- Abi Cole hopes to use this talk to bring light on the serious, often unnoticed issue of domestic violence. She advocates a change in awareness, and a concerted effort to remove the stigma that is so attached to the topic.
Abi Cole is an undergraduate student at St. Aidan's College, Durham University.

Abi. Thank you for your strength. I am a 60 yr old man that has face the same childhood memories from my father. It has devastated my life and those around me. Domestic violence must stop.
All invisible problems are not taken seriously enough, mental health issues, invisible physical health issues & recovering from trauma.
Thank you for your presentation. I am going through with a divorce no matter what it takes.
When I was a very young child, I distinctly remember witnessing violent altercations between my parents. One particular Christmas , there was a severely intense moment, they were practically nose to nose and one of them was holding a kitchen knife... I am not sure whether it is just the psychological part of my brain protecting me, but I cannot remember to this day which of them was holding the knife !
I wish people become more aware towards this topic. Children are our future. Their happiness is the utmost priority.
"I WILL KEEP CHILDREN SAFE FROM DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!!". As their aunt, I now know what I MUST do!

@@Yentl97 That was a year ago. I ended up calling the police and reporting the abuse.
@@arreola891 I see. But it is good that you were able to be there for the children.
No what we need immediately is education for children first in how to be safe, where to look for help, what is acceptable in their treatment and what is not, at the same time educate the judges, lawyers, the cps into taking it far more seriously than they do, it should not be left to others to report this, teachers doctors, crèches should be taught how to recognise the signs and ACT immediately

In my whole 20 yrs of living, My parents have fought(verbal) several times either for misunderstanding but mostly because my mother is too doubtful of my father but he is a good man with a bit tipsy drunkard. And my father has never ever laid my mother a hand, i mean never. Due to this kinds of situations, my childhood and even now I have mental illness and a heartache, like i want to leave all this but I love them but this sitution just kills me from inside......
I was not this strong at 20, that’s incredible. Thank you for sharing, I related a lot. I think it’s so important to realize that abusers also ruin the lives of those who witness it, even if they don’t experience it physically first hand. I have so much trauma from my father, but I am getting support for it. It’s so hard though.
What type of support do you get and recommend to young children who also witness domestic violence.
@@Yentl97 that’s a very hard question. I wish I had an answer. When I was a kid in that situation I was always fearful of finding support because of the possibility of being taken away from my parents. Even telling a teacher seemed risky because I knew they would have to report. My best support were my friends.

They were children. I cannot comment on their level of sanity.
Hearing this wrings your inside, it was unbearable to listen to and unimaginable to fathom. My heart is still hurting my head is angry and my stomach has sank :^(

My daughter told teachers many time and friends but almost all trying to stay away.sad I tried may centers every one saying I have to move out but how in my evmxperiance domestic violence means nothing for many people when they hear ur fight instead of giving u a helping hand atleast a kind smile they just pretend like they sing u any more .I'm fighting
How can I help to change the system?
Calling out micro agressions, normalized micro agressions make more damaging versions of agression more likely and 'normal'. My boyfriend hadn't noticed, because he was just repeating what he had sean before, but while watching football -soccer- when a player missed a chance at scoring or something like that, he would remark at the TV: OMG, such a girl. I asked him what he thought was soooooo inherently wrong with being a girl that he thought it could be used as an insult and the one only time he almost did it again, he caught himself halfway and appologized straight away.

Some violations shatter a person..
They collect ya head. They all mad. Them not any property own up to your self
I have absolutely no sympathy or pity whatsoever for women who are battered by their husbands. They showed extreme stupidity to have married their abusive men in the first place and as such, they brought it upon themselves.
What an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. If people knew the person they were marrying was going to beat them they wouldn’t get involved. As a child who watched this, and a woman who experienced it it gets progressively worse. At first names, then pushes and shoves and eventually hitting and more. It’s slow and consuming. Like the story of the frog in water slowly coming to the boil. This isn’t a weakness of the victim.
