The dipper is incredible as far as flex and turns, I'm enjoying it and wouldn't trade it for the world. I am still adjusting to not having the kicktail - it offers so much freedom of motion but the board slides right out from under you at times. It's worth it to be able to pump and turn like this. I'm 50 and this is my first board in over 20 years. Mine is setup #1 with blue Hawgs, and I'm truly having a blast. 🤙
I have the Ripper and it's one of my absolute favourite boards! The deck shape, the flex, the trucks - the whole package is just smooth surfy awesomness :D Been commuting on it with the wider truck setup + 70mm supreme hawgs ever since the weather's gotten more grimy. It's heavier than the standard ez's but the extra grip feels way safer on wet surfaces and dirt. The coasting speed is really nice too. Otherwise the ez's are fantastic and preferable since it makes the board surprisingly light too ^^
I always have the trucks moderately tight/loose and have never removed the risers, no reason to have them looser if you can pivot with the kicktail anyway imo, never had to adjust them for accomodating bigger wheels, I just switch them out and go ^^
After a friend of mine borrowed my ripper with 70mm wheels and 1/4" riser I'd be careful doing the same unless ur around my weight (65kg). He's around 80kg and got wheelbite! Just something to consider ^^
Haha that would be sick. Although, I would never get into making our own adapter/trucks. BUT, I am working on a special deck right now. Can't wait to reveal it
Dang…I guess I’m too late for the board giveaway? 😂 Thanks for the video. That definitely clears up some questions I had. I’ve been looking into the Landyachtz Big Dipper. Looks really cool. Any idea what might be more agile, a Dipper or a Drop Hammer? Just curious. Would love to hear the differences if anyone has ridden both. Thanks guys. Great channel. 😎👍
I have just bought a Ripper with 130mm and it felt so good for slides and some dancing & freestyle tricks as well! had to loosen the trucks a little bit....
Sounds like the ripper with the 130mm trucks would be a great balance because it still has the kicktail but it wouldn't struggle with turning as much. Maybe not as agile as the dipper with the 105s but still better than the 155s. Guess it depends what you're doing with 'em though. Great video (as always)
I bought a pintail LY from pawn shop for $50 w/soft surfboard style griptape @6 years ago and anytime my people wanna roll for a loop w/ me they always choose this guy hands down its too easy to ride even for non skaters .. Love the polarbear trucks and bearings .Only thing I've had to replace are wheels and bushings ..Superior quality not made in America.I have had at least 3 or 4 clones that I cut from plywood and sold em all. lovin this reveiw couldn't agree w ya more w the length of the trucks and how it affects you turning radius... Also definitely gotta have bigger softer wheels for rocky roads especially down here in Galveston Tx.👍👍
Nice man thanks for sharing your experience. I'm curious what you don't like about the wheels and bushings because I haven't had any issues with my wheels or bushings. What aspect are you talking about? Genuinely curious
Because it's going to be less difference in terrain height difference as you ride, if you ride a 70mm wheel the thickness of a coin, its going to go "down into" every hole/ imperfection bigger than a coin, while if you use a 70x50mm wheel over the same hole/imperfection the wheel will have the sides outside the hole to support it, this will make the wheel move less up and down when in an uneven/rough terrain, having most of the energy going forward instead of up and down will mean a faster, less bumpy ride, hope this helps.
I have the exact same Yow Surfskate at 1:47. It’s a beauty and I love the feel of it…but it decided to break my arm and ribs while skating a bowl 4 months ago. Coming back for inspiration on a new longboard to start skating again.
The Ripper with the 130s looks like my fave of the bunch! The dipper with the Gen 6 Grizzlies looks kind of pointless... until I consider that it's basically just a traditional pintail, and who doesn't like that? But I think I'd still prefer those 105s for getting some sweet pumps while cruising my city!
I am just starting to learn to longboard and wanted to get into slidding, i have two dippers im going to set up one with 63 mm ez hawgs, and one with 63 mm chubby hawgz. keeping the 130 tkp trucks on the dipper with the 63 ez hawgs and on another 130 rkpt on the other wtih fatty hawgs for more cruising carving do you think this would be a decent place to start slidding
kind of a late answer (and I'm obv not shred shack) but I have ridden the howdy for quite some time now practicing tricks and cruising. It's an awesome board in general, compared to a normal skateboard it's noticably heavier and surfier. Almost feels like a longboard when you ride it and the 60mm ez's roll over so many things you barely have to manual or ollie over them. The weight can be noticable - was surprised how much lighter my friends hollow truck skateboard felt during ollies by comparison, but I'd personally take the smoothness for the added weight any day since I just got used to it in the end :) I'd mabye take a normal skateboard if my town had a park but since I'm mostly cruising and have practice sessions here and there I'm super happy with it ^^
I’m looking for a cheap longboard to dance & so tricks on. Any recommendations? I’ve been looking on Amazon and I know Amazon isn’t too great for boards, but what would you suggest? Should I save up for a decent board?
What's your budget? Maybe I can do some searching for you. If you can wait, I'd definitely try to save up more and get a better board. Unless you have no idea if you'll even like longboarding/ sticking with it longterm
@@concrete-waves I’ve gotten into skateboarding last school yr! And then I got my first longboard this past summer and it’s been a blast. But there’s a few problems with my board & I know I’ll need a new one eventually. I watched your other video abt the board size guide, and I think freestyle is the best choice for me. I want to be able to do tricks & dance a bit
That's exactly what I was thinking. Or maybe just the other setup with the 130mm trucks (maybe not as agile as 105s but probably still better than 155s)
I'm not sure about putting 105s on the ripper deck (those might be too small). If you want the ripper deck but more agility, I'd recommend the 130s (Setup 1). But then you're sacrificing some stability
Hope someone can help me... I'm a beginner and I got a Switchblade because it's stable and low to the ground, thinking that would be a nice board to cruise and have some fun, but I think it’s way too stiff for me. I’m from Mexico and the streets are full of cracks, potholes and rough pavement. What would be a better option for me considering that i just want to cruise around, and maybe learn to do some slides to kinda slow down and break? The Ripper, the Dipper, a Drop Cat or the Drop Hammer? Or maybe even try other wheels for the Switchblade?
I have a switchblade, dinghy, tugboat, and rallycat. My favorite one for your road condition, in my opinion, is the dinghy, it's nimble and fun as hell, you can also learn to slide with it, but the road should be in good condition, I would avoid slide over cracks... I have panda pender dinghy with 63 fatty hawg. I rode a dinghy coffin of my friend and that also a good option.
I want to buy a longboard, i am between landyachtz ripper and loaded's tan tien. Since I am going to be using it mostly in City on streets and kinda narrow and rough sidewalks I feel like the ripper with fatty hawgs might be better since it has more flex and smaller trucks making it more nimble and responsive, but I also think that tan tien overall quality is hard to ignore. And his bigger deck and wheels for sure make it better for longer rides and rougher terrain. Does anyone have tried any of these boards and/or have any advice on what should I buy? Thanks in advance
Been waiting for the review on these boards. Great job man! I have a little question though, you said you got both the boards from landyachtz but you didn't mention whether they allowed you to say whatever you wanted about it.......
Thanks man! We weren't paid and we always clarify that we're gonna share our honest thoughts regardless if they send it to us for free. I just didn't mention it in the video because I wanted to keep it concise
Ey dude, would you consider doing an "hybrid"-class decks video? or one about longboards configurations? I mean, idk why would a 36" dropthorugh cutout deck be more "freeride-ish" than, for example, than a 33" topmount + tail "cruiser". like, idk why would an original apex 37 differ a lot from an omakase for commuting, sliding, doing the common longboard-tricks...
Awesome ideas, thanks. I'd love to do a video where I cover custom setups... maybe not specifically like the ones you mentioned but I can see that being really helpful. Anyway... thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely consider it

Picked up the dipper, flipped the cup washers and it really came to life. Much more surfy and fun to ride. Also, no wheel bite.
which setup did you pick?
@@josearmas1511 I have the 105mm polar bears with the 60mm fatty hawgs.

Did you have to increase the size of the riser pads to make space for the 70mm wheels ?
