This year I got both my bike and car license in Chiang Mai. The paperwork process was easy enough. Just sitting around was the hardest part. The car license was given after watching a short video. I didn’t hold a full bike license in my country so I had to sit a 50 question theory test - pass was 46 or more correct - followed by a short ride around a track as a group in single file. Again pretty easy. Whole process cost me around 500 baht. And the license is valid 2 years. And in order to renew my licenses I only have to complete paperwork and watch a short video.
Peter, I'm not sure why people use agents. All of the information is available online in English. When I went I showed my British bike and car license and went to do the colour blind and braking test, watched a ten minute video and it cost me 205 baht. Visas, you can do yourself cheaply and easily, driving license the same. My one year multiple entry visa costs me 3800 baht so less than 4K for my driving license and visa. It took me no time and cost me less than £100.
I'm not sure why people buy 20 baht packs of noodles from 7-Eleven rather than go out to eat in a decent restaurant so I guess it's kind of similar cheers

This is the process for people that already have an international license (endorsed for motorbikes), which I would think most people do not have. If you don't have that, you do have to do much more including taking a 50 question written test (which many people do not pass the first time) and a driving test (which most people pass, but some do fail the elevated bit). Is there only 1 license to cover all size bikes? do they have a big bike license (400cc+)? Im from the UK as well and my driving license was issued before 2001 which means I automatically have a CBT license. If I have this (plus the temporary international license) can I have it transferred to a Thai license to cover big bikes without having to take any tests? Im also gonna be on the ED Visa, is that sufficient to get a Thai license? Do I just need to get a residence certificate, is that easy enough? Thanks.
You cannot simply transfer a license without any tests. For instance if you don't have an endorsement to ride a motorcycle in your own country you would have to take the full motorcycle test like the Thais do however, if you go to the post office and get an international licence that shows you can ride a motorcycle in your own country then you can exchange that for a Thai motorcycle license however you will still have to go to a test center and take two simple tests the first being a color test and the second being a reaction test other than that the process is quite simple. Personally I would use an agent it just makes it easier and it's not that expensive.
Thanks and there are no restrictions on the size of the bike? they announced they were going to bring in a big bike license a few years ago but I cant see that it went ahead. Can a simple CBT license be enough for all bikes? @@ThailandBound

Exactly the same, if you go for the test you might as well get both licenses at the same time because if you change your mind later you'll have to go through the whole rigmarole again
I've given the price of the licenses on the video I can't discuss prices for the Visas as Lana has asked me to keep that to myself because of her competition if you want to know the prices please contact her directly and she will tell you
I'm not sure what your question means but basically the light test is to show that you can distinguish between colors in other words you're not color blind
I think today (2024) we all need to take and pass the 50 question theory test even with a valid international drivers license, to "exchange" our national driving license for a car with a Thai driving license ?

Hi Peter, I've been here just over 3 months and now have extended my non o retirement visa and about to apply for my Thai driving license....I have my international license.....did you not have to do a theory test ?.... I've heard others say this is part of the test ?
Peter, I'm only interested in the motorcycle license. Are the car and motorcycle tests the same or are they different?
Exactly the same, if you go for the test you might as well get both licenses at the same time because if you change your mind later you'll have to go through the whole rigmarole again
Did you have to first secure a long term residence (lease) so you had an address to put on your license or did you use the hotel's address?
I used the agent's address
Peter,
What was the total cost of everything service and the licensing fees?
I've given the price of the licenses on the video I can't discuss prices for the Visas as Lana has asked me to keep that to myself because of her competition if you want to know the prices please contact her directly and she will tell you
Can u get a licence on a tourist visa
No
How did you get an agent?
I looked for one then found one sorry don't really understand the question
You mean the eye test is just a light awareness light, not reading little letters and numbers
I'm not sure what your question means but basically the light test is to show that you can distinguish between colors in other words you're not color blind
Once this is done can l ride you any cc bike now???? l can only ride a 125cc in the UK
Any
Yes
@@ThailandBound wow, many thanks indeed. Always jealous of guys on bigger scooters
So if your married to a Thai woman and she owns a house can the husband get a DL? without the retirement Visa?
You need some form of visa that is not tourist exempt on entry.
@@techthehome7167 thanks...I think I can get one for being married...especially since it's been 27 Long years 🤣🤣
.
Did you already have a UK motorbike licence that you did not actually have to drive a motorbike for the motorbike licence?
Yes I have a full unrestricted motorcycle license in the UK and this has been endorsed onto my International driving license
Thanks Peter how much?
Better you watch the video I've stated the prices in that video
I did the same as you, used an agent, cost 5000bht
That's a great price for one license but I got two
I think today (2024) we all need to take and pass the 50 question theory test even with a valid international drivers license, to "exchange" our national driving license for a car with a Thai driving license ?
No that's not true if you've got an international driving permit you just simply need to do a reaction test and a color test that's it you only do the 50 questions if you don't have a motorcycle license in your own country
@@ThailandBound I have time there tomorrow (Wednesday at 9.00), i was there Monday (19/2-24) and the worker told me that i must show up on 21/2-24 with copies of my national driverlicense, the international, and my passport, and that i must go get a medical certificate (did cost me 100 bath) and also that i must go to my local immigreation in my case and say i need a drivers license and they did stamp a document i got in no time ( that did cost me 300 bath, i cut get it free if i wanna wait 3 days) and then i came home and did google this topic about "how to get a Thai driverlicense" and i got a shock 😆 as it does not make sense to me that I have to pass my driver's license twice (one time in the past in my national country and then again now in Thailand) but i hope you are correct 🙏😅 and thank you for sharing this 🙂
You haven’t mentioned which town or city you’re going to get your driving license from, but all I can tell you is based on my experience year last year. I took an international driver’s license with me. All they wanted me to do was a reaction test and a colour test, that was it and I got both my licenses.
@@ThailandBound I go to Kamphaeng Phet, and btw the worker did mention to another worker next to her, that if come with tourist visa can not get a Thai driving license and the visa angency i use (located in BKK) she told that if i take in BKK will it take 6 to 8 hours, but then again we not did talk about the international driving license and that agency not work helping about driving license , so i think she just did talk about how a Thai do about this topic
You can open a bank account on a tourist visa if you use Thai legal protection services
Peter can you give us the price for your Visa and open the the bank account At Lanas place
No unfortunately I can't give prices for Lana's business as she's asked me not to do to her competitors you would need to speak to her directly and ask her
@@ThailandBound Ok no problem Peter have a great weekend
Normally you have to take the reaction and color test and then a one hour video.
I renewed my motorcycle and car license for 5 years in May.
Very easy and very cheap.
It didn't take long time here in Aoluk -Krabi. No reason to pay an agent.
I am in udon thani just for a few weeks before i come back to pattaya my licence had run out and i went to re-new but got turned down they said i would have to do a 5 hour test including a 60 questions i had seen these questions and how the hell thai people are going to pass this god knows even i did not know some of the questions about thai law its hell. so may go for a agent in pattaya
Yes if you renew your current license and don't let it expire you won't have to do this you just simply renew... obviously it's too late for you now but my agent didn't warn me about this and said if I didn't want a nightmare headache I should renew rather than let expire which I'll do
It has been awhile 🙂 but did forget to tell you that the worker said to me, that next time when i did need to renew my Thai driver license, then i must at the same time also take the theory test .... but i think you are going to renew your Thai driver license before i am 😅 so please let me (us here on youtube) know how that did go for you 🙏🙂
You only need to do the theory test if you haven't already got a license in your own country
@@ThailandBound I have my national (Danish) driver license with me to Thailand, but still the worker said when i am going to renew my Thai driver license after 2 years i must take the theory test 🤔 but you are going to renew your driver license before it is my turn and if you not need to take the theory test then maybe it is time for me to find another place to renew my driver license when that day arrive 😅 Thanks for your reply and let me know how it did go when that day come and you must renew your driver license 🙏🙂
I recommend one stop Visa, Soi 6, Pattaya
I'd drive a small Suzuki in Thailand 🇹🇭 but never a scooter 555
I can safely say that registering. a lost Chanote is more difficult. Amazed to see typewriters still in use at Land office🤣. Process time 7 months. The Thai phobia of allowing proven foreign e- commerce systems, rather than their own version to be put in place will always make anything like this drawn out. At least 90 day online reporting works now..Slowly getting there!
It’s “Pattaaa Ya! Not “Pataiiiiya” Peter!!!
It's unbelievable that you've actually left this comment... as always please contact my refunds Department if you're not entirely satisfied with my content... come on for Christ's sake who gives a shit you actually leave a comment like this
