This version includes my favorite verse (not many do): "I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though it all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah" Redemption is a powerful thing.
I thought this was in like, all versions... like, he had a set first and last verse, and everything in between was random to what he felt like at the time. Maybe I'm wrong. Idk.
I'm 100% atheist but even so I still love this song... always have, always will. For me it's just as much about the human spirit as it is about any religion.
Leonard Cohen has been there all through my life. And with every new album one or two songs were added to my personal list of all-time favourites. Leonard is there with the truly great like Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and Brel, with songs such as Halleluja, If it be your will and The window. Thank you, Leonard Cohen, for making the world more beautiful.
I could swear that god send this man to Earth for this very purpose I heard Rufus, I heard Jeff, I heard many "Best hallelujah version" but no. Nothing can beat this never, never.
This is incredible. To hear and see the original songwriter singing his famous song! Everyone thinks of the "Shrek" version, but THIS IS THE REAL THING, written years ago, and he doesn't get enough credit his genius! He wrote eleven verses to this, but I can only find them in his book....this is WONDROUS! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS WITH THE WORLD!
LC is soooo bloody wonderful. He wrote this, and sings it better than any one. I will remember this song for the rest of my life, -- plus it gives me thoughts of the best man on the planet, cos he introduced me to it, I love him. Cheers. Sky.
He was going 50 yaers in my live. In this time was go dead my lovely wife, my two younger brothers, and now hi is going. And with him the biggest part from my live. So long Leonard Cohen. The live is short but a big gift from God. Amen. Halleluja.
My favorite lyrics are: "Maybe there's a God above", "Your faith was strong But you needed Proof", "You say I took the name, but I don't even know the name, but really, If I did, really; what's it too you?!?" "There's a blaze of light in every word, it doesn't matter which you heard the Holy or the Broken hallelujah". Man I wish God were real.
Leonard Cohen is one of Canada & the worlds true treasures. His lyrics are genius, his music rejuvinates, teaches & moves us to be kinder human beings. Why do we provoke each other with nasty comments? Those of us who do have lost the meaning of the GIFT of music.
I fell in love with this song in freshman year of high school. I’m 27 now and still listen constantly. It’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard
I got the news this morning. I just can't believe it. My first exposure to this guy was in 2009's "Watchmen", one of my favorite Comic Book Movies of all time. I first heard this song in a cover form in "Shrek", but this one is widely superior to that cover. R.I.P. Leonard Cohen, and may songs of Angels guide thee to thy rest.
Mr. J ; Try Listening to a Celebratory Christmas Version. Same Beautiful Music - Without Cohen's Depressing "Lyrics"‼️ Christians, DO IT BETTER 👍. JL - ✝️ 🎄 12/7/19
David Trompton, if you feel this is shite, I feel bad for the people who have to deal with your horrible sense of taste & feeble brain on a regular basis.
What's hilarious to me is I've heard this song a million times and only now do I finally hear the composers version! The song never went out of fashion like the video has!
Still so much better than all covers. People who were "searching for this for years": Next time try searching in a cd store or on iTunes... Always a better source for music than UA-cam :-)
I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though it all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah...
Uma das mais conhecidas e apreciadas versões e interptretações de uma canção que não esquecemos e nos emociona sempre que a ouvimos ... Acho que esta é de facto uma das mais preferidas entre todas (incontáveis?) ....
No nations no boundaries no religions, this song is representing the universe language of all time. May I express in my Language na ka : ทุกครั้งที่ฟังเพลงนี้ ทำให้นึกถึงอดีตที่ผ่านมา ทุกครั้งที่เห็นการจากไปคนใดคนหนึ่ง ช่างเศร้าเหลือเกิน แต่ทุกอย่างคือสัจธรรม ความจริง : May God Bless You Always!
It's the track that took him so long to make because he wanted it as close to perfection as possible. With the thousands upon thousands of covers people have done over the decades, I'd say that he succeeded.
His most hypnotic rendition. This is the best version. He says "yah" instead of "you" and it makes for a much smoother and, in my opinion a more emotive feel to the song. I know Leonard preferred to use his words rather than taking shortcuts; this song transcends that. If it's the only song he sang with slang then all the better to differentiate it even more from all (of his) songs. This is a masterpiece, like 'Bohemian Rhapsody', it just pulls you into its orbit and you get lost in it.
This is my favorite version of this song. At this point in his life his voice was that perfect blend of all that whiskey and cigarettes or what ever (he says ) caused this deep rich sound. .AND this song is so amazingly rich. It evokes emotions that have nothing to do with religion for me. It is joyful, painful, spiritual, poignant and sexual. Leonard, what a song, what a guy!
Have loved him for over 30 years! My son (now 28) grew up listening to Leonard Cohen & Bob Dylan (all my favorite Jew-boys, along with Jon Stewart & Bill Mahar), My son plays guitar, and can sing all these songs. Thank you for posting. I just sent this version to him! Lia Emet--from Brooklyn
Seven people don't appreciate great music enough to notice it past the video. One of the most touching songs ever, made by one of Canada's greatest song writers of all time.
@mysticmicah this is also one of my very favorite music pieces. I saw it originally in The Netherlands and am also glad that it has returned to uTube. Good luck in all your efforts !!
I've listened to about a hundred different people singing this song and nobody does it better than the original - the amazing Leoonard Cohen. The Norwegians Espen Lind, Kurt Nilsen, Alejandro Fuentes, and Askil Holm come second and then .....................fresh air before anybody else comes even close.
Thank you so much for sharing this...tonight I really needed the best version of this song...it resonates in my soul. Regardless of people's translations or ideas of what this song really means...it brings me peace. Thanks again!
@JuniorT my second favorite verse, after the one preceding it "You say I took the name in vain I don't even know the name. But if I did, well really, what's it too ya. There's a blaze of light in every word, It doesn't matter which you heard The Holy, or the broken Hallelujah." as a literature nerd I get more than a little pleasure from the phrase "a blaze of light in every word."
This voice, these words, this melody, these choirs. How can it be so beautiful ? Answer : Leonard Cohen ! Thxs for this version which is just one of the most beautiful songs of all the times (to me)
Absolutely best version! No doubt about that. Leonard Cohen is amazing. Heard and saw him live in Malmoe, Sweden for the third time in my life this summer and he was better than ever. If possible!!
thanks por share this wonderful video. i has been looking for it !! cohen is the very best poet relanted to the music of the last half century. his songs touch deeply our hearts and minds.
This is my favorite rendition of his song. No one sings this like he does, his voice is haunting in a good way
It's one of the few artists that I want to sing along to but just cannot get a handle on it.
It’s beautiful but you should try the Pentatonix cover. Goosebumps
@@kanyefuck7018 true, pure unique voice he has
Jeff Buckley's version is very emotional in my opinion
This is the best version, maybe is cuz he is the composer
This version includes my favorite verse (not many do):
"I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you

Hallelujah ! And redemption is a powerful tool💕
Yyyyyeess this is the best part from the best song which sang by the best singer
I thought this was in like, all versions... like, he had a set first and last verse, and everything in between was random to what he felt like at the time. Maybe I'm wrong. Idk.
This song is about sex and orgasm. He has said this many times.
I really love all of this positive feedback. It's great to know that soooo many others appreciate Leonard Cohen like I do.
One of the greatest composers/lyricists of the 20th century IMHO.......I love everything his does.
Bill Carr
me too.

Goosebumps every time. RIP Mr Cohen.
I'm 100% atheist but even so I still love this song... always have, always will.
For me it's just as much about the human spirit as it is about any religion.
hahaha, hallelujah literally translates to "praise the lord" atheist?
Of course. It is about our true deep spirituality. The search for Love.
I just love the way this sounds, definitely one of the greats. Gone but never forgotten.
The original and best version of the greatest song ever written xxxx
Yes. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Each variation is torture. Don’t

I heard Rufus, I heard Jeff, I heard many "Best hallelujah version" but no.

So humble. So gentle. So talented. Our loss, but thankfully you were here for us and left this song behind.
Pure Class, this man. Forever.
