I don't really have a work environment at home. Like, I don't have people who I can see working/ studying and get motivated. But these videos made by you Thomas, are so damn motivating. They get me to work every single time I'm procrastinating.
Thomas I have been a big fan of yours for long time; and I'm a mature lady from the UK so thank you so much for now recognising that we are never too old to learn.
Some great advice and an informative video. Love how he makes a big idea simple to understand. Love how to adult and must say this is one of the top guest related videos I have seen!
I wanna shout out to everyone on the UA-cam community to subscribe to his channel... he is very unique in explaining certain concepts and I love how he uses examples or phrases said by famous philosophers to convey how important a thing is to you!
I think this channel is for like you 20 something year olds. So perfect for you. like fresh out of college. But I love these videos cuz its like preparing for the "real world"
I love learning by doing! just built a pizza oven, I skimmed a book watched a few video and decided to give it a go! one day I want to build a house! like your chunks build something small, then get bigger and read books and learn as i need to know stuff .then a house.
I am familiar with every concept you described. Thanx for helping me with my edutainment curriculum development. the first 20houes I have already watched, and understand. Thanx again
Really interesting video Thomas Frank The notion that being interested in what you are trying to learn seems to be way more important than a lot of people realize. I would argue that this is one of the main reasons why people switch out of Engineering as a major. A lot of people believe it's because it's difficult but when it gets to such a granular level that the big picture of rockets, solar cells, and robots is lost, can you blame them for losing interest? I'm definitely subscribing to this channel! These other videos are the bomb.
Holy cow, I only discovered the podcast Listen Money Matters (which Thomas co-hosts) about a month ago, and when I started this video, I thought, "Wait, that voice sounds familiar..." Great episode! (And a great podcast!)
Omg Thomas frank!!!!! I love that guy!! Subscribed him from the start xD helped me from a really unorganized to a well organized and a studius student :D
***** agreed! I wanted to compare Kaufman's process with Ferriss' two skill acquisition frameworks, but I had to cut them to keep the video's length reasonable.
wow :D this was really helpful and especially because I want to go into web design yet had like noo idea how go about it, thanks for the advice Thomas Frank :)
Barbara Oakley has a free class on Coursera about learning how to learn. It covers a lot more of this video's material more in-depth and has interviews with people who have used similar techniques to accomplish a lot. I learned a ton of useful methods and techniques for learning. Would highly recommend looking into taking it!
I don't agree that it is enough to just walk away if you are stuck on a specific skill. best thing to do is find someone (perhaps a friend) who already has mastered it who you can practice it with and can help you.
Thomas Frank Do you have links to the research about neurotransmitters that you mentioned at 2:30? I'd never heard before that they tell your brain how important the information it's transmitting is and I want to learn more!
+whimsicalnerd the specific wording about neurotransmitters transmitting information about importance is something I learned from the "Learning How to Learn" course on Coursera - specifically, Dr. Terrence Sejknoski's video called "What Motivates You?" I've done a little extra learning since then, so here's my current understanding. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that jump synapse gaps in order to transmit information between neurons. Glutamate is the most abundant neurotransmitter, and it's the vessel for most of the actual "information" that gets transmitted. Other neurotransmitters are considered "modulators", and these include chemicals like dopamine and serotonin. These are the neurotransmitters I referred to in the video. After I do some more research, I'm going to do a video (or maybe a series) on neurotransmitters on my channel :)
Dr Barbara Oakley and Dr Terry Sejnowski teach a free online course at Coursera called 'Learning How to Learn'.. basic, easy to follow and at the same time very helpful if you find you cant seem to learn new things adequately
How can you encourage people to learn skateboarding without wearing pads, or even a helmet? That's very irresponsible. Step #1 at 4:20 should have been "put on a helmet!"
Elbow pads are the most important, head injuries on flat ground are actually quite rare, in fact it's hard to fall in a way in which you won't involuntarily catch yourself, but I've landed on my elbows more times than I can remember, and it's never a good feeling.
Reading waaaay too much into the video. Did you get in trouble for going over your 5 minutes, Thomas? Lol Love the video, you're great, and keep it up!
This is a great episode! I just found Thomas the other day and I think his style is perfect for How To Adult! Some great advice here!
NerdyMay thanks!

The light reflections in the eyes and slight side to side motions were mesmerizing...
I also really liked the breakdown of the steps to learning!

is it weird that im 18 and love this
I'm confused, do you think that's too old or too young for this video? I think 18 is the perfect age for this (I'm 24).

That dopamine hit when you hear the how to adult theme tune for the first time in years. God I missed it
Boyinaband I think what he says in this video would apply to your "Don't Stay in School" music video and project.
