I actually did appreciate how he gave another species personhood. I don’t know how much I agree that we’re all fucked, but I do know that the other animals on the earth have had to put up with what could only be described as a nightmare due to humankind.

However I do agree humans as a whole have damaged the earth and honestly each other. If you focus on those things I can see how you would start thinking everything is fucked. And it may be? I don't think that's true. Our genome was tampered with, and inexpertly, deep in the past. Where we are now isn't necessarily where we were naturally meant to be as a species at all.
What you are talking about is quiet quitting. You've recognized the catastrophe and chosen to accept it. That's actually pretty weak.

He’s full of 💩💩💩💩 just like these climate freaks. It’s a scam for power and greed. They have been pumping this 💩💩💩 for years. In the 80s they said hair spray was causing a hole in the ozone we were going to burn up. A couple of years ago nasa said that hole had closed up. So they just move to another scare tactic. Everybody dies so get right with GOD and enjoy your life.
I applaud this guy for getting a vasectomy at 22 and actively taking the responsibility of birth control instead of putting it on a women. I wanted my tubes tied at 26 and no one would do it because I didn't have children. Finally got it done when I was 33 and was so happy.

You typed your comment on either a desktop computer using electricity that may have come from a fossil fuel source, or on your cell phone which uses a lithium ion battery. The battery is bad in itself, but needs recharging by the aforementioned fossil fuel source. It was delivered to either the retail provider or your home via gas powered vehicle. We won’t touch your food sources as I won’t assume, but I’m willing to bet you’re not growing grains to consume yourself and feed to the chickens on your self sustaining farm? Look bud, this planet has survived asteroid impacts, earthquakes, mega volcanos, etc… it may be time to put on your big boy pants and develop an independent thought or two. Best wishes to you.

I love the people who think that human beings are The Problem, yet they don't kill themselves. Instead, they sit there playing the most human of games: pontificating, philosophizing, expressing bigoted views, wearing T-shirts with vulgar slogans, and (most importantly) listening to themselves talk.
This was eerily comforting. Every day we still have in this life is a privilege.

Everyone wants to name it and say oh here it is this is the problem, but it's the same as any other blanket statement about a group of people or about guns or about anything else controversial it's not that black and white. The ship has sailed with technology, we are all on it, you want to give up or work with the "shitty" hand you've been dealt? I'd prefer to do my best with whatever I've got.

I don’t want to be intentionally antagonistic here but that statement is so absurd. Of course technology is the answer to saving a cataclysmic destruction of our species or planet.
This isn’t a well contemplated theory.. technology from fire to writing, to metallurgy to steam engines, to the flow of information at the speed of light.. ever since man picked up a stick and started digging bugs out of a hole, technology developments have made our life and our futures better. More importantly it makes humanity more adaptable.. the advent of rockets and space tech can allow us to live outside of earth.. nanotechnology could allow food to be replicated from base elements like Star Trek food replicators, also make building things like a spaceship easy just programs the nanobots and wait for them to build it.. just imagine how adaptable humans would be with just those two things.. tech is humanity’s edge on this universe and our greatest strength..

It seems as if I've met many people like him in my travels as a truck driver. I usually let them ramble on until they lose steam and become bored of their own discussion without being rude. It's very difficult to be empathic and listen when being spoken "at" instead of to. Mark is an awesome presenter and keeps the conversation flowing organic. My personal hypothesis with "Doomers" is they are usually childless and likely came from an unstable parental foundation. But they aren't depressed, they find immense joy in the warm blanket of pessimism. As always SWU is an amazing study of the human condition. Thank you Mark!

Well said. Sadly one of my best friends has become somewhat of a doomer, along with his wife. Five years ago we'd talk about sports, fishing, the weather, etc. Now he mostly talks about the upcoming collapse of human civilization.

I don't understand your point of 'speaking "at" vs. "to"'. As a lawyer in the fields of civil rights and environmental law he’s pretty spot on, seeing The willful corporate or government, military involvement of dumping chemicals causing neurological disorders, cancers, respiratory diseases; things I consider and have argued in court are a form of premeditated murk are hand waved away by judges yet The court sees fit to seal the documents.

@@TheRealEMH I would say at least a plurality of ecologists I‘ve spoken with hold the same point of view as this guy, that being said I was raised in a Marxist household as such I believe that humans apply what they are taught.
Most of the institutions I have gone up against operate out of the interests of those structures as the ppl see em as an extension of themselves, many of em knowing full well that what they’re doing will have negative outcomes in the long run but simply continue on auto pilot; Most cases gov institutions With the exception of the military more often relent or settle as elected officials are more susceptible to the pressures that can be brought upon em by the public.
The unaccountable however, corporations, the military or a mixture of both “industrial complexes“ have the ability to more easily obstruct and use the “material weight and connections” of their institutions to fight indefinitely, this corporatism I see as a large contributing factor; our society Pushes the narrative of individualism but a collective response is truly the only way this obstruction can be stopped as these institutions can use their wealth to bribe politicians, judges or individual ppl as they see fit, in my humble opinion🤷♂️

Its almost counterintuitive, you would think these “doomers” would be living life on the edge, living every day as it were their last, taking advantage of all life’s wonderful opportunities. I'm just saying that mankind thinks the ultimate is in sensual pleasures, in pursuit of satisfying lust+greed, in satisfying all his desires from things of the earth, material goods, bodies, etc. But it's going to destroy the world and leave him with an empty bag in the end. I say that before all is said and done, mankind will be the only creature on earth walking on all fours. And it's fiat currency that is putting the pedal to the metal. That is the major force behind endless environmental plunder to provide for endless taxpayers to pay upon endlessly increasing unpayable national debts.
Humans exclude humans from nature. We are kind of a plague, or cancer. Like a mutation that's killing the host. We're part of nature, but we're not in harmony with it, we're aberrant. We mistake that for being special.
You have to be careful with nihilism like this. He references Overshoot and I read this book when I was 21 (now 37). It’s analysis of the human species and it’s impact on ecosystems across the globe is haunting and will definitely remove the rosy colored glasses of endless human growth and development if you have them on.
Free reversible vasectomies (Risug or Vasalgel) would go a long way to reversing population growth as reproduction would be opt-in rather than opt-out.

I dont think he has mitigating activities. It's kind of the basis of everything he said about his beliefs. The earth will change in a way that humans and some other species will no longer or in very limited numbers continue to exist. He isn't preventing anything because he sees it as futile

I imagine he would say that the world is doomed and unless we can change what it means to be human that any steps that an individual takes to avoid destruction would be futile. There needs to be so much change that anything one person can do will not change the outcome.

Also, Miguel de Cervantes wasn’t born until the mid 1500’s, and didn’t come into prominence until the beginning of 1600. Assuming he spoke out of error, I’m nearly done reading Don Quijote (in Castellano) and cannot recall a single reference to overpopulation 🤷🏿♂️
Oops... thank you for correcting me on that slip-up. I am pretty sure the population of the planet even in 1605 was less than the Georgia Guidestone-recommended 500 million, so why would Cervantes have mentioned it? Please point out anywhere in this video that I claimed Cervantes mentions overpopulation. He certainly brushes up against it in the famous "roasting acorns with the goatherds" soliloquy, probably the single best Doomer epistle ever written.
I would have to absolutely disagree with you on that end, as it’s more of an allegory to simpler times and potentially an ode to socialist ideology, which would make sense during an undeveloped era.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but is not there entire premise of your doomsday ideology that we (as the human race) are at tipping point right now? Is that not the correlation you’ve made between Cervantes and doomers?
@@edurado1996 You are on the right track. Cervantes saw the "tipping point" before the term was invented. Everything he warned us about is playing out now, right down to the wind turbines. And, of course, anybody pointing out that the human race is on the wrong track will be called an idiot and a fool, as these comments prove. I wear my Fool Card proudly.

Yep. I have been listening to Sam for about 10 years. He's a very real, funny and smart person. He isn't into the political garbage at all; rather he's a philosopher (and a chronicler) and I know what he's saying is true at a profound level; thought I believe in God's account in Revelation. I too, decided to never have children at the early age of 16 years old. I'm currently 61 years old and childless. I married at 25 years old, and this was an item of discussion during the dating years. Most people on this Earth don't live their lives as factual, but rather, they live their lives on hope.

I was briefly sucked into this back in my late teens (an Influential college professor I had) and what I came to understand about these people is they are pathological pessimists who will take any data point as validation.

This guy has a youtube channel I am pretty sure and he does these videos where he talks from his porch. His perspective is definitely deserving to be heard and considered. Many of his points are quite interesting even though it might not put you in the greatest of moods. He is definitely honest, sincere, and doing his best to be real.

I saw Doomsday in the title and my pre thoughts were "What is this crazy person gonna say?" As I watched it became "What? I share all of these perceptions and had these discussions with friends who agree". I feel like there are a lot of us out there, far more than he thinks.
