Dodge Challenger Scat Pack Overview and Road Test

- With the Dodge Challenger Scat Pack you get a package similar to the SRT Core package from last year. The R/T Scat Pack has a 6.4 liter HEMI engine with 485 horsepower, a track suspension, and enhanced cooling just to name a few. If you want to enjoy the Challenger as something more than a cruiser then you should opt for this performance package. The extra power over the regular R/T (+110 HP) makes this car quite pleasant to drive.

While everyone is complaining about the review, I must point out that men don't wear nail polish.
He kinda downed the R/T Challenger but I live in a area where they are barely seen. I love my 375HP R/T Classic and its color. Its giving me a lot of respect between the younger crowds and older people who have that love and passion for muscle. I would love to own a Scat Pack but there is nothing wrong with a R/T!!!!!!!
I agree Sean, I have a 10 Charger R/T and it's nothing to sneeze at. I love my Charger, but my Challenger will be a 392.
Nothing wrong with the 5.7 Challenger/Charger Trim, I drove a Shaker for years before upgrading to the 392.
I just test drove one of these cars yesterday for quite some distance (and as an owner of a mustang gt, can say that this car truly surprised me). To be honest, my only gripe with the R/T scat pack was the lack of a manual transmission... a gripe I quickly got over once I put the car into manual mode and used the paddle shifters (which were responsive though admittedly not as fun as using a traditional manual transmission w/ clutch). The car was very quick... it felt just a tad quicker than my 2013 boss (though this may or may not be true) and the interior was far ahead of anything in the mustang. The challenger's sport steering could be made very heavy with just the push of a button (of course something similar can be found in the mustang) but due to the sheer weight of the car I felt like I couldn't push it as hard as the boss around a corner. Performance wise I was certainly happy to drive the car... but the interior and ride quality were truly where this new challenger shined... not to mention a damn good factory exhaust note. I guarantee you that if you step foot into this car you will be amazed at the quality of the interior.
Congrats to Dodge on making a great car for a good price, I will certainly be considering the R/T scat pack when looking to add a new muscle car to my collection.
P.S., please don't reply to comment in a disrespectful manner, just a mustang owner/driver giving his impressions of a new excellent competitor. Cheers.
very decent of you to give a fair review like that.
Appreciate the review, but the manual is an option. Maybe it wasn't originally, but the one I just specced out through USAA had it available (double-checked Dodge's site to be sure).
WisdomFall Performance wise they are both close- although the R/T scat pack can be had for the price of a well optioned GT ( I would recommend checking out Ford's website for the build options on a GT). The Scat Pack has about 50 more crank horsepower and is also a much larger car (heavier) - the interior is relatively comfortable and the braking is precise. The car isn't a bad handler, but it isn't quite as fun to drive around corners as the new GT.
Both are brilliant cars and you really can't go wrong with either of them - but I loved the exhaust note of the 6.4L engine underneath the hood of the scat pack, it was so rewarding to hear. Taking into account that you won't be doing much else than commuting in the car, and because I don't know how much gas mileage matters to you I would say go for the scat pack.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. to you Bro!! that's the way a car lover should be!!! Everyone could have his favorite, but there's nothing wrong with telling something good about the competence.
Good review on a badass muscle car! You are right, for street muscle performance, the Scat Pack is the sweet spot. For the dragstrip, the 1320 offers the extra features like a transbreak, which is unnecessary for street. Get the TF 8 speed for quicker shifting, or the 6 speed for the authentic retro character.
This car looks really good in black
Yes it does!
My color of choice as well.
I like both; the Octane Red and Destroyer Grey.
B5 blue by far the best color for a car, way too many black and white cars on the road … 🥱
@@johnhuddleston8647 grey is boring too
I have the 5.7 and it's plenty fast for a everyday car not sure why you would say I need the bigger engine to keep up with mustang
maldo72 the mustang got and camaro ss are without a doubt faster than 5.7l. The 6.4 puts it very close or even at the new 2016 camaro ss in the straight.
God Save America
yes true but for normal people who drive these cars to work (LIKE ME) the 5.7 is plenty of fun ... and more balanced for an everyday driver then the bigger motor version ...
0 to jail in a few seconds, the 392 is competitive at the dragstrip, and on the street to this day. As you said in the review, it also makes a great daily, you can drop off groceries and head to the dragstrip in the same car...lol
Awesome video, I really like how you explain the other available packages and their differences with the Scat Pack package.
Kudos on working "panoply" into a video. Nice work Ben!
I noticed that right away, too Jeff! I learned the word from Craig on RoundAboutshow lol.
Thanks Jeff!
All I can say is you must not have much time in the original challenger to think they didn't put retro cues in the previous challenger interior. Yes they didn't do the gauges like they should have but the dashboard you didn't like and the door panels were right from the challenger/cuda. I do agree they could have done more but don't pretend all they did was lift it out of the charger. What they did do is lift it out of the charger for this one.... if you actually look at the dashboard. Although they did do the gauges this time.
Awesome video! Keep them coming!
okay, i liked your video. I've watched a lot. i actually got some new info. great job. I'm trying to decide between a rt scat pack shaker and srt8. I think i just made my decision due to your video. wanted a hellcat but lots of money and too plain in my opinion. thank you...
6:56 wow that car is huge!! I guess that's what muscle cars were originally sedans with two doors and massive engines......... Love muscle cars
Great review!
A true muscle car
These are the best looking of the 3 by far. I would take one of these with the 8 speed auto.
I love this new R/T Scat Pack... Especially in 6 speed manual form. OMG I want one now. It even goes around the skid pad at 0.90G (Avg) which is better than most cars on the street, so that's just a nice bonus compared to the 2009 R/T's 0.78G lol. I love how the new Scat Pack had a less expensive as tested price than both the Camaro SS & Mustang 5.0
I'm one of the few who loves all three cars, but I am really interested in this new Challenger with the improved interior + the 485 HP 392 V8 is pretty nice as well :)
still feel the black cat is the best looking cat,
I got the auto on a plain R/T and just did 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. The scat pack does it in 4.3 seconds. I do like the seats and sound of the scat pack but not sure it is worth 10k more.
4:17 What ? im confused ? please while you're talking about fun hidden features in the challenger, it would be nice to actually see them instead of other random parts of the car, also in the beginning while your talking about the center console and the storage, we as the viewers cant even see on the screen what you are talking about
he wants you to find it yourself one day;)
Great points Andrew! SHOW the points your actually talking about in real time. i.e. You talk about the Challenger icon on the windshield while showing one of the wheels. What spark of a genius did the editing for this? Good review outside of that.
this car looks amazing.
Would be far less annoying if this guy didn't talk like there was a period after every. single. word. he. says.
lol!
I never understand these "experts" that review cars and it just seems like they have never even spent an ounce of time in the old interior. Is the 2015 interior better? Hell yes it is... But the dash in my 11 SRT8 is not plastic... It's padded. The door panel tops are covered in vinyl, not hard plastic. The console is hard plastic, the bottom of the door panels are hard plastic and the glove box is hard plastic. But yes the new interior is light years ahead... One of the reasons I have a Hellcat on order, as much as I love my 11 SRT8, I WANT all these awesome new features and the new interior.
lmjames33 I can completely understand not wanting to part with your 12 SRT8 to get a 15. The new interior looks great to me, but not to everyone. And realistically you wouldn't be gaining anything else.
brett248vista Do you have cylinder deactivation in the 2012?
Luke Snyder I have a 2011 and yes it has MDS (Cylinder Deactivation). I have a Hellcat ordered and that won't have Cylinder Deactivation :)
Awesome. I am ordering the Scat Pack quite soon. Having the cylinder deactivation will be awesome.
Luke Snyder Congrats! You will not be disappointed! :)
I have the regular R/T and the low end is actually pretty decent. It had 410 pound feet of torque which is more important than the horsepower on the low end. The only thing that could be faster for me is the high end like 60-80. The handling is the worst thing about the car. I wonder why Dodge just doesn't tune up the 5.7 to be more powerful. It's already a huge engine by today's standards. Where I live, there is very few places to go really fast so I would never need the higher power. Would be fun to have though. Too bad car companies start low, then keep upgrading things for just a little more money. I think they want to keep their customers trading up.
I like this guy. Great review, sir!
Wonderful video
Great Video. I can't wait to place my order.
More interior driving noise at speed, or during hard acceleration please. All the talking in the car with 1-2 shifts---boring! Blah blah blah, less talk, more engine noise, especially with something that makes GREAT engine noises.
The outside drive-bys were good though.
All-in-all, good review. Awesome car!
Did u plasti dip your nails???
Rudy Garcia yea it adds more horsepower
hahahaha dead
Om my gosh, he is wearing nail polish....Where do they find these people!
It was an early shout out to the trans community
Doesn't the scat pack also come with the shaker hood??
Who is the bracelet for on your right hand?
Wow talk about all the cool little things on the car but don't show them. This is a UA-cam video not a radio channel
How did they squeeze the extra 15 ponies out to 485? Any movement on TQ?. Give me TQ over hp ANYDAY
Torque Is 475 I believe
GOOD VIDEO but i wil say marlyn manson paints his nails black tooo
I just wish they offered more of the old 70s colors.
Which were ?
Octane Red, like mine, looks like Candy Apple in bright sun@@zxJC34xz
Smart Man
Very good review!
So in other words it was the Previous SRT just renamed "Scat Pack"
no
+BMan100 Really it's the SRT Core just updated.
x7stringinJSCx Well the "core" was in the US, here in Canada we only had the full blown SRT
BMan100 ahhhh man. That's a shame.. Could you have the option to order it from the US? That seems really unfair.
x7stringinJSCx well look at it this way, the Hellcat in the US has some stuff called you know.. "OPTIONS"....we don't. our hellcat is fully loaded. Look up the dodge website for Canada lol. even if the dollar is less there is still a difference OF 5-7 grand...
Is the Dodge Challenger Scat Pack a better option than the SRT 392? I have notice many dealers are selling the two vehicles very close in price.
Same engine, same suspension and brakes...a few interior differences, but you can similarly equip the two models and be within 2k of each other. One will say SRT, one will say R/T.
Steven Holderby the ba
akes are not the same.
Steven silverman I stand corrected. I thought they were, my mistake.
Tires are wider, SRT has magnetic ride control, bigger brakes, even more adjustable settings. Basically the SRT is a Scatpack x2
Scat 4 inch brembos vs 6 inch in SRT@@stevenholderby6354
I want
where can i get the hat? lol
Wish I could've saw what he was talking about instead of just staring at him.
INSTEAD OF PAINTING YOUR FINGERNAILS BLACK AS I CAN SEE IN YOUR VIDEO ,,,,, color match it to your car ,,,,,
You know you can just turn down the power in the hellcat, right? lol :)
His right stank hand is on my nerves.
Does this guy have finger nail polish on? 5:55 Maybe he dresses in drag on the weekends.. :/
Mmmmm
Nope, audi mmi and bmw idrive are by far the best, dude.
My wife's f10 550xi I drive sucks. And what sucks worse is the digital dip stick that I access via I drive. U connect is way better. The f10s just had a recall on the timing chains wearing causing engine failure. 40 hour job (luckily ours was warrantied, as some owners are not). $500 battery as the moronic alternator must be programmed, requiring equipment. We have experienced injector failure leaving my ass end almost getting squashed by a semi during interstate merge. BMW are trash. I much prefer my 0 problems SRT 300 6.4L. It's faster has more gadgets, gets more thumbs and doesn't leave me on the roadside.
Then why you surfing for the challenger
LMAO "Scat Pack"
Only weirdos were fingernail polish
OPTION #2 get a black challenger to match your finger nails goth ..........
did anybody else see his black fingernails
I was too busy tripping over his shirt . . .
I wonder if the rocket scientists at dodge understood that "SCAT" is animal poop! Worst car name sense the NOVA..(Spanish for NO-GO)
Is the reviewer really wearing that nasty shirt and has painted fingernails?
Cosplaying as a man while reviewing a masculine car? Cause real men don't wear nail polish..
This reviewer obviously has had some traumatic experience in his life . Why paint your nails like a woman??
It's like 8 years old designed the exterior. It is a waste of an engine. Sucks.
