished. There are plenty of single female soldiers to spend time with ,unless you have a gf off post or just to goof around with . Overall it is easier to be single on active duty. It can even be more fun as well.
I see all these men bashing women as cheaters when it goes both ways and not all women marry for the damn benefits I am marrying my fiance because of how I feel about him and we actually enjoy doings things together like working on a project vehicle learning how to fix a vehicle and going trail offroading. I am proud of my fiancé for joining the army and I support him and his goals.

Lemme tell you, as a single NCO you'll be called into work or asked to stay later/do duty more often. Since you're single, your time doesn't matter as much as married folks 😂 If it were less cons than pros, you wouldn't see all of these contract marriages lol. I can't image having been single while on active duty. Life would be comparative shit.... living in a barracks, eating in a chow hall, living on post.... every single day, year after year. No thank you. The big problem for many though is marrying someone who is vastly too emotionally immature for the real stresses of military life, deployments, etc, and things fall apart. Whoever you marry needs to be mentally strong, and reasonably independent and self-reliant. They need to be comfortable living and run a household, alone, in a new town/State/country, for long periods of time. Hard to find in someone, particularly a female, less than 25-30 years old or so.
No wife means that a serviceman CAN NOT be held responsible for her actions. Civilian wife gets ticketed by the MPs. 2 weeks remedial driving school. She opened a joint account in Columbus Georgia and bounced checks. I returned from overseas and heard about it.The bank was getting ready to contact the army. Bad checks was one reason for my being barred from re-enlistment. 12 years gone. She borrowed money from the Fort Benning Red Cross. They called the captain and I had to fork over. A dumb female 2nd Lieu Tenant in the Army Emergency Relief fund gave about $300. Forked over again. I had 9 years Time in Grade, but was kept from the promotion board. One Paragraph under Article 137 is Failure to pay just debts.Not paying could have caused a Federal Felony conviction, jugged for 90 days and a Dishonorable Discharge. Anyone jugged gets an automatic reduction in rank to Pay Grade E-1.Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice(UCMJ) every case is a Federal felony.

Join the army and you will deal with this for a much longer time as long as you stay single and enlisted (can't leave the barracks in the army until you reach e6 whereas air force and navy let you out when you get to e4) also a con to being single I hadn't thought about was dealing with your vehicle if you have to deploy, and remember in army you will be gone for a much longer time compared to other branches. Yes there is military storage for your vehicle, but your vehicle is NOT going to be maintained and started up for the year you are gone. So you have to have someone you can trust and give them power of attorney and raise your insurance payments to get them to have your vehicle while your gone. In my case, that meant having my parents make plans to come all the way up from my home state to my duty station to get my vehicle.This is something I'm not sure can still be done if I get sent to another duty station even farther away from my home state. Some other single people even wind up selling their vehicle. You really have to take this into consideration when you join and active duty, as well as what branch you want to join considering it is harder for a longer time for army than other branches.

Simple answer find someone that won't cheat, and if you feel the need to cheat dont do it communicate with the person you are with and see if you can work out whatever may be causing the thought of cheating or if you dont feel like there's a connection tell them. In most cases NO. Due to the current sex crimes, sexual harassment 📑, DA or post DEH offices may start cracking down on "over night guests" 🛏. Does it occur? In the 1990s? Yes. BUT in 2021, I would be careful. A girl might OD 😵 or have a medical issue too then you get in BIG UCMJ, ⚖ hassles.

My NCOs recommended I either hide my paintball marker or store it in the arms room and essentially never use it again.
Always answer the phone with “I’ve been drinking and I’m out of town preferably at the range limit” answer your barracks door with a beer in hand.

Just join Air Force. Better dorm and better food. Quality of life is better. A lot of single airmen can save 20k in cash before tsp & roth
the real pro there is that if you are enlisted and single you get to leave the barracks much earlier, as an E4 in the Air Force vs E6 in the Army

Cant join active duty as a single parent unless you give up custody. Other wise you can join the reserves or national guard.

don't you get hardship pay as well if you are in a training environment for more then 31 days (outside of basic training and AIT) even if you are single?

Not hard at all go to the courthouse pay your fee and you’re married in a couple hours.
It was easier being single on active duty . You just had to do your job and get things accomplished. There are plenty of single female soldiers to spend time with ,unless you have a gf off post or just to goof around with . Overall it is easier to be single on active duty. It can even be more fun as well.
I see all these men bashing women as cheaters when it goes both ways and not all women marry for the damn benefits I am marrying my fiance because of how I feel about him and we actually enjoy doings things together like working on a project vehicle learning how to fix a vehicle and going trail offroading. I am proud of my fiancé for joining the army and I support him and his goals.

I can't image having been single while on active duty. Life would be comparative shit.... living in a barracks, eating in a chow hall, living on post.... every single day, year after year. No thank you. The big problem for many though is marrying someone who is vastly too emotionally immature for the real stresses of military life, deployments, etc, and things fall apart. Whoever you marry needs to be mentally strong, and reasonably independent and self-reliant. They need to be comfortable living and run a household, alone, in a new town/State/country, for long periods of time. Hard to find in someone, particularly a female, less than 25-30 years old or so.

She opened a joint account in Columbus Georgia and bounced checks. I returned from overseas and heard about it.The bank was getting ready to contact the army. Bad checks was one reason for my being barred from re-enlistment. 12 years gone. She borrowed money from the Fort Benning Red Cross. They called the captain and I had to fork over. A dumb female 2nd Lieu Tenant in the Army Emergency Relief fund gave about $300. Forked over again. I had 9 years Time in Grade, but was kept from the promotion board. One Paragraph under Article 137 is Failure to pay just debts.Not paying could have caused a Federal Felony conviction, jugged for 90 days and a Dishonorable Discharge. Anyone jugged gets an automatic reduction in rank to Pay Grade E-1.Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice(UCMJ) every case is a Federal felony.

one pro to being single is that you don't have to worry about someone cheating on you or you cheating on them.
a con to being single is if you're enlisted you have to stay in the barracks and deal with all the drama regardless of how well you keep your bedroom spotless clean. One time we were woken up at 3:30 in the morning on a duty day to stand in a formation to watch a dude walk up and down the hallway back and forth for thirty minutes all because some staff sergeants wanted to humiliate him and involve us in it.
Join the army and you will deal with this for a much longer time as long as you stay single and enlisted (can't leave the barracks in the army until you reach e6 whereas air force and navy let you out when you get to e4)
also a con to being single I hadn't thought about was dealing with your vehicle if you have to deploy, and remember in army you will be gone for a much longer time compared to other branches. Yes there is military storage for your vehicle, but your vehicle is NOT going to be maintained and started up for the year you are gone. So you have to have someone you can trust and give them power of attorney and raise your insurance payments to get them to have your vehicle while your gone. In my case, that meant having my parents make plans to come all the way up from my home state to my duty station to get my vehicle.This is something I'm not sure can still be done if I get sent to another duty station even farther away from my home state. Some other single people even wind up selling their vehicle.
You really have to take this into consideration when you join and active duty, as well as what branch you want to join considering it is harder for a longer time for army than other branches.

I am a single guy I am quite I read my Bible and stay to myself you know but I do still like my Air forces and jeans and stuff, so do I ever get to go off base and go to stores. Simple answer find someone that won't cheat, and if you feel the need to cheat dont do it communicate with the person you are with and see if you can work out whatever may be causing the thought of cheating or if you dont feel like there's a connection tell them. All relationships needs are communication, faithfulness and loyalty.

Most if not all barracks have a cerfew for visitors. There are ways to have someone spend the night with you but it's not allowed.
