Did mine yesterday. One of my memory modules was missing a thermal pad COMPLETELY. It was very clear by the difference of wear on the module that it was never there. Don't think that the factory is perfect. Sometimes you gotta do it yourself.
Did you suspect they were bad? Or just the stock stuff isn't good enough? I have a regular 5700 with the XT BIOS that unlocks the frequencies to what the XT runs... So I really should do this myself!

The thickness is 1mm,some coolers the 1mm will be too thick so you squeeze it to make it like 0.75,i got new pads and tem went down from 94 to 72 amazing drop tbh
He showed the thermal paste quite clearly (Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut). and if you looked you would see he used 2.0mm gp-extreme thermal pads ( any good 2mm thermal pads will do the job the same or better).
i did it and i got instant 110c on gpu core. I then opened it back up and squished the thermal pads to make them smaller in thickness and that solved my problem but also made my mem junction go up.
@@YourBassNeeds yeah same happened to me after that. I used 0.5mm washers to increase pressure to a certain extent. That solved the issue pretty much but not completely :D
i used 2mm thick pads grizzly and a kryonaut for de chip. i have watercooling. gpu temp dont go above 45 celcius. but the hot spot/junction reaches 114 celcius. does anyone why this happens. im thinking to replace the pads with 1mm. got a red devil 5700xt powercolor
I noticed you added a strip of thermal pad to an area that didn't even have it prior. (2:35 you remove the tape on this section). Are you sure this is correct? anyone else verify this? I just replaced mine and am actually getting a green screen and worse performance. About to re-try.
@@g0at3 thats good to hear but you must have a hotspot temp all the 5000 series gpus had. It can be called junction temp sometimes. If you use Hwinfo or go to your adrenalin driver sensors you can see it. These gpus dont make decisions with normal gpu temp. Cause its a average temp. Hotspot is the hottest spot on the die itself and has a maximum of 110C limit. If one of the sensors on the die hits 110 gpu will start throttle immediately.
@@AnxStudios you are right I read that wrong. My hotspot is 19 deg cooler than the memory junction. Running at 70 right now. I realized I just don't ever look at the hotspot because mining kills the memory temps long before the core temps.
Hi, i changed the pads and thermal paste too (minus 8 pads, and kryonaut paste), but temps are not that good for me, even with undervolt, my hotspot temps are hiting 102C, any idea why ?
add 0,5mm plastic washers under the screws and slowly tighten each of them half turn, repeat this passage until they're firm. This is the only way to have a perfect mounting pressure on msi 5700xt mech, now junction temps are always under 90° and core max 76° with 100mv undervolt. No more clock bouncing and stutters.
my rx 470 gigabyte G1 in games runed at 78 degrees, after I changed termal pads temperature jumped on 88 degrees? Any opinion why? btw I used 1 mm thicknes and Thermal Conductivity: 1.2W~2.0W

I recently changed the thermal paste from this graphics card but since i did this the Fans have gotten so much slower even when i Set them at 100% speed i also disassembeld it again and unplugged fans cabel and plugged it in again still no changes
Maybe your overtightening the screws? did you use 2mm pads? dont see any reason for this mod to affect the fans in anyway asides from them staying at lower speeds because of lower temps

My Rx 5700 xt red dragon is running at about 80 Degrees Temperature, but my memory temps are (when mining) about 86-88 Degrees. Are those memory temperatures ok (long-term) or will i "break" my card when mining at these temps for long periods of time? If you know i would really appreciate an answer :)

Same situation. But temps are to high. I think thermal pads seem to be the solution
MSI sent these cards out with a poor thermal pad design. Look for the Gamers Nexus initial review last year

I removed that extra strip and it solved the issue. you can clearly see at 21 seconds (video) that there was only 1 strip and not 2 strips.
