  • Please join me as I take my Liberty of London fabric scraps and make a gorgeous piece of fabric to use in any sewing project. I add Organza Tulle to this fabric to make it more durable and to add a fancy flair. Here I make a small collapsable sewing basket for many uses. These are great for keeping sewing notions and crochet organized. Relax into your stitching to create artsy textiles. Reduce and reuse your fabric scraps. Shout out to Spencer Ogg's youtube channel for her great oragami folding pattern. Have fun!!

“I could make that!…..I don’t know how to crochet!” This cracked me up… too relatable. Plus starting with the micro yarn. This is the kind of maker I am too, and I don’t know why I do this to myself!!

      Right?!?😂
Like just because I have been a maker for close to 40 years I should be able to jump right in? Jump right in to make myself absolutely bonkers. It is good for me to get put in my place I guess 🤣😂🤣
Nice to know I am not alone. 💕 Thanks!

It is quite a lovely (thread crochet) necklace, and the little baskets are very handy. As an experienced crocheter but only a sewing dabbler I'd first see those long skinny straps as suitable for crochet! 😏Tied together, or perhaps sewn with a zig-zag stitch into a tape that would be a really fun, premium crochet supply. I also think I have * ideas * for organza with crochet projects.

I’m so excited!!! You should see how cute my little basket turned out following your instructions in this video! I used different shades of purple fabric strip scraps and straight stitched them all down. Then I decided to couch a variegated thin decorative yarn all over the outside piece, sort of geometric boxy design like you would in a quilt design. I used the same fusible fleece as you used for the front. for the Lining I used Pellon 808 that I have in my stash. I don’t have an industrial type sewing machine, so I used the reinforced straight stitch on my Viking and it went very smoothly over the thick areas. Love how it turned out, I think I need to make about 5 or 6 more! They will all be different. Thank you so much for showing me how to make the collapsible style bag!

Oh my gosh your baskets are simply gorgeous!! And your instructions made sense to me, something that seldom happens with sewing lol.
Like others, “I could make that…” comes out of my mouth often, except with sewing…then I look, say “dang, I wish I knew how to do that” lol but even those things inspire me to do other things. I have been crocheting since the age of 5, but learned to knit a few years ago using UA-cam videos (to make things for preemies, micro preemies and angels, those babies who pass before or soon after birth). So I am now on a quest to learn to sew. Your baskets have inspired me to try as we have just bought our dream home up in the Highlands in the middle of nowhere. For the first time I will have a proper craft room and I want it usable but pretty, with lots of texture, colour and tactile things in it. Your baskets are just PERFECT!
Now for crocheting, and seeing your love of colour, if you are comfortable with single crochet and double crochet, I highly recommend that you look into mosaic crochet. It looks like it was really complicated when you are finished, but it is so easy and just those two stitches. It is different in that you doing chain and turn, you complete one row (for the flat)and cut the yarn, before going back to the start and making the next row. It sounds more complicated than it is. Here is the designer who got me hooked (no pun intended lol). If you like her work, check out her coin bags and easily attaching the zippers. I suspect you could even make your lined collapsible baskets in the crochet. If your eyes are really good and you have a bright area to work in, you could even use very fine crochet thread or cotton lace yarn to crochet a tight fabric. Using a variegated yarn or thread with another skein of solid colour works magically. There are many other designers doing mosaic crochet tutorials but Tinna’s work is just incredible and she is down to earth and has an infectious attitude like yours.
I grew up in Vermont but now live in Scotland (my little brother kept calling me a flatlander until he and his wife (my best friend) came to visit lol, he hung his head and mumbled that he might be the flatlander compared to me now but I was still a foreigner lol). I am fortunate to go home to visit at least once a year and VT will always be home. I even, dare I say it, miss snow. Shh, my mother always said that was the dirtiest four letter word in the English language lol. As I do get home regularly, I wanted to ask do you sell your work at craft shows or do you have a physical shop? If so, where abouts are you selling? I will make a point of coming and buying a few things including a few baskets (hubby will be thrilled it is not yarn lol as earlier this year I came home with two suitcases filled (vacuum packed) with yarn. I crochet, knit, tat, an make wire wrapped jewellery which I sell at craft markets. Your work is just too beautiful to pass by!
Thanks so much for your inspiring video, I am now a subscriber and look forward to watching your videos and drooling over the end results 😆!

@@Reignvermont oh cool, you are about an hour and a half from where I grew up, in Ludlow. I went to college at Vt Tech in Randolph. Good luck with your Market, I hope the sales are thick and fast for you! I will definitely be by to shop when I am home next and to say hi. My Nephew and his wife are normally at Waitsfield Farmers Market (they live in Enosburg Falls, they own Of Lace and Maille. April tats and makes beautiful lace and her husband Levi makes chain maille.
At the moment we live just outside Perth, Scotland but just bought our retirement home on the west coast up between Poolewe and Ullapool. It is such a spectacular area. What part of Scotland did you visit? It is such a beautiful country! If I can’t live in VT, Scotland is a great substitute lol. If you ever make it to Scotland again, give me a shout and we can meet up. If we have not yet moved up to the new house, I would be happy to loan it out to you, right on a sea loch, dolphins and porpoise as well as golden eagles and sea eagles hunt in the loch that you can watch from the deck and even the livingroom. It is a 5 bedroom home and while we have a rocky beach, less than half a mile down a back road is a beautiful sandy beach. Best of luck today, hope there is a big turnout with many sales for you and the other Sellers! 💖
