I once didn't feel comfortable around dogs for years; but when my husband finally agreed to get our 10 year old daughter a dog, it was the best thing for the family. I LOVE MY DOG! He loves us unconditionally; and very protective. His name is Jimmy; a yorkie-terrier mix. Thank God for Jimmy :) Hopefully that lady will change her mind.

So I brought home a straight A report card and she took me to build a bear and let me build my own stuffed dog. Then said "there's your dog"

A puppy may not be the best choice for someone who is afraid of dogs since they usually aren't trained, are hyper and haven't established boundaries. Maybe an older small dog will help her adjust better. She could tell the dog to sit or go away if she doesn't want to be bothered and he will more likely listen better than an active puppy.
No she doesn't need therapy. She is just scared of the dog, it's normal. I get nervous around them too, it doesn't mean I need help. That's just a waste of resources for people with real phobias.

If she knows she can’t handle a dog because of her fear we should all just appreciate the fact that she hasn’t bought/ rescued one just to then realise she can’t handle it and take the poor thing back to the shelter. My mom is scared of dogs too. She talks about getting a dog sometimes because she knows my dad loves dogs, but we all know it would make her miserable to have to live with a dog. The fear doesn't go away just because you want it to. It doesn't even need to make sense, it's not okay to make people compromise on something they're afraid of. Best option would be to try therapy to reduce the anxiety being felt so that then it can be a discussion of practicality rather than fear.
Indeed. You _can_ work with a phobia if you are really motivated though. But it’s hard as hell. Exposure therapy. I had bad driving anxiety. I now work part time as a taxi driver. It’s better by far, but still a work in progress. I avoid long trips still.

This all changed the day my family decided we would get a little Jackrussel/Dachshund and when we got into this persons house and sat down on there sofa this little puppy ran up to me and jumped on my lap. We still have that little guy now 10 years later and I wouldn’t regret it
People want to call her selfish but she's the only one out of the husband, wife, Steve and audience that was willing to compromise. Just because one person likes something it's not fair to force it on another person. My little boy cried for a dog about a year straight when he was 4 yrs old. My husband came home one night with a little box he put down near the heater (winter time and the kids were in bed). He told me I'd better look in the box right away. It was the cutest puppy for our son. One year of crying! 😢
I am scared of dogs too my whole life. In recent years though I have gotten better. I find if I see how owners react kind or friendly their dogs tend to be better tempered. If they pull their dog away from me I get scared. As a result I absolutely love two of my neighbors dogs. I pet them and hug them when I see them 4 years ago I would have never.

If a relationship won't work out just because of something ridiculous like arguing about a pet then it's better to leave the relationship. Besides, it's not petty if one partner genuinely can't have a dog or some other pet because of valid reasons. In a relationship both should be happy, not just one being happy and other being miserable. So I think this solution of fake dog would be 50/50, or just don't get any type of dog at all whether it's fake or real. You can always find other ways to spend time with dogs when your potential husband is not with you.

Shes afraid for a reason. Jo one put that into account. Shes the mother and will have to be stuck cleaning walking and caring for that dog when the father is too busy. There are people who cannot have them or people who don't like animals. I used to have a dog from november 2002 to may 2015. He ran away and never came back. I still don't know what happened to him. I got so sad I refused to have another dog ever again becouse that one was special and had my childhood.

Besides, it's not petty if one partner genuinely can't have a dog or some other pet because of valid reasons. In a relationship both should be happy, not just one being happy and other being miserable. So I think this solution of fake dog would be 50/50, or just don't get any type of dog at all whether it's fake or real. You can always find other ways to spend time with dogs when your potential husband is not with you.

Shes afraid for a reason. Jo one put that into account. Shes the mother and will have to be stuck cleaning walking and caring for that dog when the father is too busy. Not to mention the child is 3 years old. So basically you will have 2 children to care for. Its selfish to tell her she needs to get a dog. First help her deal with her fears because they are real then make sure she isn't the only one caring for this dog from day to day along with a very demanding 3 year old.

There are people who cannot have them or people who don't like animals. I used to have a dog from november 2002 to may 2015. He ran away and never came back. I still don't know what happened to him. I got so sad I refused to have another dog ever again becouse that one was special and had my childhood.
