You can if you are escaping from grizzly. If you have time you can climb higher than them. But you cant escape from black bears. Try to fight against black bears.
You can't really seem to tell a bear's motives until the deed is done. I dislike people trying to interpret bear behavior in other videos like "the bear is just curious, the bear isn't charging you, the bear doesn't see you"
This looks to be a hungry mother bear with her two near-adult sized hungry cubs that have run into a pair of smaller orphaned cubs that were waiting in the tree for their own mother bear. The orphaned cubs were probably separated from there original mother from either their mom being killed or chased away by a male bear and the cubs ran up the tree for safety while the mom distracted the male. The orphan cubs must've thought that the new mother bear was either their mom or a friendly bear since it probably gave off a similar "motherly" scent toward her own cubs if you will. The mother bear with the two larger cubs probably only saw the little cubs as food for her and her own cubs and having the smaller cubs approach her only triggered her defensive "mother bear" instincts, even if the orphaned cubs weren't approaching her in an aggressive manner. It's very rare to see a bear or any other nondomesticated animal try to take in or "adopt" orphaned animals, even of the same species as one of their own. It really is a dog-eat-dog world out there, but unfortunately, on 5/19/2017 it was a bear-eat-bear day. If you ever see a bear cub in the wild, GO AWAY IMMEDIATELY, and prepare yourself with bear mace because their mother is either close by or was killed by an even bigger predator that's close by as well. If you ever run into a Brown or Grizzly Bear, get in the fetal position and play dead while guarding your neck and vital organs since those bears just want to kill you to eliminate a possible threat for them. If you run into a Black Bear, fight with everything you've got because that bear wants to eat you. If you encounter a bear in the winter, GO AWAY, that thing is hangry because it didn't store enough food for winter hibernation so it will eat anything it can, no matter what the prey is. It's best to always have a can of bear mace on you when you're outdoors, even if you're just taking a hike because even though you probably won't ever have to face-off against a bear in the wild, it's never been pretty for those who have and you should protect yourself just in case.
@Mitchell Heath What he said is absolutely correct. A sow will kill cubs of not only her own but of other females as well. The one thing I do disagree with is that it is not rare for a sow to adopt the cubs of another sow. There are plenty of records of just that to prove that in fact they will. There is a perfect example at Explore.org where a bear named Holly adopted a cub of another sow who was being sought out by a boar during breeding season. That sow abandoned her cub to keep it from being killed by that boar so that he might breed with her. Holly then adopted that cub and raised him as her own.
Horrible death screams of tiny cub. I think the tiny ones were orphaned due to bear baiting otherwise they would have stayed in tree like mom said until she returned. The tiny cubs mistakenly thought the female with half grown cubs was "friendly" and sought out to be a mom to them.
The thing that gets me is how the mother bear initially charges and goes up the tree a little bit and is seemingly about to walk away until she looks back at the cubs and goes "Screw it". Imagine the relief those cubs felt when it seemed they were safe only to have their hopes dashed when the mother came all the way up the tree.

what are you talking about? it goes WITHOUT SAYING that natural by definition is seperate from humanity. without humans, natural would be unopposed. natural is ruthless and cruel, but also delicate and beautiful.
I agree. It's usually the eco freako hippie types that didn't grow up in the country saying that nature is so beautiful. Nature is not beautiful unless you enjoy watching other creatures suffer. It is full of pain and hardship. That's why we built civilizations, to escape from nature.
@@chadzard4 The fact that nature is indifferent to cruelty, and will inact it in droves as long as lifeforms keep reproducing... is truly frightening. Life on this planet is basically a naturally-created type of hell, that sentient creatures can't even hope to escape from. Even in our civilized bubbles all sorts of nastiness goes on.
It's obvious that the two separate cubs (one being the one killed), came from a different sow. This hunter set up the perfect scene for any and all bears to be possibly killed, whether by hunting, or by territorial instinct. This sad video comes from human influence.
Your uncreative, hack insult that only a THOT would use has no power here as I am gay. I bet your man, assuming you can keep one more than a month, is lowkey gay af because you are so boring and dull in real life.
No dumbfuck, this still happens in the wild when there isn't human influence. You can clearly see food right there yet the mother bear still tries to kill the cub for food.
Even polar bears will canibalize cubs when hungry. Lions do it for mating rights with a new pride, and reptiles are notorious for eating younger members of the same species. Heck, even scorpions snack on their own babies, as do many fish species. Nature can be cruel and terrifying.
So, for the countless time or hearing how cute they are and thinking nothing will ever happen around any Bear. At anytime we all could become a meal. I would never hike without a weapon that could save one’s life!
Positive those two tiny cubs were likely orphaned. Considering this seems to be filmed at a bait station which is probably frequented by hunters that know about it and use it. One of the many reasons baiting bears is illegal in BC, most hunters actually follow basic fucking laws, but you get the occasional idiot that shoots the first 'meat bear' he sees without waiting and watching to make sure it's a male... makes legal hunters look bad when this happens 'cuz the leaf-lickers end up lumping us all together in the same boat.
I have no idea of what's actually going on but it seems the 2 cubs got separated from the rest from the older bears that came out of nowhere. The momma bear ran away before they came. The two cubs come down and greet the biggest bear then realizes they're in trouble and unfortunately one gets eaten. Not sure if that was a large female bear or a large male. Because grown male bears tend to be a lone yet this bear had two smaller bears along with him/her. The momma bear that ran away was way too small to fight these bears off.
Usually big male bears can't climb trees,,,, I think this was a female bear that's why the cubs initially gravitated towards her, Female bears have been known to eat other female's cubs For the protein so that she may be able to nurse her own cups
I’m wondering why the mother Bear was tentative in immediately predating the orphaned cubs? It had an easier opportunity while the 2 young cubs approached her at first. But she waited till they climbed the tree? Maybe she likes “the thrill of the hunt”?
My guess is…. The barrels were there to attract the bears so they could be hunted. I imagine the cubs were without their mother because she was hunted by the person filming or whoever else hunts that area, leaving the cubs motherless. Another bear family comes along attracted by the barrels and I can only imagine the cubs came down thinking/hoping that maybe that was their mother or that they’d be taken in… And it seemed for a sec like maybe it was gonna work, but ultimately not, as it’s rare for a wild animal to take in another’s offspring. Sad story but nature is that way unfortunately.
@@dylan15243 not saying hunting bear is good it's fucked up but orcas kill for fun sometimes and leave their dead bodies untouched. these things are still nature (unless of course there was a systematic killing of buffalo like early USA days which was very unnatural

Where were the smaller cub's mother? Had she been anywhere nearby she'd have come running when the cub bawled the first time. You guys didn't kill her did you?
I think they killed the mum, it's sad because what's next ? If these cubs dont survive, because of humans killing the mums, who else is next ? Humans hunting humans for sure is the future.
Bears kill more bears than humans hunting them. Hunters don't shoot a sow since she means extra bears in the future. Hunter's want to harvest a big trophy boar like the ones that kill a cub to mate with it's mother
Jasmine Hand, it’s instinct for boar (male) bears to kill cubs that are not theirs. They kill them, eat them and then are free to mate with the mother to pass their genes on.
@@PhantomM16 Male beer "fathers' have nothing to do with their own children, - they sex the female in the spring 1x, impregnate them, and aren't involved with the mother raising their children after birth. In fact the father will eat their own kids - he doesn't know or care otherwise. He doesn't care about passing on his genes. It is just nature's calling that he needs to sex a female bear in the spring.
To note climbing a tree is still in some cases viable, however having a object even a boot or shoe just a downward angle most bears will just fuck off after awhile because the energy expelled they cannot get back so why waste more?
@@youtubekeepscensoringme No. Boar is more specific as it is the term for a male swine, male bear and even for a male guinea pig as well as some other mammals.

Rumorady - bears are very strict with their young....if they don't listen, this is what happens...that is why they are not hunting humans., bears know that a young cub that doesn't listen, will grow up and be a bigger problem. , but, since they have been getting hunted and killed in their dens with their young in Alaska, per trumps executive order, things are changing...carry bear spray.
CANALI Rodriguez trump wrote an executive order allowing hunters to kill bears and Cubs in their dens in Alaska.......this is making it unsafe for bears to stay in their dens, therefore, roaming more and more...just look at the increase in bear attacks since trumps executive order....it will only get worse....bears do not understand state lines, therefore will take any human as a threat.

I agree. It's usually the eco freako hippie types that didn't grow up in the country saying that nature is so beautiful. Nature is not beautiful unless you enjoy watching other creatures suffer. It is full of pain and hardship. That's why we built civilizations, to escape from nature.

Rather fight a bear in the tree or on the ground?
If they're bears in the woods, I don't go in the woods.

Yes she is William. Bears are cute and cuddly. She wants one.
Usually big male bears can't climb trees,,,, I think this was a female bear that's why the cubs initially gravitated towards her, Female bears have been known to eat other female's cubs For the protein so that she may be able to nurse her own cups
Omg . Needs to be on an episode of Snapped.
I’m wondering why the mother Bear was tentative in immediately predating the orphaned cubs? It had an easier opportunity while the 2 young cubs approached her at first. But she waited till they climbed the tree? Maybe she likes “the thrill of the hunt”?
She attacked when her cubs were NOT in the vicinity.
Jasmine Hand, it’s instinct for boar (male) bears to kill cubs that are not theirs. They kill them, eat them and then are free to mate with the mother to pass their genes on.
PhantomM16 BUT THATS A FEMALE you dont see the two other cubs?? They were from a different bear thats not in the video
@@PhantomM16 Male beer "fathers' have nothing to do with their own children, - they sex the female in the spring 1x, impregnate them, and aren't involved with the mother raising their children after birth. It is just nature's calling that he needs to sex a female bear in the spring.

To note climbing a tree is still in some cases viable, however having a object even a boot or shoe just a downward angle most bears will just fuck off after awhile because the energy expelled they cannot get back so why waste more?
Bears climb faster than they can run- Dwight Shrute

He just sat there looking at me yawned and looked around. I got off the machine turned it around by hand as we were on a narrow trail with ditches full of water on both sides. Pretty intense moment but once the machine started I watched the bear for a few more minutes and drove off as he stayed on the trail soaking in the summer sun. I’ve seen many black bears but was lucky enough to see one that was bigger then one mentioned above. This bear had to pushing 600+ lbs. he was so big he could just barely run as he was crossing a field. He was a brute
