    Thanks for these videos. They've been a big help for my mental state with recovery still a ways away. I'm glad you're doing so much better. My surgery was two weeks ago and I'm getting the stitches off tomorrow, so hopefully everything looks good. Not looking forward to therapy, but these videos have helped me see that it's not going to be as nightmarish as I had thought, so thank you. Hope your ankle is doing well now! Cheers!

    definitely helpful with this video. I broke my ankle in June and had surgery June 29th. I'm about 2 months out from then now. i have been doing foot exercises and have a little mobility back. haven't started any PT yet though. I'm remaining optimistic too. I should be good by October. thanks a lot. God bless.

    Your'e doing great. Very inspirational. your progress videos are very helpful to me. You're obviously a good patient and doing all you are supposed to do. I am the same in that respect because I don't want to let this get the best of me. I'm at 4 weeks after the accident so I'm just in the beginning phases. Thank you for sharing your videos have answered several of my own questions.

      Hello Marlis - I'm glad the videos have been of some use. I was advised to do what the physio said, so I did, and I'm in no doubt it got me up and about as soon as was possible. I hope your recovery goes well too and you're up and around in double quick time.

    Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I admire your strength every step of the way. I look forward to your 1 year anniversary video in April 2019. By that time I will be over 8 weeks post surgery Jan 28 for ORIF trimalleolar fracture of the right ankle. Thank you for your tip regarding the compression bandage for the ankle, too. Cheers from Canada.

      Elka, the swelling took many months to finally go away and the compression bandage was a big help. I stopped using it about six months after my accident, but the swelling - although greatly reduced - continued for another couple of months.

    Glad to hear your doing well. I just broke my ankle in Feb of this year (2019) and just got the green light to start putting some weight on my left ankle. I start physio next week and back to work the week after.
    Yesterday was my first time after 5 1/2 weeks being outside and driving as well.
    Thank you for sharing your experience, keeps me hopeful that I will walk normally again. Best of luck to you and take good care.
    Best Regards from Toronto Canada

    Oh my gosh u r doing so well. I can't believe u walk 3 or 4 miles 4 mon post surgery wow. I'm 3 mon out. I did have soft cast for 8 wks and NWB for 8 wks also-Dr didn't want me putting weight until xrays were good. I know u were the same. I watched ur other videos
    I know I will never walk far due to RSD/ nerve dx in all my extremities ( had this b4 I fell. Reason why I fell) but I hope to do a little more every day. Thank u for ur videos. They gave me encouragement for sure. 😁

    You really have helped me! I am really scared. I am 6weeks since the injury, like yours. And, 5 since the surgery. I am only 2 days in the boot, no weight bearing yet. Physic will be slow the Doc said. My calf muscle tone is bad! No flexibility in my foot. Your sharing, especially about your dedication to your exercises, encourages me. Thank you, and also to your grandson who took the videos

      Miriam, I’m glad the videos have helped. It is slow going, but just keep doing the physio and you will make progress, and that will motivate you. You’ll be amazed in a couple of months just how far you’ve come on.
      We’re doing an anniversary video in April, so keep an eye out for that (there’s a good target for you to measure your progress!). I’ve passed your comment on to Jacob, my grandson and he says “Thanks” (actually he said “Cool” which I think is the same thing.).
      Keep going and you WILL get there!!!

    I had the same surgery as you on August 5 and last visit was last Thursday doctor said finally weight bearing start 80% with walker and the rest on foot increase slowly with weight as tolerated but didn't say to use the assisted device while increasing and he has me doing the pt at home. Weight as tolerated is confusing because he stated by my next appointment which will be November 3 I should be wearing a shoe

      Abdul, everyone is different, but my cast stayed in place until the breaks had healed and was removed after about 6-8 weeks. I saw the physio after that. My ankle still hurts, but not nearly as much as it did!

    Gosh 4 months after surgery I can barely hobble around more than 20 minutes at a time. My leg is purple, the ankle and foot are always swollen. I have 25% movement in the ankle according to the physio. Cannot balance on the injured leg, cannot do single leg calf raises on it. Cannot walk without a limp, cannot do much of anything. I had the same injury/surgery as you but your recovery went so much better.

    • @aalmangleye6502
      @aalmangleye6502  2 роки тому +1

      Hello Sandra. Sorry to hear about you injury. I hope things improve soon for you. As I think I’ve said elsewhere, the single best piece of advice I had was to keep doing the physio. It really is a nasty injury but I’m convinced that advice helped me. I’ve still got a dark patch under my skin on my shin and limp for a couple of steps after I’ve been sat for a few minutes but fortunately it frees up almost immediately, so I’ll take that! I remember my consultant said it would take 12-18 months for recovery, and he was right. The thing to keep in mind is that you will get there, it just takes time. Good luck with your recovery.

      @@aalmangleye6502 Thank you so much. Yes, I've noticed you did the complete physio routine 3x daily which is more than I have been told to do and I'm cranking it up as I don't want my ankle staying how it is. I've changed physio. The new one does a lot of ankle manipulation which is ... interesting 😬 but it definitely helps. I've started acupuncture with a traditional therapist educated in China and that is the single thing which is helping most as he finishes with an acupressure(?) massage which breaks up scar tissue and frees up my ankle.It never feels as good as it does after acupuncture do consider if that is an option for you. I now go to the hydrotherapy pool and walk for half an hour at a time. That's good too to practise rolling off your injured leg . The first time I came out and could barely move but now my body is used to the change from weightlessness to weight on the ankle. It is a lot more tough, slow, uncomfortable and frustrating than I imagined but hey, what is the other option? Just stay a cripple, right?We just have to get on with it I suppose. Honestly to anyone watching this: a little bit of stretching your foot towards you, away from you and in circkes is not going to fix it. Do your physio, do extra exercises, do a lot more than your physio told you and of course elevate your ankle, ice it to keep swelling down as too much swelling will slow up your recovery unfortunately.

    I have been watching your videos and they have been so helpful! I had same exact injuries and am 3 months along now. I walk unaided in regular shoes but still have a noticable limp. My question is at this time could you walk DOWN the stairs normal and also what about outside on hills or uneven ground?

    • @sailejad4375
      @sailejad4375 3 роки тому

      I am also nearly 3.5 months out of ankle orif surgery. I am a bit heavy and have a noticeable limp as well atleast after a few feet of walking, it is quite clear. I'm still sore after activity and have minor swelling with pain at times. I understand the stairs down thing completely and I guess it is normal. It has more to do with the stiffness at the front of your ankle and balance issues on the injured leg due to inactivity and muscle loss and will go away in a while. I am still only able to go down injured leg first but it noticeably better than when I started about 4 weeks ago. Also i am able to do a full flight up and down without too much pain and little soreness.
