Love your honesty and your reactions ❤. The song Power actually touches on how he uses music as his coping skill. I'm sure these have probably already been suggested but look up his collaborations with Sam Tompkins doing Nina Simone, and mashup of shot the sheriff/zion/hip hop with his band Big Push. Literally anything by Ren is fantastic and so happy for him that he's now blowing up the internet after 10+ years of putting his music out there. You have a wonderful day strand hope you are feeling better soon, so digging the hat 😁
How either one of these 2 powerhouses don't overpower each other is incredible to see. They are both soooo in sync on every level including emotion and commitment.
As the mother of a teenage daughter with BPD, this song breaks me. She’s on meds. She has a therapist and psychiatrist. It’s still a battle everyday to keep her alive. The only thing she’s been holding onto this last year is that her leaving would kill me. I hope that one day, she can walk out of this tomb. It’s so incredibly lonely in there.
I feel for you as a Momma. My son has struggled with depression, attempts on his life, so many misdiagnoses and wrong medications. Just finally diagnosed with Paranoid schizophrenia, bipolar bpd, ptsd and anxiety and depression. It is heartbreaking and I relate to ren's music and so does my son. Hugs to you honey 😢❤
Nice reaction to this GENIUS of an authentic & true artist. A lot of Reacters are gaining lots of mileage out of Ren's content & it would be fantastic for him if you all start VERBALLY encouraging your followers to subscribe to his channel 🤔 It's disappointing to see Hi Ren, alone, has been viewed approximately 8m times but he hasn't even reached 1m subscribers yet. Come on! Let's help him! Cheers 👍🍻
I never thought I'd encounter another piece of music or musician who can talk to the darkness one can find themselves, especially after someone you love is lost through suicide. Guy Sebastian has written a couple of songs that speaks about his own loss and another to help someone through. Now there is Ren who has achieved this as well. He is extraordinary, so many layers that he has found a way to confront in what almost seems fearless.
Most of Ren's songs are innovative and touch people on a very deep level, I've never known an artist so dynamic and inspiring while speaking of the struggles we all face. A true prodigy!
How he has used this song to describe how he is feeling after the death/suicide of his friend is amazing ... And the two of them work beautifully together, as you said they are one in the same.
@@michaelmardling3152 I struggled just to explain to someone else about this context for the song. I can't even imagine how much strength it took to create this.
We can always count on you to get it, Mrlboyd. One of the things I find most compelling about Ren as an artist is his ability to find the universal in the personal. So he's singing about this specific tragedy in his life, but it touches so many of us, and says something about our own tragedies. For me, as someone with a life-altering chronic illness, I can relate to everything here in my personal experience. One does forget "how to be me," when illness takes away everything you once thought was you. I feel like we can all come together and be soothed by this voice of someone who can take that tragedy, and make something so beautiful.
I always enjoy your reactions - what a hauntingly beautiful song. Ren impresses me every single time - he is so open and so raw - he gives himself to his music and to all of us!
It’s a song about all the self-examination people do after someone close to them commits suicide. He’s literally haunted by the loss of his best friend and wondering what you could have done different…wondering if he’ll ever escape feelings of grief and guilt.
For me, the song shows the perspective of the one who committed the suicide. But there is no 'right' or 'wrong' interpretation. It's up to you, which message you hear.
That's how I see it too. I've needed to listen to it a few times to understand this point of view. I've seen this playing out amongst young men who have lost way too many friends to suicide. There is nothing that can take away the pain for those left behind. Yet Ren has found a way to express this loss in a beautiful, yet haunting piece.
Ren mixes, writes, etc. everything himself & has suffered from psychosis among many other illnesses before properly diagnosed. This is mainly about his best friend killed himself jumping off a bridge & they never found his body 😢This young man has been through hell 😢
The range of emotions you were going through was amazing, especially that you rarely show emotions in a very visible way. While you were saddened and troubled you at the same time couldn't stop smiling from being overjoyed by how good this is. One of the best reactions of yours that I've seen (and I've seen many and they are all good).
They're singing on a bridge where Rens friend, Joe Hughes, took his own life. Chinchilla and Rens voices are so harmonic together. Ren's album Freckled Angels was dedicated to Joe. Chinchilla recently opened for Sting on tour. Check out some of her music when you can man 🙏
I’ll do happy you listened to this haunting song. You might want to check out Ren’s band Big Push busking. Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/ Trouble so Hard. You might enjoy is Retake of the Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony.
I stumbled upon REN literally yesterday, and have not stopped exploring his videos since! This is a once in a generation talent- the raw emotion he puts into his art is beyond amazing! Sick bou next plz :)
Ren and Sam Tompkins together is another pairing to check out. Their busking video medley of Earned It/Man's World/Falling is really good, as is Blind Eyed (the M.C. Sessions version is beautifully mixed and has excellent sound quality).
I really appreciated your reaction...someone who experienced most of what ren has in his life and how I as a person living with bipolar can relate to him. His artwork, your willingness to speak his truth. It means the world to so many. I generally keep quiet using emojis to show how I feel about music but this touches my soul. God bless ren and anyone dealing with chronic issues and may healing come.
Have ever experienced something like this? Like, finding someone that is creatively so special. I feel like I did when discovered Prince's deep catalog or Peter Gabriel. , but I feel like this is going to go even further than those greats. I feel like we are whitnessing the birth of a mega star. I could see ren (and sam) going on to make epic records, movies, videos, etc. I'm not sure there is anything Ren can't do.
I know how he feels. One of my closest friend od’d on oxy purposefully 4 years ago on NYE. To this day I sob when I think of him. I constantly ask him why, but he never answers. Thanks for your reaction.
I so thoroughly adore you, Sir. I literally couldn't be happier to see that •you• specifically, are reacting to this young man with many of his phenomenal collaborators. This song was written about/to/for his dear friend who took his life. Because life is like that, it so happened that Ren was the friend in his circle whose location was physically closest, at that moment, to the bridge where his friend presently was at when Ren got the call. Because life is like that, Ren arrived two minutes too late. This friend was apparently the one who had the funniest stories, who always made them all laugh, who was a brilliant light. Because life is like that, he had confided just a week before to Ren that he was troubled. I don't know when in Ren's timeline, from that event, that his physical illness began, but I imagine that specific night must have tremendously impacted the state of his mental health. You are doing such a respectful and impressive job reacting to this material. Thank you for being you.

This song was written for a dear friend of Ren's who tragically took his own life... off a bridge, and his body was never found. They recorded this on a bridge, not THEE bridge... but yeah. It's about the pain he's felt since
Would love to see you react to some of his rap - The Hunger, Power, Genesis, etc. The Hunger is probably his best technical piece in terms of really dense bars.
Ren is a true poet. His illness and situations like his friend’s suicide give him a point of view that is older than his years. There’s a lot of party happy youthful look to the future he missed out on in his twenties but on the other hand he’s already done ‘middle age’.
I’m not sure I entirely agree with that. I actually think that because of more than a lost decade of his youth he hankers after those lost years. REN’s lyrics often represent the mind of a 21 year old Uni student as opposed to a 33 year old man. Don’t get me wrong, I still think he is talented to an absurd degree, because he is so multifaceted in what he can do and how well he he can do it all. REN’s don’t come around very often.
I Love your Ren Reactions, I've been following you for a few years, It struck me when you reacted to "Hi Ren" There's a line that says "Played On Guitar, Plan B Did it" You may be the only reactor who has done a bunch of Plan B reactions (Ill Manors was one) a couple of years ago & have also done Ren, I wonder if you made the connection when he said that?
This song is about Ren's friend Joe Hughes, who committed suicide at age 19 by jumping off of the very same bridge that Ren and Chinchilla are singing on here.
WOW, I know Ren's in the UK but it sounds like he's been to a Baptist church or two on Sunday. Having said that I am not sure if that's a wig or a hat @MRLBOYD MUSIC so pick the one that applies. "That Keeps from H Mack is really working out for ya huh?" or "Damn what you doing with Bert Kreischer's hat?" (Sorry I couldn't resist.)
