You are 100% spot on about being rubbed the wrong way with how Ring controls the software. I am sick and tired of having a subscription for every we use in life now and even if its “cheap” it’s still annoying and a rotational expense that will add up over time. Subscribe to use apps in your car now, some appliances, cameras, UA-cam, Amazon, subscriptions inside of subscriptions and so forth. Anyway, I am at the end of the “free” trial and immediately the false alerts flooded in…very dirty way to run a business.
We have the Nest Doorbell Cam, with a subscription. It's not too expensive if you pay per year, and it works well. Video quality is good, it can recognize people and packages as well as recognize if a package was removed. Hooks up to a regular doorbell and plays over our Google home speakers. Plus it's quite a bit smaller than the ring, so it looks nice and it was pretty easy to install. It does have some extra ring tones that play on the doorbell itself and the Google speakers. Overall we're happy with it.
I’ve got the Logitech Circle View wired doorbell. It’s hooked up to a regular chime, and works with HomeKit Secure Video. The night-time color and resolution is pretty amazing. Ring was a no-go for me after employees were caught spying on people through the Ring doorbell.
We had the very same experience you did with the nerfing and sending false alarms/rings. Most annoying!! Our rings were not non-stop, they came about every 10-15 minutes.
Great review !! So helpful & informative !! Off topic, if you could or would kindly share 3 things: 1.What camera or video recorder model did you use to compose this review?? Nikon, Sony, Canon, Panasonic, etc. 2.What video software editing program did you use to edit? Final cut, Adobe, etc. 3.Finally, what kind of computer? PC (model) or Mac (model) Why? Because I did a couple reviews on some items and I can't edit them because my computer is too old for the software program. Also, your video is filled with all kinds of edits and put together really well !! If you want to share, that would be totally cool, if not, I would understand:)
The screwdriver looks like a standard tamper-resistant Torx, which is readily available at most hardware stores. Hopefully the batteries aren’t expensive, or else thefts could become common.
I've been using ring for almost a year now, I'm paying 6.99$ a month i think for two cameras. I use face recognition settings only and that always works. I also hard-wired it to my doorbell, so that I don't need to buy their doorbell and then there's also no battery charging either. I wish it was free, but I got it on sale for $99 so I think it pretty good price for that piece of mind. I'd love to see if you can find something better and cheaper as I need to buy at least two more cameras soon.
would be a waste of money to get a different brand of cameras because they might have subscriptions as well or doorbell cameras only subscription based
We switched from the Ring to the Nest Hello and it's 1000x better. Faster, better custom zones, people and sound detection so you won't get false motion notification from like a cat or large truck driving by...you can set it to all motion or just people which is great. And very high quality scrubbing so you can easily just scroll through the whole day of what it saw, filter for just people, just sounds, etc. You can also train it for faces so when it sees someone it recognizes it'll tell you, like "Mike is at the door". The auto-replies are great for when you don't want to say anything for a solicitor or when a package is getting delivered and you just want them to leave it there. It even has Package recognition and will notify you if it sees a box etc left in view. So many good features compared to Ring.
I had similar experience with ring. Unfortunately I've already invested into the eco system, with its home security. Camera quality is low resolution, compared to others for similar pricing. I hope they up there quality given the price they charging us. Come on Ring! You can do better!😑
I've had this ring for a few years now and before I guess I was on a trial but I didn't really pay that close attention I was able to set things up and it worked pretty well but the only reason that I decided to have a ring were to actually be able to see someone at my door due to the fact I live in an apartment and if I look out of the people I see no one until I step outside my door then that's a person standing at my door which make me really freaked out about what their attentions would have been but in the meantime I went on and subscribe the yearly fee then after I had things start to not work quite as well as it did when I was on a trial so with that being said I will be notified when people pass my door but then on the other hand they can pass my door and it shows no one moving the other thing that I was not happy about was the fact that I never get like email saying that you have a payment coming out or text or anything what's that was the second attempt I did that twice so with that I unsubscribe due to the fact that they went in my account before my money was there and took the money out then Plus $20 insufficient funds and yes there were insufficient funds because my money had not cleared so I called and yes I will be getting a refund but not for the full amount they still kept $23 so I am definitely not a happy camper about that but now the way it is because I'm not subscribing I am only able to see people at my door if it's on live and if someone come to my door and ring the doorbell that was still work then I always can open up my app and see them live to see exactly who's there but to make a long story short I think $40 is a lot if they are not going to call the cops and alarm you that the cops is on the way if they see something going on but you paid $45 for other security and it'll do it all so that's all I have to say about it but I'm not a happy camper she's each their own.😒
Thanks for the honest review. Seems shady that it only works when you’re paying them. Sounds like they’re forcing buys. Kind of like what apple does when a new phone drops
Thanks for your review. Very good info. I have the same one you reviewed. My free trial is due to expire and I am thinking of subscribing because I like the videos and option to keep etc. I will let you know if I encounter the same “nerfing” issue. Thank you for your review.
If it acts up call them. Or even if it doesn’t act up. Call them and ask them why it’s not working after the pay period and see if they give u a free month
Yeah the fact that it's always connected and they can mess with your stuff and subscriptions and privacy and all that is a really big turn off. Also, im not sure how it is in Canadia, but in the US police departments can collect all the footage from amazon so youre basically a non-consenting informant on your neighbors. if you try any other solutions I'd definitely like to see how it works out for you
We have the Ring Gen 2 and honeeeestllly, I don't really like it. For some reason on the gen 2 you can't change out the batteries, either gotta hardwire it or dismount it and charge it which takes forever and after like 3 weeks of using it the bottom of the camera feed got a weird green line thru it. Ima wait till it shits out & get a nest next. I do think its worth paying the monthly fee so you can view captured videos but at the same time like that should be free lol. It's basically pointless without being able to save the captures.
@@YuriTereshyn yea man it's the same here. They never ring the ring 😂 it definitely is worth paying the monthly fee, but kinda sucks bc it's like $120 USD a year on top of buying into it for $200. With the nest, all the captures and stuff are kept in the Google cloud for free. We also have an issue with ours where the footage will be all weird and glitchy / lag really bad, and sometimes it loses the captures altogether.
With Alexa you can link your Alexa and ring doorbell and enable it in Alexa app and all Alexa devices can ring like a doorbell and they announce “someone is at the door! “
Ring should give atleast 5-10 clips for free, because device itself is very expensive campare to others Ring design looks old fashion, compare to Honeywell, Alarm.com etc..
Yes paying won't take money but tells you to change payment method don't just try pay gives you 23 hour keep doing can view and save yourself just a pain doing it everyday but if they don't take payment more fool's them 😉 🤔 👍👍 😂

Paying a monthly fee for you're doorbell is insane imo
It’s more of a security system when you have multiple cameras around..
It passes me off you can't watch motion videos without subscription. I may have to smash it

ayy, nice video! you made a mistake in the description "have done 2 months paid (free trail) and a few weeks of non trial"
