Ren Gill, a dynamic singer, guitarist and songwriter, was born in Wales. Known by his stage name, Ren, he came to attention on the pavements of bath where he played with an indie-pop band called Trick the Fox.
Chinchilla is a British singer-songwriter who describes her music as "kind of fiery soulful empowering pop”. She is best known for being the support act on the latest McFly tour in 2021. She has released two EPs, Awakening (2020) and Moon Maintenance For Dummies (2021), and several singles, such as Elements, Fabulous, Demand Respect, Cold Water, How to Be Me, The Lockdown Getdown, and Fingers.

I truly feel like Ren is one of the most creative people on the planet. How one person can make such stunning songs and productions in such a myriad and combination of genres and styles is truly amazing.
We are witnessing greatness here.. doesn't happen every day for the world to get such an amazing artist.
whenever i listen to ren i get such a theatrical and technical vibe almost medieval honestly i just dont know how to describe it. its so unique it genuinely transcends my understanding of music and what i am used to it feels timeless
I watched an interview with Chinchilla, she said they didn't over rehearse because they wanted raw emotion rather than perfection.
This performance is easily one of the most beautiful and powerful things I have witnessed in years. Their connection together is simply astounding. This is true artistry and talent in its highest form.

I love Ren and Chinchilla individually, but the combination of their voices is purely alchemical. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts, by light years.

I've seen probably 100+ reactions to this song, and probably listened to it another 100 times. And someone seems to be cutting onions every time...weird.
Obviously the content of the lyrics is emotional, and that is one thing. But this performance is gorgeous even without words. If this was in a language I didn't speak I feel like I would have the same reaction. It's such moving sounds.
Two super talented people performing for real - it's refreshing in this age of autotuned, comp'd, quantized attempts that try pass as 'pop' music but is written by teams and published by corparations for the soul purpose of making money.

Beth, in case you weren't aware: This song is about Ren dealing with his best friend ending his life by jumping from a bridge. They were both young at the time (early 20's) and Ren really struggled with what his life was without Joe. Ren also dealt with a lot of guilt as he got to the bridge about 5 minutes too late to save him and feels partly responsible.
I believe that the bridge that Joe jumped from is the same bridge they are standing on when they made this video. The layers of Ren keeps peeling back

What I love about songs like this and Chalk Outlines, is he has a very Jeff Buckley style to his voice. Like you said, it’s very haunting!

You should check out his duets with Eden Nash as well. (Or one of my personal favorites Freckled Angels which was dedicated to his late friend Joe Hughes)
His library is pretty diverse. If you want to see more singing than rap there's plenty to choose from. (I think you'd really enjoy his work with The Big Push)
Also... for a Sting type song feom him and his band The Big Push... it's called Englishman in New York or for a Reggae vibe... I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop (that version!) Will Blow Your mind!!!

Ren isn't just a songwriter but rather a Performance Art Master who blends music and character acting from all the styles over the last 500 years and makes it modern and relatable to all generations even if normally you may not be a fan of whatever genre he is currently performing. After that extremely emotional song you owe it to yourself to have some fun courtesy of Chinchilla I suggest starting at the beginning with Elements it sounds like it came out yesterday and I can listen and dance around the house with it on repeat all day
was literally excited for you to get around to this one - I figured you'd love it. It's one of my favorites, along with Chalk Outlines (I'm sorry, I can't recall if you've done that one). They have such an engrossing dynamic!

Very glad you discovered this song to react to Beth. It is A very powerful song about grief and its effects. Those that are left behind after someone ends their existence and the pain of that is displayed perfectly by marrying these lyrics and the vocals by Ren and Chinchilla. 8:48 Beth just gave up and so did the camera! Aside from everything, the thing I really love is how methodically Ren chooses spaces for their acoustic qualities, often reverb or resonance, but here... chosen to "cut" cleanly. When you can do that, who needs mastering!?!?

I would like to suggest and request you consider reacting to a song by Jack Jones - he is a very talented and gifted singer - a perfect song to react to is called "What are you doing the rest of your life" by Jack Jones (written by Michael Legrand) - Jack Jones was one or Frank Sinatra's and Tony Bennett's favorite singers ever!! He sings with Superb Tone, amazing intonation breath control and is a Master Vocalist with an amazing range!! You'd love his singing - trust me!

Just a heads up, Ren released an acoustic mashup of some Fred Again songs recently, I think you'll love it, but fair warning, it's an earworm.
That Ren's ending was for Joe, like this whole song.
You need to go down the ten rabbit hole. I and other subscribers would watch them multiple times. If you don't want to do multiple tracks from same artists, just do his live acoustic tracks or the ones featuring Eden nash. Please :)
