I'm not saying he's not fit or even capable of travelling 13 miles in 2 hours, but with those small steps and inability to move well, 13 miles is a heavy exaggeration if you consider it for a moment. 9 minute mile pace is doable for somewhat active people, 9 minute mile pace for 13 miles is much more intense and usually is done by people who run and train often. Again, I wouldn't be surprised if Thrill could run 13 miles in 2 hours on an actual treadmill or a road race, but not with the small steps and shuffle like movement that's done on the Kat Walk C. 13 miles is a heavy, heavy exaggeration. 8 miles is a much more reasonable estimation, maybe a bit less.

@@shojo8708 have they figured out a work around for the delay when you stop moving though? I remember that being a pretty big issue with the moving floor vr treadmills
This looked insanely difficult, great job! I think it would be cool to try a version on a manual curved treadmill (holding on for support, turning with joystick) and step tracking on the feet somehow. Also would love stuff with biking, rowing, etc.
Have you tried the boxing games? for me they likely had they same effect of being physically immersed and having a more immersive effect. it was amazing
Exerting yourself in VR really does make a huge difference in immersion. A lot of the "magic" of using VR (including any nausea) wore off for me after just a few weeks, but it can still come back if I'm doing something that gets me worn out. For example, my brain doesn't get scared of heights in VR very easily anymore, but if I play the Climb 2 long enough, I will start to get that dizzy, yucky feeling again when looking down.
The future of gamers is going to look very buff and healthy if VR works out at a reasonable price. I look forward to the first melee VR game that is fully immersive so I can do all the fun stuff that I have learned at full speed and without worry of hurting the other person.
This should be THE stress test for all future vr treadmills. Tests both LONG stretches of use. Intense extreme angles and friction on all surfaces! GREAT job and Great test!
It's always amazing to see how far you've come Thrill. Bro i had to comment on this vid. You are a frickin trooper. The entire map running on that. Wow. And everything you experienced on that journey. Excellent.
@@lmoa3917 Was just about to comment this. I believe that you are correct, which is why this product is pretty cool sense devs don’t need to spend time patching or upgrading there games to work with the tech.
Things I took away from this video: 1. Skyrim VR with this level of tech is amazing 2. VR and fitness will merge into one product someday 3. We now live in a society where people think it's necessary to blur someone's face on camera if they're not wearing a mask as if they were showing their privates. That kinda shit devolves humanity.
I tried out the natural locomotion demo a while ago and it was amazing to be able to just walk/run, and actually move in game, I just wish that my feet could actually slide properly at lower speeds. At higher speeds I can induce the sliding motion on purpose fairly easily. I'll probably go ahead and buy it at some point so that I can have more than 10 minutes at a time unless I can get OpenVR WIP to work properly
@@CondemnedToBeMe That makes sense, I didn't actually realize that it used the direction the trackers face to figure that out. For me it is the best way that I can really do it though, because I don't currently have a full body setup that would work well. I'm a competitive distance runner IRL -- 34 10k, 16s 5k 70mpw -- I think that vr jogging is like hiking in terms of difficulty. Still a great way to burn calories and get some easy aerobics in.
Next marathon should be in No Mans Sky VR. Find a small moon and run all the way around the equator. Set up base camps along the way to track your progress so you can log on and off without losing progress
As a cross country runner I am incredibly jealous Edit: after reading the description and learning that this is 13 miles I am less jealous now. Still wanna be able to run in vr though.
Can I just point out that he did this while wearing a mouth mask? That makes this kinda extra impressive. People do that as a special kind of training since it cuts down on the oxygen supply.
That way of walking/running looks like murder on the knees. People really underestimate how easy it is to dislocate a knee, all you need to do is step with your foot at a slightly wrong angle. Honestly the way these omni directional treadmills force your feet to be at angles and force your legs to take awkward, abnormal steps, is really gonna hurt somebody sometime soon.
0:28 dude it wasn't necessary to blur out your face just because you weren't wearing a mask, the thought about people running around with these masks on is ridiculous, for real this whole covid has people totally freaked out, i get why the editor might have felt like it would be a good idea to blur it out since in some parts of the world it's punishable to not wear a mask but that just proves how bizarre and ridiculous everything's gotten. i'll jump back into my fox hole and take cover from all the sheeps that are gonna yell at me because i'm a grandma killer for saying this assumably.
The reason he wears a mask on video is not because of protection from COVID. He wears it as a separation between reality and VR. In VR he can be who he wants to be, in reality he can only be who he is. The mask allows him to more personify his VR self in "live action" video. Also wearing a mask indoors around others is precisely where you want to be wearing one. In fact the place you are most likely to catch COVID is in your home, because you are not wearing a mask around your family members.
Ooh, i'll probably buy it in the future. I probably wouldn't even complete quests, i would just nicely travel around in slow pace, observing the beauty of Skyrim.
I think Jacob Geller had a really good point in his video about objects, Half Life Alyx was so immersive because of the intimacy of you yourself picking up an object and holding it. I think the more we can make vr become even more intimate, and closer to normality then we will have a true escape… a place to get fit as well
A Township Tale That game is a 100% indescribable. I never got far on it but if I was to play that every weekend I would do nothing but play that game.
Glad someone explained the experience of VR pushing you thru otherwise overbearing physical tasks. Ig it's kind of like water aerobics, being at work with headphones in, or like those old PC spelling games for kids lmao, just distractions to keep the mind off of physical stimuli as to strengthen endurance.
Fascinating experiment. And a nice display of how warped the scale of the game world is compared to the real world. 22 miles is less than a marathon (btw good on you Thrill, to be able to run a near marathon just like that). Just google pictures of the route of the New York Marathon or whatever city you're familiar with. It's not a huge area that is being covered. Skyrim claims to have huge cities and waring factions and old ruins. But in truth, you'd need that much area just to grow crops to sustain a single village. It's fascinating to me, how vast the discrepancy is here.

The amount of immersion you could get from this would feel amazing. Like the feeling you get when you first put on a VR headset. I honestly can't wait for the day that I finally feel that feeling again.

You should try this with a real running treadmill. The turning might become difficult but the running experience and wearout should be a lot better. Great video btw, really thinking about upgrading my stuff:)
Having his unmasked face blurred is the FUNNIEST THING I've seen today!!🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
we need an omni treadmill that detects the angle your traveling at and changing the angle of the treadmill depending on that
@@shojo8708 have they figured out a work around for the delay when you stop moving though? I remember that being a pretty big issue with the moving floor vr treadmills
Runners high is absolutely real. I experienced it in cross country in middle school before I even knew what being high was.
Now THATS a workout
I can appreciate the background music, Skyrim has always had a great soundtrack and a relaxing sense to it.
I would love to experience the running high in vr.
This looked insanely difficult, great job! I think it would be cool to try a version on a manual curved treadmill (holding on for support, turning with joystick) and step tracking on the feet somehow. Also would love stuff with biking, rowing, etc.
Friend of mine did this exact thing as a workout, looks hella fun!
Have you tried the boxing games? for me they likely had they same effect of being physically immersed and having a more immersive effect. it was amazing
oh and you dont need the omni directional treadmill because the boxing ring is the size of your play space
Man it's crazy he kept the mask on while working out, in VR. I could never deal with that combo! Very impressive.
That's just dumb to limit oxygen consumption while working out
It’s no crazy, its completely fucking stupid!
Thank you for confirming my suspicions about the knee damage from the awkward running form.
My boyfriend is a runner and when I showed him this he just said "Fat respect to that man". Love the content!
The future of gamers is going to look very buff and healthy if VR works out at a reasonable price. I look forward to the first melee VR game that is fully immersive so I can do all the fun stuff that I have learned at full speed and without worry of hurting the other person.
What a workout! I cannot even imagine this, especially because the walking is weird.
This should be THE stress test for all future vr treadmills. Tests both LONG stretches of use. Intense extreme angles and friction on all surfaces! GREAT job and Great test!
Alternate title: "I ran across the entirety of Skyrim and achieved VR CHIM"
It's always amazing to see how far you've come Thrill. From one year to another, you moved, made YT your job, made a hit with a haptic suit video and now you fucking ran like 13 miles within VR with a Treadmill.
You've really come a long way (quite literally this time).
And I'm proud to be part of this journey.
Hope to see you achieve even bigger goals in the future my guy.
Much love
Can't wait for "running the entire Minecraft map in VR" 😁
We might not be seeing an upload for awhile then...
What
Bro i had to comment on this vid. You are a frickin trooper. The entire map running on that. Wow. And everything you experienced on that journey. Excellent.
this makes me think: maybe we should add omni directional treadmill support to the Breath of the Wild in VR project
I think Kat products work with any game that has smooth stick locomotion
@@lmoa3917 hm ok - awesome then!
the BOTW VR project is just VR Chat right? i'm pretty sure VR Chat supports katwalk already
@@DPZmusic No, a separate project that's actually botw in vr, via cemu and dll injection
@@lmoa3917 Was just about to comment this. I believe that you are correct, which is why this product is pretty cool sense devs don’t need to spend time patching or upgrading there games to work with the tech.
48 hour challenge living in vr with this thing! That would be insane to watch and even more insane to do lol
Things I took away from this video:
1. Skyrim VR with this level of tech is amazing
2. VR and fitness will merge into one product someday
3. We now live in a society where people think it's necessary to blur someone's face on camera if they're not wearing a mask as if they were showing their privates. That kinda shit devolves humanity.
Mask crap is getting so retarded.
"wanting to retain some of your own privacy devolves humanity" lmao okay
@@voxybuns It's his face wtf?
Thank you for creating this, and being so honest. It was amazing to watch!
Nalo with Vive feet trackers is amazing!
@@CondemnedToBeMe I was going to try it with some joycons soon to see how that is
@@adicsbtw I don't know if it is the same thing. With Vive trackers you walk the way your feet are facing
@@CondemnedToBeMe That makes sense, I didn't actually realize that it used the direction the trackers face to figure that out. For me it is the best way that I can really do it though, because I don't currently have a full body setup that would work well. Eventually I am going to make some SlimeVR trackers, and I will try it with that, but until then that is the best I can do
Thank you for pushing the limits of VR with every video, thank you for keeping the future of VR exciting!
*5 years later* “I ran across earth 3 times
In the meantime, his next video could be, "I just ran across an actual continent in Google Earth VR." :)
I'm a competitive distance runner IRL -- 34 10k, 16s 5k 70mpw -- I think that vr jogging is like hiking in terms of difficulty. Still a great way to burn calories and get some easy aerobics in.
Up next: running acrost Minecrafts infinite world
"I'll be running 13 miles"
Me:??? converts it to 21 km, now that's far
lol I did not realize that he censors his mouth until now
Probably why he always wears a mask still too. Maybe he's ugly.
@@Gawillamon he’s most likely not comfortable showing his face,
Wearing a mask when no one is around. Blur his face.. paint his fingernails… dude what’s going on ?
@@stonegate2006 what does painting fingernails have to do with it?
@@NithinJune its obviously just as abnormal for a man to have painted nails as it is for a youtuber to blur his face or wear a mask in his videos.
Next marathon should be in No Mans Sky VR. Find a small moon and run all the way around the equator. Set up base camps along the way to track your progress so you can log on and off without losing progress
The useless mask combined with the vr goggles really sums up the dystopia we are heading into.
He wearing it I think because he’s scared of everyone know who he is? It’s weird
If only i didn`t got hit by that arrow back in my days. I would have run that marathon myself.
As a cross country runner I am incredibly jealous
Edit: after reading the description and learning that this is 13 miles I am less jealous now. Still wanna be able to run in vr though.
Can I just point out that he did this while wearing a mouth mask? That makes this kinda extra impressive. People do that as a special kind of training since it cuts down on the oxygen supply.
“I put it through hell and it still works” you did it to yourself too, but are you fine?
That way of walking/running looks like murder on the knees. People really underestimate how easy it is to dislocate a knee, all you need to do is step with your foot at a slightly wrong angle. Honestly the way these omni directional treadmills force your feet to be at angles and force your legs to take awkward, abnormal steps, is really gonna hurt somebody sometime soon.
(algorithm comment, move along)
Dude I just got back from a 27-mile 2-3 day hike irl and it was terrible. Can't imagine how difficult doing it in VR would be xD
I felt the same way and was looking for comments that noticed this. They are indoors!
@@AdityaPrasad007 yeah it's crazy right? some places they want to force people to wear mask indoors *sigh*
Dude wears a mask for privacy reasons, what were you on about, lmao.
@@JVLY Anti-maskers are a combination of stupid and mentally ill, so no wonder so many of them don't understand why he would blur his face.
This man ran across Skyrim and didn’t even turn aggro off!! Now that’s a true hero
Nice and subtle lo-fi Skyrim music. Really nice touch
@thrillseeker I think you are a pioneer in VR and these challenges you create are very informative for the future of vr. Thanks for your effort.
Ooh, i'll probably buy it in the future. I probably wouldn't even complete quests, i would just nicely travel around in slow pace, observing the beauty of Skyrim.
actually really good to see the cheap shoe material wore down quickly rather than wearing out the very expensive platform.
I think Jacob Geller had a really good point in his video about objects, Half Life Alyx was so immersive because of the intimacy of you yourself picking up an object and holding it. I think the more we can make vr become even more intimate, and closer to normality then we will have a true escape… a place to get fit as well
A Township Tale
That game is a 100% indescribable. I never got far on it but if I was to play that every weekend I would do nothing but play that game.
Super cool video, so happy to be a new subscriber!
The continent is Tamriel. :) Skyrim is just a 9th of the continent.
But still cool video.
These VR Omni Direction Treadmills look awesome. Just even more stuff to immerse ourselves in games, and I can't wait to try one.
Massive MASSIVE props to you Thrill for taking this endeavor as big project. Excellent video for a tremendous amount of work.
You should do it triple masked this time. Its easier this way, more oxygen. Lol
@ThrillSeeker you have inspired me to buy some slime VR body trackers I’m so excited to buy them even though I don’t have much room in our house (like a big open area) I’m still excited to dance in VR chat mess around in GMOD VR and make motion capture animations in blender you have definitely inspired me to get into VR and I just wanted to say thank you so much
A... great video... B. i died laughing when you blurred your face due to no mask
The amount of immersion you could get from this would feel amazing. Like the feeling you get when you first put on a VR headset. I honestly can't wait for the day that I finally feel that feeling again.
I had a similar experience in Pistol Whip playing through the whole cyber punk campaign in one go. My legs were giving out from all the lunging and squaring I was doing but I was sucked in so far I didn’t care and it heightened the experience to a level I wasn’t expecting and am still chasing.
