I think this “ghost Aerith “ it’s Jenova. Because if it’s real Aerith, she is dead now she could be in touch with lifestream and by extension know more and know that cloud is not sane. But it seems she is pushing him to keep mad.
There's also a possibility Aerith told Cloud something else while he was falling through the portal so he knows things others don't. And Marlene said to Zack that Cloud can save her, so... Waiting for part 3 hoping for the best.

Why do I feel like Cloud's current state stays between the real world and lifestream and the conversation between Cloud and Aerith "You gonna be okay getting back" can mean that she can somehow possibly return to the real world and "Don't worry. It's like a second home" can actually mean she's in lifestream now so she can stop the meteor there which is the same in OG. But Rebirth actually gives a new potential that Zack and Aerith can return but don't really know how. PS. Poor Cloud gonna go psycho in the next chapter where many things going to be resolved. If we took what Sephiroth said seems like the different realities are collapsing, so the Aerith Cloud sees is actually the one he saved from Sephiroth attack holding his sword,while the one who died is the one from 97. The next game probably will dive into the multiverse crossing theme. Because of the collapse, Aerith is dead and alive at the same time as both timelines fused (remake and 97), Cloud is probably the one who can see her because he was present in both the reality she died and the one he was able to prevent Sephiroth attack.

@@DiegoRodriguez-dw7pv they've been teasing for a while that her death scene was gonna be different and considering the changes they had made since remake it was to be expected that it would be different. honestly i think even if they remade that scene 1:1 the impact would not be the same bc everyone knows it's gonna happen. the og scene was impactful because it was so shocking and unexpected, even if they were to recreate it everyone was already expecting her to die. they're trying to convey a different feeling on this one bc it's not the same exact game as the OG. i do agree that her death scene here and the emotions felt very inconclusive but i'm pretty sure they'll continue to explore that in part 3 which is why her death scene feels so "open ended". the OG death scene was definitely a lot more impactful and sadder but it was because she died and that was it, in this one they clearly want to explore something different with her death and the timeline stuff (that is still very confusing to me personally).

Aerith is probably like sephiroth now, in the lifestream able to force ghost to cloud which only he can see like in the first game. The reason why she can force ghost is cause she has more practice in being using the lifestream like going to other worlds and taking cloud with her.

She’s either alive in another timeline or in the lifestream because he doesn’t act like she’s there in front of the party members. He’s not telling the others “look it’s Aerith, she’s right here”. He doesn’t talk to the air while the others are around to see it, it’s like he knows if they saw him do that they’d think he’s crazy. Cloud knows something we don’t. If he had gone crazy he’d act like she’s physically there for good.
Cloud’s hallucinating really gets in the way of the emotional impact of this scene. What made the original so emotional is that it was a very straightforward gut punch. I can’t help but feel that the impact gets lost in the convolution of alternate timelines and cloud’s psychosis.
The is beyond awesome we'll get the full scene in part 3 i hope i am gonna buy this masterpiece soon the themes of depression and trauma in ff7 are also incredible😢

Go play through the OG FF7. At this point of the game Cloud is under Sephiroth control and Cloud is at the start of a full mental breakdown. The only difference this time around is Aerith is with him. Speaking to him from the lifestream. Were Remake changed it up. Rebirth seems to be sticking to the OG story.
Everyone’s forgetting about the “new world”/timeline/realities that get created whenever someone goes against destiny, Sephiroth mentions it before this. Cloud clearly saved Aerith, watch the moment he deflects Sephy’s sword. It’s possible she’s alive in a new world, I know that sounds crazy, but it would explain why they didn’t show her death that occurred in the remake/OG world, so that we the audience don’t feel that finality. It’s to show there is hope. Cloud can’t be going crazy, if he is then he’s aware he’s going crazy because he doesn’t act like she’s there in front of the party members, he knows something that we don’t.

The way they protrayed everyone's sadness for Aerith dying is so bizarre to me (besides Cloud's who clearly is having a moment for whatever reason). Think they missed the mark a bit here.
i think the point is that we're seeing it mostly through cloud's perspective. they barely showed the other's reactions and they mostly showed cloud's pov, him thinking that he saved her and thinking that she's safe and with them. they're definitely gonna explore more of her death scene and explain it in part 3 because her death scene in rebirth feels very inconclusive and there's still a lot of questions that need to be answered especially regarding the whole "timeline" stuff.

The game is boring. First part takes forever and stopped playing already. Hate the combat. First part was much better in every way except for intergrade. Can't play a boring game.
