    The wind rejection is great, but the wind muff is killing the high frequencies, which is normal. Compensate with an EQ and high frequency boost. My recommendation is a narrow boost at 1 kHz (for consonants) and a wide boost from around 3k to 10k (to add “air” and open up the sound.) When the pros use those giant wind killers on major films, they also use EQ to compensate.
    EQ should be available in your editing software. Once you get a curve that you like, you should be able to save it as a preset, so it shouldn’t slow your workflow.
    Salud!

      a much better description of what I came here to say: The DJI mic sounds "flat" or "muffled" compared to the audio from the camera. I do like how it killed the wind noise though.

    • @JonFairhurst
      @JonFairhurst 8 місяців тому +2

      Yes, it’s no surprise that a good wind muff muffles sound. DJI could add a HF boost, but if the muff is removable, then it would sound wrong without the muff. It’s also possible that the mic system has noise and hiss, so they cut the high frequencies to hide it. It would take trial and error to figure out how much HF boost it can handle to get the most out of it. Fortunately, EQ in video editing software is usually free. 😀

    Sounds really good, a little "muffled" but i don't think its anything you couldn't improve a tad in post. The upside is - no wind noise, so overall a good thing. Without the mic the audio was more crisp, but caught all the ambient noise and wind.

    The mic sounds excellent, but aside from wind, ambient noise is nice. Especially the "gravel grinding".

    I have been Muir Woods curious for awhile, more for my emergent bike curious family and friends as an all around starter. Sound with new mic was great.

    I was surprised by the quality of the audio given the windy conditions along with the stabilization of the video portion. I would say it's a success. I will definitely look into Marin's product line. Thanks for the video.

    I would love to see some of those rides/videos with the horizon leveling feature turned on as to see how good it is since that is the main reason I'm in the GoPro system

    Muirwoods is great bang for the buck. Quite snappy and there is so much you can do with it despite Marin marketing it as a commuter bike.

    Since the original and newer DJI mic systems also act as stand alone recorders, you can put one on Laura and then just sync in post. A bit more labor intensive but a work around for now.

    Sound is good to me. I’m nearly deaf and use hearing aids.
    As for the wind - Laura’s shirt was flapping away and was a good indication.
    Hope you two are settling in well. You seem to be throwing yourself into work.👍🥂

    I also just got the Mic2 but haven’t had a chance to try it yet. I’m hoping to use it with the Go3 and just sync in post, but you’re making a good case for the DJI camera…
    More importantly, I finally just cut off the Velcro straps on my Riv gloves. Way better that way! ✌️❤️🚲

    That is amazing - not perfect but amazing nonetheless! I'm thinking of updating my equipment and I'll definitely be looking at these for my upcoming Spain trip (May - June). I hate wind noise on videos and normally just scroll past when I hear it. Yes there are audio issues that need EQ but its such a great improvement over a standard mic.

    Try 4K... I think YT distorts 1080p content which has movement. The microphone wasn't too bad, a little bit muffled but I could hear everything well enough. And that Muirwood looks like an interesting bike. I've been riding a hardtail MTB mostly on gravel trails like this and I just really prefer the slack geo and wider tires over riding a fitness or gravel bike. Just feel more comfortable and not as worried about a soft spot or crack in the trail. I also appreciate a more upright sitting position.

  • @buckettraveler8398
    @buckettraveler8398 4 місяці тому

    Sounds really muffled. Maybe the next one would be better. I still think recording external and syncing it up in post is the best. Heck, software could do it automatically, just line up the audio. If software on cams can't do it software on a PC should be able to.

    The sound from the wind is removed. However, the sound is neater in the GCN videos. It just sounds like your microphone is in your pocket, a bit muffled. I wonder what setup the GCN team use.

    The sound is very nice for me. Maybe @jonfairhurt 's suggestions will make it even better but even without the difference is night and day.
    Very nice work on everything you do. Especially loving the positive vibes you present in your videos overall.
    I want to ask about the DJI image quality though. The videos look like the brightness is too high or the contrast is too low. Is this the "straight out of camera" visual settings or do you apply manual settings or post editing?
    Currently in the market for a new action cam and am considering insta360 ace pro mainly because of Garmin integration. Would like to hear your thoughts.

    DJI are really blowing GoPro out of the water here as far as I'm concerned - and they're not even doing it with the camera/image quality itself!
    Being able to quickly switch mounts/angles with the magnetic mount, all the while chatting wirelessly via that lav mic..... I kinda hate the term, but it really is a "gamechanger."
    My only concern right now is about the reliability. Does it connect quickly and easily when using the quickshot feature etc.... Surely it's more reliable than GoPro though!
