    Good video with excellent demonstration of getting at the hidden battery, apart from note below on disconnecting negative first.

  • @andrewhudson5826

    Always disconnect the negative first and then the positive when removing the battery. Then when connecting the battery you connect the positive first and then the negative.

      Well said! I was just about to say this as well. If you put your spanner on the positive terminal and accidently touch the metal work, whist the negative is still connected to the metal work, a dangerous current flows which can be enough to melt parts of the spanner and cause an electric spark that can be equivalent to a small explosion. By disconnecting the negative first you avoid this hazard.

    My 2014 Yaris Hybrid also has a gas vent-tube attached to the 12v battery... Thank you for another excellent video BTW!

    Thanks so much. You really helped me. I could not figure out how to remove the cover under the seat to access the battery to jump start my Yaris hybrid. Thanks again.

      If you are jump starting there is a terminal under the hood, its much easier.

    1:38 You can easily remove them by pressing the middle part of the clip inwards with your finger, it will pop out the outer part and then you can remove it. Just something I discovered today.

    I will not be using my Yaris hybrid for a few weeks. Is there a way of disconnecting the 12V battery from under the hood rather than what you show in the video?

    • @bobbarley6578

      Just switch the car on and leave it in park mode for an hour or two per day. The 12v battery will be charged and won't go down.

    Congrats, great video!
    I have only one question: Don't you have to disconnect the white cable in the fuse box before you change the battery?

    • @hippopotamus86
      @hippopotamus86 3 місяці тому

      In case anyone else has this issue, the car wont start if the voltage isn't high enough. Use a jump pack directly on the battery under the seat. Don't short anything out.

    Why don't you remove Negarive born first and afterwards the positive ?

    • @hippopotamus86
      @hippopotamus86 3 місяці тому

      If you're likely to touch metal, then do negative first, in this case, it really didn't matter.

    My battery was replaced yesterday. How much force is required to remove the seat? The service guy pulled up the seat at probably the wrong spot, and now the seat seems to be broken internally. 😞

    • @hippopotamus86

      Needs quite a bit of force. Just struggled with mine.

    If my Toyoyta hybrid car does not start and its showing the battery sign (battery is more than 10 years old) , Is it enough to replace this 12v battery? Or do I need to the replace the hybrid battery itself also?

    • @dcweather7130
      @dcweather7130 Рік тому +1

      No just the 12v battery. Just done mine. Cost £142.95 for the battery if your car is not driveable. If it is then only £149 for Toyota to do it. Just follow the video. The only thing I found difficult was pulling up the seat (went back easily) and of course the clips broke when removing the trim which was also tricky to get back. But only took about 30 mins and fired straight up.

    Always on battery car first disconect negative becaus so you eliminate the probability that + touch the chasis car

    • @doit_vehicles
      @doit_vehicles  3 роки тому

      true ... , but once the + is off the battery it doesn't really matter if it touches the chassis, right ? 🤔

    • @MihaSun
      @MihaSun 3 роки тому +1

      @@doit_vehiclesYes, it is true, but the probability of risk is when you detach(the moment of work ) the + from battery, and there is the possibility (risk) that you can touch "without wanting" a body part.
      If minus are disconected fron body car this risk are 0
      I do it once with my mirror worktool ,ijust touch + and intercooler tube and my tools is almost meting

    1. Isn't there a little hose for guiding the hydrogen out of the cabin?
    2. If you had disconnected "-" first you wouldn't need to worry about touching the metal frame.
    3. Toyota considered you doing it in the wrong order and placed a white plastic cover over the frame. 🤭
    4. I disagree on your testing method: when there is written "CCA 272A" (left) you test for CCA 270 or 275. If there is written "DIN" or "EN" you test for DIN or EN.
    5. How much longer than the original 197 mm could a battery be? Does a battery that is 40 or 41 mm longer fit in there? 🤔

    • @doit_vehicles
      @doit_vehicles  2 роки тому

      the large battery needs around 300 v

    • @joehatton9790
      @joehatton9790 2 роки тому +1

      The large hybrid gets charged when using the vehicle or when you leave the car in READY mode. You don’t need to do anything to the big hybrid battery. Though you do need to look after the smaller 12v battery, especially in cold weather if you not using the car often. In which case put the car in READY mode for 45-60 minutes twice per week.
