    I don't really get this video Ryan, it's kind of not your usual style of video or your usual attitude. I race Tekno 1/8 stuff, but products like this have a place - that place is not really at the track however. I bought my kids the smaller version of this, the 144001 and they have immense enjoyment from running around the park and on the street. Sometimes after a club day, they will jump on the track with them too. We should be encouraging anyone with any brand, to continue to grow our hobby, rather than the elitist attitude that comes through in this video.

    No hate from me... like you, I view most cars through the lens of a racer. But since I started my channel, every year around Christmas time I get lots of questions from kids who's parents won't spend more than $100-$150. These kids don't have transportation to a track or a budget for a real race car kit and everything that goes into making one race ready. They just want to get their foot in the door. For under $150, they have a drivable 1/10 scale package including a battery and charger. The extra money needed to get something better is simply unattainable for some people.
    The 104001 is bad... the worst part is the poor assembly, not to mention the 3.11oz flywheel and the plastic tires. To people interested in this car, I recommend tearing down the car and doing a rebuild before even running it once. It's a great exercise for the total newbie to learn the guts of an RC car and get comfortable working on one. It does have it's positive points like adjustable linkages all around. Most cars in that price range don't have adjustable camber and toe.
    BTW, your friend was incorrect about the price of the Associated RTRs... both the buggy and SCT are $400 with a battery and charger and are only 2wd.

    • @beachinrc101
      @beachinrc101 3 роки тому +1

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott 3 роки тому +2

      @@beachinrc101 Hi, I didn't make the comparison... around the middle of the video, Ryan's friend mentions that for a little more money "about $300", you can get a descent RTR from a manufacturer like Associated. He was wrong about the price. I anso think he may have thought that the RTR's he mentioned were 4wd, which they are not. I've done multiple videos on the 104001 and though it has problems, I believe that if it's all you can afford, it's a lot of buggy for the money. For the beginner on a budget, it's a decent place to start and a great way to learn how RC cars work.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott 3 роки тому +1

      @Daft Donkeys That car doesn't include a transmitter or a lipo or a charger. The 104001 runs right out of the box without having to buy anything else. There are a lot of people that can only afford the $100-$150...
      Also the tt-02b is 100% fixed geometry, no turnbuckles. You'll never learn a thing about setting up a car with that buggy.
      In my videos, I recommend doing a complete tear down and rebuild before even running the car once. This is because the car comes poorly assembled with leaking shocks and dry diffs. Look, I understand that the car is a low quality clone made from cheap materials, but you can't get more car for the same amount of money.
      Everyone who suggests something else always neglects to mention that their suggested vehicle costs twice as much to make it a running car. By the time you buy a cheap radio, a lipo and a charger, you've spent an additional +$100... are you going to tell some 13 year old kid to buy a car and then wait another year till the next Christmas to drive his car?

    You will always get people show up with these things , perhaps pointing out the flaws by using a less hateful tone and showing how to tune out some of the crappy traits may have been more helpful?

IMO these are designed for kids and backyard bashers and non competitive racers and countries that cannot get or afford top tier brands. Treat it like a $140 kit . . . . expecting it to match a $1K race rig is ridiculous . . . .
    Rebuilding shocks and diffs with proper fluids, making sure nothing is binding,
    add race-spec motor/esc/servo and Sanwa radio. Finally, proper tires for the surface.
    Yes, it still doesn't address build/parts quality, local parts availability, and race setup support.
    For the record I think a used "name brand" last generation racer is probably money better spent,

    Products need to be reviewed with the way they are marketed. If a product claims that it is the best RC off-road race car out there then you need to evaluate it as such. This product doesn't really make that claim. It is clearly an entry level RC-car that costs a fraction of what most people at the race track use. It is kind of ridiculous to take it to a race track and point out how it isn't anywhere near as good. A better review would be to hand it to a kid who never used an RC car before and see if he can get it around the track after a few days.

    I'm glad I watched the entire video because I thought the title and initial content in the video were pretty mean-spirited and not what I expect from Ryan. Some people can't afford racing kits or even decent RTRs. Those cheapo WL Toys are fairly popular entry level bashers though, and they introduce a lot of people to the hobby when they don't have enough money to get a better car or simply don't want to drop $300-$1000 on a hobby they don't know if they'll like.
    I think the question in the end of "is it worth it?" is when we started to get away from plain bashing the WL Toys and into constructive advise. It is important that you have support from your local hobby shop and it's important to take durability into account when choosing an RC. Simply saying "get this more expensive option instead of this" isn't very constructive.
    Ryan, I'm a huge fan of your content and I think you've done WAY more to support the hobby versus the damage this one video could do, but I felt like I needed to share my take on this one.

    The car looks really well balanced actually. If you put track suitable tyres on, rebuild the diffs and shocks you'd shave a good chuck of a second off that time, mainly in tyres. I'm betting if you'd put your Losi down kit set up, wrong tyres you'd do similar times so it's really not comparable at all. This could of made a great series aimed at new comers with making small gradual changes to your car and seeing how it could improve lap times. You could of started with oils, tyres, small set ups. Then upgrades to the electrics one by one. The durability thing is just rubbish, you guys clearly gave the car some hammer and ball cups pop off. Mine did last week on my AE 2wd and it's pretty new. These things happen. How can you write off the whole car due to ONE ball cup. We need fresh people into the hobby otherwise it will die. I get it. You and your high-level racing buddies set out to make a video where you beat up on the cheap RC, and have some laughs. It’s the same thing I did in college when the cycling club I belonged to had a “Huffy toss” and we beat up on a Wal Mart Huffy, and scoffed at how crappy it was compared to our bike shop bikes. But a Huffy is not an Cervelo, and a Wltoys RC is not a TLR, and I think you know that. I can appreciate your opinion to spend a little more up front, and I support that. (I always steer people away from Wal-mart bikes). Sometimes more expensive things just work better, and that’s just how it is.
    But this video wasn’t the way to tell people that. There are 100’s of other UA-cam channels out there with strong, one sided, opinions about RC’s. If I wanted narrow-viewed opinions for shock value, I’d subscribe to one of those. But I subscribe to your channel because you’re always fair, smart and articulate. There is not a single car out there, that doesn't come from China. I know.. I'm the manufacturer for this space. A cheap knock off that compares to your regular vehicle... is the worst car ever? Seeing your response to these comments on, don't support their platform, do better. Not everyone has that money man. Sometimes you go out work a 80hour week just to make ends meet, but you want to get something for your kid, because they deserve it, 150$ is your max budget after saving for 3-4 paychecks. I just think you're being harsh here on a very entry level toy.
    I do agree, this car isn't great and shouldn't be used to con people into buying it for a budget racer, but it'll get more people into the hobby, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters. People have fun, and there's more fresh blood joining. You don't want to pay wall people from joining in on the action, unless you want everyone to lose their sponsors and the hobby to die. 100% fact, if the demand drops, we the manufacturers will leave this hobby in the dust, because we have employees we need to take care of.

    I don't own this car, never will, and have always had something from AE/TLR/XRay. I agree that if someone is serious about the hobby, it is a waste of money.
    However, your comments below and the content of the video do not foster any growth in the hobby. For most people, the biggest barrier of entry for our hobby is the cost. Even used, a discontinued (bad parts support) B64/22-4/XB4 can cost over 2X the amount of money without a transmitter, receiver, batteries, and charger! The Pro4 is $310 without battery and charger. Even if you scored something RTR for $200, that $70 difference is HUGE to many people. This may be $130 wasted in the long run, but if 10% of the people who buy this get serious about racing, the hobby would grow so much more!
    Playing off one of your comments below: "If someone brought this to the track the first thing I would do is get my personal radio in their hands so they can drive something current and supported by the people they are racing with." They would never be at the track if they didn't have something affordable to race in the first place.
    I love your content and will continue to support you. I just feel that the video could have been used to show the downsides of this low bar of entry, rather than say it shouldn't exist at all. While you did say something close to this towards the end of the video, the rest was filled with content that reestablishes that high bar of entry.

The spares are available from the same site you buy the car from with no issues. Can you find the spares at your local hobby shop? No. I don't have some big hard on for this brand but I can say this car is absolutely not the "worst" RC race car. Ryan's tone sucked balls in this video and that is a fact, the comments speak for themselves. Typically he has an upbeat and positive attitude even if its on a sub par product. Ryan showcased this in his transmitter video with the DX5C unit. You can't put a $140 RC car with carpet tires, a brushed motor etc. on a clay track against a $1000 hobby grade RC and call it the worst RC car... especially when its only (one second) slower. Well you can but people will say bullshit, and in fact they have in these very comments.

    Alright, I will say that the video comes off as elitist. But he does have a bit of a point. I did the same thing with my 2wd Slash for years. A few minor upgrades from caps to springs and tires. Hell, I even modified the chassis to make it mid-motor as I had the tools to do so. But it got me into more serious racing. So I don't think this car would be the worst choice for a "basher/racer." A lot of people are commenting along the lines of "but if you just get quality servo, tires, shocks, tie rods etc" in defense of this car as a racing option. Surely if you're going to spend money on getting some race quality parts you'd be better off buying a second hand car that someone has raced for a season or so, with quality parts as stock... even if it's not the latest model you're likely to get something better than the wltoys car, have more luck sourcing spare parts when something breaks, be able to leverage other racer's previous experience with the car to help with tuning/setup and be much more enjoyable/easy to work on. RC racing is not a cheap hobby if you're running a fully blinged out setup, but if you're not keen or able to spend up large there are better options than buying a toy grade car and trying to make it race ready.

    I have to mirror alot of the earlier comments. I think it was highly unfair to compare your kit TLR with a RTR straight out the box. There are plenty of upgrades for the Wltoys 104001 that could be used to improve the car. At the very least you could have fitted the correct tires for the track as that would of been better comparison. Also the wltoys is not a competition car by any stretch of the imagination but it much better than a lot of other cheap rc cars out there. With that said it is a nice entry level car for someone starting off in rc. I know your friend said for an extra 80 to 100 bucks and you could go get a AE car. For that amount you could also get a new esc motor and probably servo upgrade for the Wltoys model. And as far as obtaining parts you have to look no further than amazon or Ebay or a site like Banggoods to get options parts. This was very much a apples and oranges test what you did.

    Lots of hate on this one, geez! Listen guys, I tested this as a racer with 0 incentive. The moment you put any money in this car is funds that should have been put into something that is current and can be supported by a local racer or hobby shop. The amount of times I have personally seen someone walk into a hobbyshop with something like this looking for a replacement part only to walk out discouraged is sadly very frequent. If you want to bash around with a 4wdish looking buggy, have at it. I truly hope you have fun! If you are trying to race, you will only be lined up for disappointment and possibly never give the racing side a fair shot. Our hobby is small and needs to be protected from companies looking to make a cheap buck in my opinion. I'm shaking my head at all these comments about how changing a bunch of parts on this inexpensive Chinese RTR will make it perform as good - or better - than a competition-grade RC car.
    This 104001 is nothing more than a lengthened version of the company's 1/12th scale 124019 4WD buggy, which in turn is a lengthened version of their 1/14th scale 144001 4WD buggy, which in and of itself is nothing more than a blatant knockoff of an LC Racing (another inexpensive Chinese RTR brand) 1/14th scale 4WD buggy. NONE of these cars were ever developed with true competitive racing in mind. They are all cheap backyard or skatepark bashers built to a price-point using inexpensive off-the-shelf bits and components made by several different factories in China. Nothing was developed and engineered to perform together in a competition setting. They are just a collection of cheap bits with a shiny coat of paint and anodizing, meant for kids to beat on until it's broken or it's time for bed.
    Was it fair to compare this inexpensive RTR to a proper race-prepped RC car? Probably not. But that wasn't the intention here. The message here is if you (or your son/daughter/nephew/niece/etc...) wanted to get into competitive RC Racing, and thinking you can simply "do it on the cheap" using a car like this, you should very seriously reconsider your approach. Lack-luster performance, dubious durability, and a complete lack of local support for parts and/or tuning guidance, means you'll be spending FAR more money in parts to make the thing competitive than you would if you simply bought a supported RTR or kit from one of the respected racing brands.
    Besides, if it was really possible to build a competitive buggy out of one of these cheap Chinese RTRs, don't you think EVERY racer out there would have made the switch by now?
    Keep up the awesome work Ryan!

    Worst RC car review ever? Disappointed as I do like your other content. If this buggy gets people interested in rc because of backyard bashing.... Its worth it. And that's what it is for. Not to compete in a race environment. The fact that it still managed a few laps... And you could easily change the ball links on it.... Make it a very good introduction to rc.

    That car is a legend😂. "Hey, it's my first time on this track!" Sureee Ryan, haha. Also, it'd be interesting and possibly entertaining to put a high end setup in a cheapo like that, or vice-versa

    i have a neighbor that bought a ready to run smaller scale Associated car, but cleaning it and working on it and trying to get parts for it caused him to toss it in the trash. He said that if he had spent a little extra he could have had good car that he could clean and gets parts for easily.
    It's personal preference at this point, Ryan and his companion racers are obviously experienced drivers expressing their opinion that this car isn't worth the time or effort to make race ready (not that you couldn't do so and make it somewhat competitive, but right out of the box it needs some heavy work). The fact that parts aren't readily available for it makes it bottom choice for me as well. I went with Associated because their main office is near my house, there's people that work there that I used to race with, and I'm comfortable with their products and I know I can easily fix and maintain them.
    Just remember this my personal opinion just like it is Ryan's personal opinion after he went through the trouble of putting it through an actual qualifier.

      If someone likes it and enjoys it, sure! But my follow-up video is going to explain why I would never suggest this for any reason.

    This car can be upgraded with little cost and be very competitive I'd like to see that but then he would be supporting wltoys and not his own

    Hi Ryan, so interesting to see you feature this car, I have one on the way....well the body anyway as its apparently a straight fit onto my XB4 but £10 rather than £40. 😄
    I think WLtoys have pushed too far with their brushed motor for a 1/10 scale. I run the 1/12 scale brushed buggy from them (as a rally car) and it is a durable rocket ship, throttle turned down on track as too fast.
    For you, looking at it as a serious racer, these seem poor imitations of race buggys. But for kids just starting out bashing they are cheaper and more durable than anything from Tamiya, and hopefully lead them on to the good stuff from Team Associated, Xray, Schumacher etc.

      The thing about companies like WLToys is they just wan to test the market. With their business model, I would not be surprised in few years from now they will stop coping and begin to innovate and be a reputable brand. Technology is moving so quickly in the past few years it is inevitable.

    Ryan I generally like your comment, you normally come across as a nice guy…. In this video you really come across as a pompous snobby ass…. I’m no Wltoys fanboy, but I’m fairly certain if you put your race electric in it, spent time tuning and replaced the ball ups with associated, Losi, or other top tier manufacturers units it would preform much more respectably….also replace the tires as well cause I remember a UA-cam video from some pro driver who said the correct tires are the most important part of and race buggy…. As a matter of fact that guy was……you!
