Different countries have different ideas about personal space and boundaries. In America, it's very similar to Germany in that regard. Don't get too close or touchy when introducing yourself there, but in some countries they all kiss everyone's cheek and give hugs. In a lot of Asian countries, they don't have much of a personal space bubble, but they don't touch, even with a handshake.

Still doesn't account to the fact that Hitler staged a Polish attack to declare war upon them and used a lot of SS divisions in civil to make it seem like Danzig were awaiting the German troops. Germany invaded Poland because of Hitler's Lebensraum policy. If he just wanted to protect the German people in the lost areas of WW1 he had just demanded it like Czechoslovakia. It was an invasion, not a weird defense of Germans.
Btw: It was the plan that the other nations declared war on Germany. Hitler wasn't stupid. You know anything about his foreign policy? The demand of Czechoslovakia? The war speech over and over again back home? The Hitler-Stalin pact? The arming of the military for war? The economy that relied so much on debt that he had to fight a war? The breach of the treaty of Versailles? (Although the treaty of Versailles wasn't that smart of the allies to begin with.) The declaration of war against Russia without any need? The declaration of war against the U.S. without any need? And finally the declaration of war against Poland AFTER the troops were already fighting?

    • @areuswhite9670

Germans didn't "invade" Poland. They tried to take the land back from Poland they lost in the first world war. Same with in France! Germany was protecting the German people that were being brutalized. If you gave Germans the land back like they asked, there would have been no war. Filthy propaganda!

Because after WW2 US soldiers were stationed mostly in Bavaria while French, British and Russians were stationed in the other parts. So most of the soldiers returning know only the Bavarian/Southern culture of Germany. Then it just spiraled out of control and let's be honest, Bavarian food is the best, so no wonder that is what we make in restaurants in the US.

Ideas about time seems very different across countries. When I studied abroad with many different European nationalities, and we had dinners together with lots of people there always seemed to be this fixed tiering when people would show up. First the Swiss, then the Germans, Dutch, Scandinavians, English, French, Italians. Then dead last way after everybody else the Greeks. But I think a lot of this comes down to concepts about what it means when you say the dinner, party or whatever starts at this time. I think in Southern Europe it means something more like, don't come BEFORE that time, because I might be busy tidying, showering or whatever. With Northern Europe it means more like everything is done and the food will get cold if you show up later than that.

The original comment is kinda old, but I only just saw this and felt I had something interesting to say, so here goes anyway:
5 years ago, I went to Oxford for a language course (I'm German btw). I made friends with an Iranian girl and an Argentinian girl. We decided to meet up one day. I arrived 10 minutes before the appointed time, because I thought it would be impolite to take the next bus that would've arrived right on time. It might have been late and then I would have made everyone wait for me. So I thought. When I arrived, nobody was there - obviously. It was 10 minutes early, after all. So I sat down on a bench and waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. And then I waited some more. The Iranian girl arrived 20 minutes after the time we'd agreed on (half an hour after I got there). The Argentinian girl arrived a full 45 minutes later than we'd said!! When I'd been waiting for almost a full hour! I wasn't angry. I was fascinated and highly amused. The Iranian girl was very much embarrassed that I'd waited so long and was more punctual later on. The Argentinian girl was sorry that we'd waited so long and promised to be on time in future, which she wasn't. We always had to wait for at least 15 minutes.

From experience, Germans are generally very well educated in international Politics and Geography. There isn't a German alive who doesn't know that The Vatican City is a nation state, it's nothing special, to state as fact would be to come off demeaning, condescending and arrogant. Better is to ask their opinions on issues and engage them.

For me, either the 'facts' are straight up common sense or just a stereotype.
    1. No woman likes to be overly touched when you are just meeting her for the first time.
    2. Treating women as equal isn't realy a thing only german woman would like ??!!
    3. No woman EVER makes plans like that. Absolut stereotype :D
    4. Making anyone wait for more than 15 to 20 minutes is kind of rude.
    5. Politics are the biggest turn OFF on a date, trust me. Only maybe if you are in a large group and you can paticipate in a discussion about politics it could impress a woman.
    6. German woman might be more direct, but not in that kind of way.
    7. If a girl tries to undress you in public, she might be super horny or super drunk. But i don't think that this has anything to do with nationality.

    • @jurisprudens

Not really. Some nations are less concerned about personal space; and in many countries ladies love the men who take decisions for both.

Most of Eastern Europe is quite different, they generally love a man that “takes care of things”, and then it’s a fairly mixed bag in North America. I find all my german friends much more...assertive in their independence. While in Canada, france, Spain (the three countries I’ve lived in) I find women do like the idea of independence but also really like a guy to take charge sometimes.

Just a side note to all people looking to date German women: If you're approaching a German woman at a bar/pub, don't get too flirty too soon, that will likely intimidate her. A guy calling her "hot" or "sexy" to her face is probably going to make her feel uncomfortable.
And don't assume she likes beer just because she is German.

@@3azzamyIt is not true in general. "Southlanders" are a hot category of man for many German women. But Germans have a very distanced and subdued style of communication and behaviour, while Arabs tend to be very loud and expressive and just plain standing too fucking close to you, so they are often too much and too imposing for German women. Just try to be unusually calm and reserved (for an Arab) and you'll probably still be a refreshing change of social pace for her, while not being annoying.

I had a German girlfriend and I can tell they aren't like this at all. They sure have a plan for everything but in a relationship they just do what ever comes in natural. And they won't hide if they like or dislike someone. you can't impress them. If you fit in their plan you have a serious chance, if not just forget it. They love to laugh so all you need is a good sense of humour. For a long time/serious relationship you have to have plans about your future too. They are kinda emotionless in general (cold) even if there's no doubt they love you. They are honest and absolutely reliable. Kinda straightforward. • @m.l.burwell6464
      @m.l.burwell6464 8 років тому +5

Well one reason it probably didn’t strike you as uncomfortably accurate is because you’re likely not dating German women. We often see things from different perspectives, especially in the wilderness of dating.
Besides, making specific plans, being attracted to conversations of substance, avoiding physical contact in the very early stages, being on time, being direct and straightforward, being clear when she likes you -- these “stereotypes” weren’t so negative or “deal-breakers” that one has to get all worked up about. Not to mention, enough German women chimed in conceding that they too have some of these qualities.
Within stereotypes are usually some truths which are exaggerated. As an American living in Germany (nope, not in the military), I get bombarded with American stereotypes…and sometimes, it’s still funny because I actually know how silly and uninformed the comments can be. And I get the double bonus for being a ‘black’ American so I get to hear some real wonderful stereotypes in this area. And yes, at times this can be irritating and tiring so I can definitely understand if some are a bit sensitive.
In the end, for these types of videos we ‘should’ be intelligent enough to realize that it is not necessary to have a disclaimer citing that the video is not portraying 'ALL' Italians, Germans, Greeks, etc. We get a quick laugh, putting it in its proper perspective and move on with our lives. Again, good job to the creators of the video series! (Sorry for the book!)

    • @zoedumichen1408
      @zoedumichen1408 8 років тому +1

haha wow. Of course your right. I for myself just really hate stereotypes and prejudice. Of course there are right facts and I really liked the video but I just want to see every human as their own individual. Not all german women are the same. Of course that can't be shown in a video but it still always kinda bothers me.
Coming to your comment about me not dating german women... well who knows. But still I can see my friends with their boyfriends and girlfriends and I also see what we are like when we go out so I can't really agree to most of the points. Actually most of the people are super shy and won't say out what they think but still they wouldn't go as war as to say 'no hands please' when meeting someone new. And I for my part hate politics and there are enough german women I know who absolutely agree with me.
I could go on and on about this. Well maybe I'm just too young to really understand it but yeah I just hate stereotypes and being put under the same hat (dunno if you can say that in english xD) but thanks for your answer! I didn't want to insult anyone (just saying)
And of course to the creators of the video:
Good job. Even as a german girl that doesn't agree with everything that was said I enjoyed watching it :)

I am Czech-man, I need to admit, that German woman are very similar to Czech women. Our nations are really close each other. I would say, Czech women are maybe a little more warmer and approachable then germans, but it could be only my false impression, because my english isn't so perfect (und mit meine deutsche es ist noch schlechter), so as foreigner I am unfortunately shyer than native speaker and german women can sence of my lower self-consciousness.
In every case, the German people are always likeable to me. And my heart desires for German women. They are noble, inteligent, self-confident, honest and devoted. I really love their personality.

      I agree! Well made.
But I must say, I know a German "male" (he is a strange guy, an exception, he had never had a girlfriend at 43) who does a lot of these things wrong. E.g. trying to make decisions for me - infuriating. On the other hand, your video may explain why he thinks it is interesting to talk about politics (his latest letter to Merkel), he even read me "love letters" to girls he was previously interested in, in which the total content concerned the Israel-Palestine conflict. He wondered why she never replied. (And she was a German girl!)
Germans are very direct. They are also overpunctual. (Being on time= late).
Because of this frankness, they often misunderstand irony or sarcasm. They tend to take things literally. This is a trait that makes them different from Austrians, who tend to beat about the bush, imply things vaguely, or make ironic jokes (that Germans don't get.)
How about a dating video for Austrians? I'm sure that would help both Austrian men and women (to get to know each other!)

Funny I am Norwegian, but I can see a lot of similarities. I've lived in the Netherlands as well and there seems to be a lot of commonality among various germanic people like the dutch, germans and Scandinavians.
The dead honesty, directness, desire for some personal distance, love of discussing politics, society etc is very familiar. I notice this especially with Americans around. They are not used to discussing politics, religion etc and tense up very noticeably. We also frequently insult Americans by accident because they mistook directness and dead honesty for a willful attempt at belittling or insulting them. Of course on the contrary Americans could insult us when they try to be friendly and avoid being offensive by saying something nice they obviously don't believe or think. American's it seems will appreciate this even when they know it isn't completely true while I think Germanic people might easily be offended by what they deem as superficial and dishonest.
But yeah taking charge and being overly assertive isn't something Norwegian women will like too much either. They like to be seen as equals.
A difference with Germans though is I think Germans are probably more punctual and detail oriented than most other Germanic people excluding the Swiss. I've lived with Germans before and they are very easy to share apartment with because they seldom cause trouble. They keep stuff very tidy and orderly. In general Germans seems very well behaved. But compared to what I am used to Germans might seem a bit stern. I'd like to think Norwegians are a little bit more jolly and outgoing. But then again we are also a bit more mess and less well organized. Germans also seem very into hierarchy and titles, which Scandinavians and especially Norwegians have little respect for.

Advise to any non-germans visiting Germany: 1) Don't commit to anything you can't 10000% fulfill. You will be socially crucified for all your failures. 2) Don't be late to an appointment or a date or meeting. And when the appointment is 19:37 we mean 19:37 and not 35 or 40! Don't be late. That's how you make enemies in this country - not friends. 3) Don't make any noise on Sundays unless you want your neighbors to either call the police or secretly vandalise your property to send you a message. Sunday is a Ruhetag = Silence Day!

There are many girls as described in the video but some german girls a more romantic and open minded, while being unpunctual, lying and disrespectful etc. will always be an issue (while some would make it a challenge for themselves to fix you..). Many years argo i met a german girl in a Rimini Discoteque .. i was paralyzed by her beauty, we locked eyes, we danced closer and closer. I never had the balls to declare myself, so we kept dancing and just flirting at distance. GOd if i wished to kiss her , how i wished to spawn her beautiful short blonde hair among my fingers, I recall the name of the disco was Carnaby St. and we were on guided tour with our school and they were with their school as well . My teachers smiled from the stands right above the dance floor. And it seemed that everyone noticed us flirting. Too soon later it was over. They stopped the music and let us out. I remember just going to her with my staggering english and writing my telephone mumber on a '' mille lire'' bank note. I never heard or saw her again. That teutonic , marvellous Angel.

I dated a fräulien a few years back and this was very similar to how she was with me. She was extremely structured and organized that it made me feel like a complete slob next to her. I also noticed many German women are very knowledgeable about Europe, but not so much other parts of the world. My family is from Thailand and she really knew very little about Asia and that just seemed to be the case with the other German ladies I’ve met. Anyway, I think they’re great and hope to have more experiences with them.
