Just from hearing the guy describe the problem, it sounded like a security problem. But you should've asked for driver's license and the registration to make sure the dude even actually owned it
There shouldn't have been the 2 fobs doing separate functions. If there's 2, then most of the time there's a standard operation key and a "valet" key. Both should operate the vehicle the exact same. But the valet key would keep the vehicle from going over a certain speed when driving. It's a strange situation you find yourself in here

It’s not a key fob for each. They need to be reprogrammed. Jeeps do this a lot. If you took the keys to a dealer or locksmith they would program them to do both. It cost a few hundred dollars per key( or it use to) that’s why the previous owner used two keys because it cost as much as the car to fix.
Watching your videos sure makes me want to come home and visit my dad and siblings. Also it’s a good source of education for me when it comes to working on vehicles.
A neutral safety switch will indeed stop a vehicle from leaving Park, but they should still start and usually in models like the Impala there are big screw heads acting like a push release. But all out this diagnostic was funny 😂 the keys were weirder than the cats
Back in the day, before electronic keys, all cars came with two keys. One opened the doors, tailgate/truck, and glove box. The other was the ignition key.
I had a similar issue in a ford focus, It was a bad solder in the gauge cluster, didnt have a good connection and set the security light off, wouldnt crank or anything
Would’ve been worse if they started it. In the winter all types of animals climb up in engines cuz they feel the warmth. I’ve seen the aftermath of many serpentine belts and animals meeting. Never turns out good for either.
Doge products had what was called a valet key and it will run the vehicle 3 times or 10 miles it was to keep valets from taking joy rides lol. It’s no longer an option for obvious reasons
The battery is dead ive known some cars to go into theft mode with the battery dieing you wont be able to start cause for reason the computer wont recognize the key or even get it out of theft mode until the battery is changed.
im not that educated in cars but when the keys werent working right i knew it was key program issue he might have more issues if the car is sketch like wrong ecu programmed or cluster but hopefully it was an engine swap with no programming or something or lostkeys programmed wrong
Nice video just said that your Snap On scans so wouldn’t program the key. I would’ve yelled at my Snap On dealer as much as the charge for those scanners.
These are the correct questions to ask. Either the key has failed. Which is super common on the Chrysler FOBIK keys. Or the ignition switch has failed. Most likely a proper locksmith or mobile tech with Chrysler Software. Can program a new key and get it cranking. But its possible it has other problems. IF it was at my shop. Id charge for diag, recomend a new key, because its needed to properly test the SKIM Ignition module. Then either it starts, or its getting a KEY and SKIM module. That code is generic and means the ECM doesnt recognize the key as programed to that vehicle. AND its most likely has nothing to do with using the incorrect key, i ALWAYs recommend customer purchase two keys. Because you need two working keys to program the SKIM. I give this guy props for starting his buisness, but at the same time hes bad mouthing some other mechanic hes spouting nonsense to the customer about what he thinks is wrong. All he needs to do is recommend a lock smith that can program keys..defer the service to him. YOU NEED TO NASTAF certified to legally program keys on this system. ONCE YOU BUY the software you will still need the SKIM CODE. which some altell tools will do. BUT if you dont have the skim code you will need NASTAF cert to beable to get it from the dealer. OR a locksmith. sorry for the rant.
They knew what they where doing when they started putting computers in cars. No more shade tree mechanics. But thankfully I’ve been able to keep up with all the BS and still fix my own and I’m over 50. They need to go back to the motors from the 60’s and 70’s no more fuel injection.
If anyone reads this before you buy a Dodge journey, they are the worst vehicles in the world. They are absolute one hundred percent pure garbage run run, run run away there worse than range rovers.
I have never seen him fix a car, I have been watching for a week now at some point he will do something other than diagnose stuff but I am not convinced he can.
He has fixed many cars. But he isn’t working out of a shop, he’s limited to what he can do. He finds the problem every time and fixes what he can. He didn’t have the software for keys because he’s not a locksmith lol
My favorite is when he recommend the customer remove the timing cover to verify timing on a 4.7 jeep...because of a cam sensor code. After he looked on the scanner and verified the cam sensor wasnt counting...like idk check the sensor??? The customer even said the car ran after they put the autozone sensor it. COME on bro. Your charging people..and giving horrible advice. Do you even have any experience?

What a stupid idea to have two key fobs that if you confuse them shuts the car down
Explains why it’s not in production anymore

Your video popped up in my recommended, very impressive work and great channel! 👍🏼
The code was from using the incorrect key. I am almost sure that the locksmith programmed the key but ultimately the dealership had to change the skim

Knowing a bit about dodge probabaly needs the skim module and keys
It's absolutely ridiculous that you can brick a key by using the wrong keyfob, specifically the one that comes with the car but only unlocks doors.
