That subtle "Silent Night" at 3:37 is a nice little nod to how Tom would bookend Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis with that song
That live version of Christmas card… with silent night is my favorite version because of the juxtaposition of the two songs, but the video pisses me off cause the audience is laughing at the song like it’s funny. Nothing funny about that damn song, not a damn thing.

@@sebastianchristmas5915 Better? No. Respectable? Yes. Her voice is nice and soft, but sounds like many female singers. Similar to Maria Mena or Leslie Feist, but Waits' voice is one of a kind. Her voice on the other hand is more mass compatible, so no wonder you like it.

The hope and the hopelessness are so close beneath the skin on this recording. What a connection by everyone involved. My heart soars and breaks simultaneously. Just some of the best music ever created.
I think the beautiful thing about covering artists like tom waits who dont necessarily have the most accessible vocal style is that covering them makes them accessible. You have someone listen to tom waits cold turkey more than likely his vocals are going to distract them from his lyrics. But by having a cover like this you have an accessible voice that allows them to focus on the lyrics and then they go "oh my god these lyrics are god tier! I need to check out tom waits!" So now they're paying attention to tom's lyrics instead of getting distracted by his voice.
I love Phoebe Bridgers' music, I love the whole way she expresses herself musically. i listen to your music all day and your music gives me so much more ... thank you ... thank you very much for your music ... and please don't stop

Growing up with Tom, I cried listening to this, same as I have listening to endless songs of him. I love this, and I love listening to you Phoebe.
Two years ago our daughter was born and the Come On Up To The House: Women Sing Waits album came out. I remember rocking my girl to sleep while Phoebe sang "Georgia Lee." Now she comes out with this gorgeous version of this song less than 2 months from when our son is due. It feels like serendipity.

your music is so beautiful, it captures the repetitive and melancholy feel life often has, even though it honestly used to make me feel very unmotivated and depressed, but i kinda found a new view in it. When i was at a low, it caused me to go back to my Faith. I was raised Christian but i never rlly knew what it meant, and over time i just grew distant, but as tough seasons in my life have caused me to draw near to Jesus, i think i’ve finally started to understand my Faith as more than just a Sunday thing, a habit and routine, but i’ve come to see that it was never about religion, but relationship, in my relationship with Jesus, i’ve felt restored, grateful and loved, It was the fact that He loved and died for us, that caused me to see the world differently, through His eyes. Now as i look at the world around me i feel gratitude for the things that would often go unnoticed to me, all the beauty out there in nature, the beautiful moments of love between humanity, the community and bond over all creation, I see God’s hand in everything, and it’s made life so much more colorful for me.
