  • Fitting a keylite roof window from start to finish. Most of the advice should apply to any roof window.
    Not quite the two minutes that Roger Bisby demonstrates in his video but it doesn't take too long.

    Had a roofer fit some of these a few years ago on my self build and i have just had my first leak, not enough for a drip but discoloured the plaster at top after a cloud burst. Checked it out by standing on a scaffold tower on the inside.
    There was a lot of leaf debri in the top and side channels that may caused the top to overflow. Looks like cleaning the leaf debri out will be a anuual event. Great video, only one online with any detail about keylite windows.

      Thanks for the feedback. Can you put a leaf catcher higher up the roof to try to keep them out of channels. Having said that, regular inspection is probably a good thing as it helps catch things before they become a serious problem.

      Also them 2 screws you thought you lost at the end if you look the hole from the top flashing lines up with the 1 at the top of the 2 side flashings so the screw goes through both! you had already put the screws I’m surprised you dident hit the screw head with the self tapper ! I’m sure it won’t matter

    I’ve just ordered four of these windows for my kitchen extension that I’m building. It’s good to see a live fitting as opposed to the training rigs and fancy music in the Keylite/Skillbuilder videos. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

    hi just watched your video I've now have a greater understanding of the job I've got to do come the summer and I thank you for that, my only question to you if you were to do your roof again would you not order the 1.5 meter Tyvek membrane and use it for the felt collar?? and save money it would just be a case off stenciling the frame.

    • @mr-jack
      @mr-jack  2 роки тому +1

      Rob, the felt collar has stitching around the corners to make it fit the window better. You could probably make one with the 1.5M Tyvek but I wanted to use the manufacturers collar just in case I had a leak. Keylite actually say the collar is optional but as my roof is the minimum 15 degrees I wanted to be a bit belt and braces.

    Bro that tyvek felt that you have used is tyvek building paper and not roof felt, I'm sorry to be the passer of bad news. Good job though

      @mr-jack  2 роки тому

      Mark, thanks for the comment but I think you might be confused with another Tyvek product.
      Tyvek® Supro is a durable, water resistant membrane that is reinforced with a laminated polypropylene nonwoven. This airtight, vapour-permeable membrane is extremely water-resistant, and can be used for all supported and unsupported pitched roofs.
