  • Just bought a replacement wiper switch and it doesn't match the original? Here's how to wire a single speed wiper motor in your antique Ford or Mercury. Often times your original single speed wiper switch is no longer made/available.
If you purchased the more readily available 7 prong switch for 1965 or 1966 Mustangs to use in your old Comet, Falcon, or Galaxie this video is for you! I show you how to wire the entire single speed wiper motor from scratch with color coded wiring to match the original. This applies to applications with or without the wiper motor.

Just a followup to say I received my mustang switch today and it has been wired into my 63 galaxie 500XL. I really took a deep dive to look at the switch and found that the primary difference between the 4 pin galaxie switch and the 5 (or 7) pin mustang switch is ford deviced to spearate the 2 poerlines to separate fot electrically connected pins. On the galaxie this is the yeplow with black stripe wire and the blue wire. The blue feeds the park circuit directly on motor while the yellow/blk gets the power from the circuit breaker upstream from switch.
When I first started looking at this I wondered why a more modern switch would not work and the answer to that is this switch is a dual pole switch, it has 2 contacts closed with the switch off (the ground circuit for parking the wipers) and 2 pins connected when switch is on (the power to wiper motor). Modern switches are typically single pole.\ (at least the aftermarket street rod type switches)
Just one more thank you as without your video, not sure I would have even considered a mustang part.
    Thanks Again,

Thanks. This was extremely helpful in wiring the switch in my 64 comet. Great vedeo!

Thanks, I have the exact same switch as your original on my 63 galaxie and you are right, they are unobtainable so I'll be ordering a mustang one and rewiring like you have here. I figure the more mustang stuff that goes on this galaxie will just make parts availability much better. I mean who doesn't make classic mustang stuff.

Also, this was the 2 speed switch for the mustang so you have 3 positions (off, low, high) right? So you just call that high position "future expansion" 🙂? I was going to just get a universal switch but they are different, they are single pole switches and don't offer a pole for switching ground so our park won't work correctly

Hey, thanks so much for this video. I live in Germany and have an original 64.5 Mustang with a single Speed Wiper. I am currently redoing the complete Haness with the AAW set. I've been dealing with this problem today for a few hours, and just gave up for the day. I think this video is exactly what I need. I'm going to give it a try and I'll let you konw if it all works out. Even if it doesnt, thanks anyway for an exellently explained video.!! You got fan #4 now!!!!

I really needed your video. I am also installing an American Autowire kit and I am stuck on the wiper part. I am trying to follow what you have done but I can still use my original plugs. I keep freezing your video on the original harness because I cut my wires off the harness without seeing how they were connected. I wish you could have laid the harness out and held the camera on it for a moment. But I think I can follow what needs to happen.

Howdy… any idea of why when I hooked it up exactly as you laid it out to the same type of switch I get nothing? Tested switch and wiper motor and both work. Thanks!

What full wiring harness did you go with? Just wondering whether to get a universal harness or a chassis specific harness for my '66 Mustang. Either way, it would be the newer GM style fuse block style like you have. It's pretty much a daily driver but the harness is rough. Thanks. Great channel.

Thank you. Ive used American Autowire both times ive rewired a vehicle. They had a specific harness for my Comet and Im 100% sure they have Mustang specific ones. Check out American Autowire and Id recommend vehicle specific. Good instructions, not hard to do, and what a relief.

I bought the switch from Falcon Enterprises I believe. It is a small online seller. Dang thing wasn’t cheap

I dont sorry. Heres what they told me and why I made the video “Look up on line for a 1965-66 Mustang. It is a Mustang switch, as no one reproduces the switch for the Falcon/Comet.”
