- README: This is a comparison of a FS2004 video I made in 2011 and Flight Simulator 2020 of a Boeing 747-8 landing at Paine Field (KPAE). The fs9 video was flown and recorded on a laptop with not so great specs hence the low quality. The difference is clear and as such I didn't think I needed to identify which version is which but if you still aren't sure, the left is 2020 and right is 2004.
The 747-8f was freeware from Project Opensky while I use the default Asobo 747-8i in MSFS2020. Audio used is from both sims but more from 2020. I tried to recreate the video as accurately as I could. As for the landing it may not be as smooth or graceful but the mission was the same, to have another successful landing after a long test flight ;)

Notice how old fs2004 . The wheels and gear make proper contact with the ground and do not look buggy compared to msfs2020. I dont know why Microsoft cant sort out simple issues.

The reason why the tyres in msfs stick through the ground is because when you make a plane in msfs there are ground contact points which haven't been designed to dynamically interact with the ground when using tilted undercarriage, which means the wheels will just glitch through the runway until the landing gear has fully touched down.
Those shots from FS2004 looks like real life footage to me somehow
its because we are use to watching them in videos which have low quality where as in msfs it is like what you would see in real life and not in a video
@@lucastan7995 you actually want it to look a bit more like a camera than real life though, imperfections sell realism.
Imperfections also hide imperfections. You don't want to see the game too raw. because then you see all the grainy low quality imagery, all the weird buildings, and film grain and bumps in the road and weird artifacts.
I use a mod for fs2020 that makes it look a bit more like a camera quality, makes you feel like you're really watching real footage you can control.
Fs2020 as it is just looks too smooth and dull.

Wow, the video on the right is from 2011, 12 Years ago! AHH! Nostalgia Overload!! That was the era when I used to make FS2004 videos on UA-cam regularly!
I have both FS9 and FS2020 and I still prefer the former over its modern counterpart, Yes, its graphic is dated, being a 20 years old Sim, but the amount of high-quality freeware planes and scenery in FS9 is simply unbeatable and It's what keep FS2004 fun to me.
I fully agree, even something as simple as the tower view or being able to move the aircraft's position on the map, those were good times indeed.
I'm still rocking with X , I like that better than 20. As mentioned by mmstraker, the better view interfaces are key. IMHO the "better" scenery in 20 is not that much better. And I have a boatload of pay ware planes for X.
2004 would not run on my new Windows 11 computer.
The 2004 747 is for sure a PMDG one, the MSFS is the default buggy one.
2004 is not PMDG, it was a freeware aircraft by Project Opensky.
FS2004 has more conventional camera like quality.
For me, 2004 is perfect

Based on that, the color correction and the overall saturation of the sim looks more accurate in fs 2004
The 2004 one is modded like crazy at high setting vs a default 2020 with regular or low settings.
FS2020 on low settings? Where? The 2020 is running on high preset, 2004 was running on a laptop with integrated graphics.
Makes me appreciate both, to be honest.
I still use FS2004 to this day, you're always going to upgrade with more expensive programs, but this never failed on me. It's so well built, my computer dies before this game does.

Injust bought the virpil hotas and rudder pedals. If they work on fs9 inam staying with that. If not it looks like XP 11 or 12.

I always keep FS9 installed on my system. Anyone who hasn't tried out the flightzone sceneries for Portland or Rhode Island should. They are a must have and in my opinion, the most well done scenery for FS2004/9. Considering that just about anything hardware related can be made to work on FS2004 using FSUIPC and harder core stuff like project magenta work with it, FS2004 is a good choice for a no nonsense sim that works without crashes to desktop, etc.

Still can’t beat Tower view and record your landings and take off to your hearts content!! Watching yourself crab in 50mph crosswinds and the FS2004 still did good wingflex…….I know im Xbox now but couldn’t justify £2k for a computer to play one game.
Xbox version has close to no freeware aircraft and mods so I still mostly play p3d since it works on my laptop with many mods
Love 2020, but still miss the old 2004. All the aircraft you could download and paste into the game was pretty cool.

Idk man..fs2004 just feels like a proper sim.. the airliners feel heavy, the flight dynamics and all feel realistic and it's just more enjoyable idk... msfs2020 is a beautiful sim tho... hopefully they'll fix this in ms2024
Is that the B748 from SkySpirit? The textures looked familiar.
Project Opensky, but very similar textures and model.
I've been flying simulators for 23 years and I still use FS 9 for ifr's. It is the best and most stable simulator released, even with a million add-ons.

Yes, there are tons of free and payware addons and tweaks to enhance it.
Mine was heavily modded, mostly free

So it's easier for folks to know which is which, you should put in the description which half of the screen is which year of Flight Sim.

I have FSX now. I lost FS2004 after I got window10.
You need the no cd patch to run FS2004 on windows 10. Just do a google search and download the patch from a reputable site.
I still fs9 in win10, has been hard job bring to back life but i done. after years of MFS, last week finally i choose XP12.

Are you comparing a default aircraft in MSFS, with a PMDG addon in FS9? Not really a level playing field.
It was Project Opensky which is freeware so nowhere near PMDG level. Also, it's more of a comparison of graphics than the aircraft.

In what way? Plenty of extremely high fidelity aircraft coming to the sim, not to mention the couple that are already there like the fenix a320. What about it makes you say this
@@oliverek7 Not complaining about the scenery, though I am complaining about the aircraft. You mention the FenixA320...hmm...How many Airbus A320's are there?..Too Many!...Easy for the developers to just 'tweak' the cockpits from the default. Yes, there are some (hopefully) decent aircraft coming...but when you look down the list of aircraft in the Marketplace, it's full to overflowing with GE aircraft that are so rare, you'd never see one in the skies overhead..Or Jet fighters that are soooo bad, they're laughable.
@@googleisshittossthis just shows your ignorance about the topic. Fenix cockpit is made from the ground up, not reusing Default cockpit assets.
Furthermore, when you compare MSFS to FS9, you have to realise that when it comes to flight sims, MSFS is still very new. It’s not honest to compare a sim on a new engine with 3 years of addons development to FS9/FSX/P3D engine which had like 16 years of development by the time MSFS came out.
It took more than 4-5 years before good studysims got released for FS9 (Pmdg 737 for example). A more honest comparison would be to compare what addons were available for FS9 in 2006-7 to MSFS now. (Using this method for FSX does not work as well, since FSX and FS9 share the same engine so many planes and existing work could be ported)
@@googleisshittossmy comment is not saying that all addons of msfs are good or better. Like you said the MSFS marketplace is filled with shit addons, wish microsoft removed those scam aircraft. But looking back, there were as many shit aircraft back in the day for the older sims too. We just remember the Gems

I spend two years comparing and testing betwen MSFS and XP11/12 at the end i choose XP12, but FS9 still life in my machine.
