For me, one of his best songs, is with Rainbow- Stargazer, his vocals really shine on that one. A short nan with the voice of a lion, a true legend, well respected. Welcome to the DIO rabbit hole ❤😊
Dio is the best metal vocalist ever. He was old in this performance, and although his voice is aways amazing, You need to listen to him in his prime, check out stargazer from rainbow or sign of the southern cross by black Sabbath ;)
In his prime? Dio never let his prime! He was superb in every show! He never down tuned a song to reach the high notes... The man was capable of singing the Sam as he did when he was 30...
Dio wasn't even in his prime at this point, and he was still better than the majority. Watch him when he was younger in a band called Rainbow, singing 'Mistreated' live in 1977. One of the very best vocal performances of all time. Please check it out.
It's hard to believe he began his career in the 1950s as a crooner/trumpet player and then reinvented himself to become one of the greatest Metal singers of all time.
Actually, Ronnie is from upstate, New York. Check out Dio in the 80's with Vivian Campbell on guitar. Viv is really fiery. Before Dio, you can check Ronnie out in Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. I recommend the song Stargazer. He also replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath for a couple of very good albums. The band that brought him to the attention of Blackmore when his band Elf was opening for Deep Purple. Elf was also a really good band although a little different from his later music collaborations. RJD, IMHO is the greatest male metal vocalist ever.
A very good friend of mine was from Phoenix, NY (upstate). By all accounts, RJD was a humble and friendly man. There are multiple cities in the U.S. that celebrate a "Dio Day". Also, the man was tiny. He could fit in a pocket.
Definitely difficult to say who is the greatest because it's even difficult to classify heavy metal or simply Hard Rock. Deep Purple, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, can all easily be contenders for great singers in the metal category. When you cross that gray area into rock and a hard rock there is definitely many more singers that could arguably be the greatest. One thing that I will say is the late 60s through the early 80s was a fantastic time for music.
@@buddybangs9445 True. He was born in Portsmouth due to his father's military commitment but his family moved back to Cortland when he was like three. Though born in NH all his childhood development and exposure to influences and all his schooling was in Cortland, NY. He has even said in interviews that he is a native NYer. So, true, he was born in NH but shortly after birth, he grew up from a toddler in his immediate family's hometown of Cortland, NY
RJD obviously was one of the greatest metal singer ever...but above all a down to earth man,a very cool guy who never disappointed his fans...i remember i met him in a festival here in Italy in 2005 (Tradate Iron Festival),he was the headliner and his show ended around midnight...well,after a short break, he and his mates in the band sat down in the meet and greed corner to meet the fans until 2:30 am...until the last one... and drinking some good italian with us too...truly a legend and a legend never dies!!! \m/
Don't know if anyone told you but the famous 🤘 hand gesture that's so associated with metal is something Ronnie James Dio is credited with introducing.
A little Dio history: He grew up listening to opera singers like Mario Lanza and played trumpet early. While in high school, he joined a band, the Vegas Kings, in 1958, and played trumpet. Soon he became the lead singer and played the bass. His band went through several names over the years. He started out singing doo wop, blues rock, and rock covers. Check out Ronnie and the Prophets with Love Potion #9 (cover). By the 70s, his band Elf were opening for Deep Purple. Try Nevermore from their first album. Once he joined Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, the songs became harder rock and proto-metal. I'll let others tell you about his progression as a metal singer after that. Enjoy!
@Walter Hennerman Absolutely correct, yet soo deceptive...so few words to describe so much greatness over so much time. Dio had several careers-worth of contribution and significance (when so many struggle for a single, brief moment of relevance), and it's hard for many to truly understand the breadth and impact of this single performer's everlasting work on the larger rock landscape. RIP Dio rl 🤘👹🤘
Love how you try to hit those notes that are typically out of your wheelhouse. ( even though your wheelhouse is far beyond most) it will definitely be beneficial to your future endeavors. Great voice and love the videos.
Dio is metal. And he’s American. Born in Portsmouth NH and moved to upstate NY at a young age. Fantastic as always. Also. Check out Nightwish Phantom of the Opera with Floor Jansen singing.
A little info about the power and endurance of Ronny James Dio...this concert was toward the end of carrier when he was suffering from stomach cancer...he never gave up, loved his fans and music...he was a true GOAT in every sence of the term term!!!
LOVE RJD, you should check out younger Dio with Rainbow and Black Sabbath. Also later Dio with Heaven and Hell (renamed reunion of Black Sabbath) 2009 performances were the last shows recorded before he passed in 2010. STILL sounded AMAZING.
Dio is a New York native, he’s from upstate New York I believe. He actually started out as a doo wap singer, look up his old band Ronnie Dio and the Prophets . This was from the early ‘60s
There’s a story that Ronnie James Dio never done vocal warm ups! He just launched in to the first song and with that and his expressiveness is probably the root of the phrase “All hail Dio!” He also he had a way with fans as well. “For the artist each fan is a couple of minutes, for the fan is an opportunity of a lifetime!”
Opeth - Porcelain Heart. Oh and of course Tool Sober live is a must. Everyone should see taht performance of him in a pink onesy singing like a crazy God.
You should check out judas priest. Rob halford is the singer of victom of changes beautiful song. And a great singer I think you would love it. And dio was a great singer will be missed forever 😢. He sang for black sabbath when ozzy went solo
given that Yell is the British Yellow Pages online, I suspect it's still up. Edit: Dio is also known for his AD&D Metal, the best known of which is his song Holy Diver.
You might also love another "Scottish" Singer - Doogie White. He fronted Rainbow in 1995. Check out him sing a Dio era Rainbow song "Temple of the King" (Live at Philipshalle, Düsseldorf 1995).
RJD was the classiest of the metal gods. He adored his fans and was so appreciative of them. He was also an extremely intelligent man and very well spoken. I was a teenager in the 80s and have a huge regret that I never saw them in concert.
For me, Dios best period was when he was with Rainbow. He and Blackmore had a unique connection. The dynamics of his vocals were incredible, from - Stargazer to Catch The Rainbow, Gates Of Babylon to Rainbow Eyes and live Misteated - Just great vocal performances.
Would not many people know about Ronnie James dio is he was one of the sweetest guys on the planet during dinner we sat and talked for about 3 hours just about anything and everything had nothing to do with the music had nothing to do with his singing Just everyday life it was awesome to get to know a celebrity like that
Ronnie was Born in New Hampshire USA ... It is all about them proper vowels, I sound nothing like him but learned his power and vowel tech, easier than a classical teacher brought me. If you look into his history you will find that he started in Do-Wop
You're hearing him sing this later in life when the band transposed the key. Listen to the studio version from 1983 from when he and the drummer had practically "just" left Black Sabbath.
Since you like mature and gritty voices, and you liked Judas Priest, you should react to Judas Priest -The Rage (Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Arena). It's Halford at his grittier, and I haven't seen any singer reactions to it. It's a gem.
Seeing DIO live was always an excellent "show", got your monies worth for sure. He was just born with a voice, never even warmed up before a performance.
This song is about Ritchie Blackmore... if you want to hear the powerfull of his voice, listening "Mistreated" and "Children of the Sea" with Black Sabbath.... or the Ozzy´s versions in Sabbath "Black Sabbath" or "War Pigs" ;)
You might want to check out Liliac (pronounced Lily-Ack). Dio's drummer said the vocalist is the female reincarnation of Ronnie James Dio's voice after hearing their cover of this song.
I’m the Old School, I was a teenager when this music came out. I saw Ronnie James Dio in every band he was in except for Elf. BLACK SABBATH several times, Almost every DIO tour, RAINBOW etc. I must have seen him in concert 15 times over the years! Killer live performer with killer live bands!
Love that u are finding Dio...a great rabbithole, like Metallica, Sabaton, Nightwish, Pink Floyd...for a singer with almost zero formal training he had great instincts.
I love everything Ronnie James Dio has been involved with. I cried the day that he passed away. I was lucky enough to see him many times with Black Sabbath, his own band Dio and Heaven And Hell. You should definitely give a listen to Stargazer from Rainbow, Sign Of The Southern Cross from Black Sabbath and Egypt (The Chains Are On) from Dio. And that’s just scratching the surface. That man has made a lot of amazing music over the years. You have a lot of great music to listen to. I love your reactions!
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Yes, it is kind of strange. When you listen to an artists music your entire life, it kind of feels like you know them personally. Even though you have never met them.
DIO is one of the GOAT's!! I remember that he was still planning to go on tour in 2010 and I wanted to attend one of his shows, but sadly it got cancelled because of his illness and he died shortly after. I sadly never got to see him...
If you wanna hear more Diosongs they are from Dio: Stargazer, Holy Diver, , Man on the silver mountein, and so on. and when he was singing for Black SAbbath: Mo rules, Neon Knights, Children of the sea, Heaven and hell, tehre is a lot more . And id would be nice if you can do a raction to Eluveitei wich is a fuckinggreat Swiss Melodic Death/Folkband
Wow! When you said you were soul Singer, I thought you would be really good… But you are amazing! You’re one of those old-school power belters, and that really excites me! I came here for Ronnie, James Dio, but we already know how great he is. You really surprised me!
These days as I have grown into an old softy, it always hits me in the tear ducts when I see Dio performing - miss that little guy with the enormous voice, in no small part because my late wife was a huge Dio fan-girl. EDIT: Thoroughly enjoyed that reaction and am sad that I can't Subscribe again :) Mind you, you are at triple the 666 you were when UA-cam first showed you to me :D
Ronnie James Dio (born 1942 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA as Ronald James Padavona) was 51 y.o. at the time for this concert, with decades of musician ship behind. A true legend - R.I.P. Thank you for a great reaction.
My fav Dio song is "Don't Talk To Strangers" because it shows both his tenderness and his growling. The lyrics are amazing too. To me, it is about bad advice. Other masterpieces are Rainbow's Stargazer and Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell.
One thing I'd very much like to see you doing a reaction to is a Romanian band called Bucovina and their song "Așteaptă-mă dincolo de moarte" (Wait for me on the other side of death). The band dedicated this song to their good friend Adrian Ruginâ (June 18 1977-October 30 2015) who tragically died while running in and out trying to save other Metal heads from the burning Club Colectiv in Bucharest Romania on October 30 2015, the blaze ending up claiming 64 lives (including Adrian) and 184 people injured out of which 146 people needing urgent medical care due to severe burns. R.I.P Adrian.
Also, please check out the "Black Sabbath Die Young" official video on here! ❤️🤘🏻 I MASSIVELY LOVE DIO!! ...also, he's American, he's from Cortland NY! ❤️
Dio was a Heavy Metal Bard, ex Trumpet player and gentlemen, hence the awesome phrasing and breath control. Another song to check ... The band King's X, Over my head (soul singer in a rock band).
Welcome to the cult 😁. When Ronnie James Dio sings, he reads you a book and immerses you in the story. I’m a huge fantasy lover and his lyrics almost always have some kind of message embedded in a fantasy story. Great reaction again and look forward to your next video! Btw you probably have heard Dio way before that Tenacious D song : remember ‘Love is all’ by Roger Glover? That animated video from the 70s with the frog playing guitar ? That song is sung by Ronnie.
Funny story about this track, (maybe someone has already mentioned it,) Ronnie thought this song was a bit too "pop" when he composed and recorded it for his first solo album, "Holy Diver", he wanted to take a razor blade to the master tape but his band mates talked him out of doing that, saying he was mad and it was a brilliant track; it became his biggest major radio single.
Great rabbit hole with Dio, 50 years of singing. Highly recommend listening to his "Rainbow" days. "Stargazer" is a vocal masterpiece. Also check out his live work with songs from the Rainbow Live in Munich 1977 - "Mistreated", "Catch the Rainbow" and "Man on the Silver Mountain" are outstanding
An absolute pumper of a song, not fast, just pumping. Fun fact, my friend went to see DIO and passed out just as DIO came on stage. Too metal for him, haha. Lived in vocals, you hit the nail on the head. I've been looking for a perfect phrase to fit that nice one. Ronnie only smoked a joint before hitting the stage, with hardly any warm-ups. RIP, you legend Ronnie. Until next time 🙂
I met Dio in person. Songwriter symposium years ago in Long Beach or thereabout. Nice guy. Refused to speak poorly of anyone, at least to a fan wearing a Dio t-shirt. Anyway. Maybe I'll catch hell from the other Dio fans here, but Mistreated is and was a song David Coverdale wrote with Ritchie Blackmore and Deep Purple performed on their albums Burn, Made in Europe, and Last Concert in Japan. Great as Dio is as a singer? And he is? David's version of Mistreated is the definitive version. Dio doesn't have David's soulful bluesy delivery. Sorry Ronnie. Also. I would have said start your Dio journey with Rainbow, and not necessarily just Stargazer, even though it's a great song. Kill The King would have been my first choice from Rainbow On Stage. Back when Jimmy Bain was still playing bass and Tony Carey was still on keyboards. I love every song on Long Live Rock and Roll so that'd be next but😮 Rainbow Rising has great songs too. I would also have suggested Man On The Silver Mountain also from On Stage. The studio version on the Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow album feels different because the original version of Rainbow was actually Elf with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. Ronnie was very loyal to Elf, and he would not join forces with Ritchie Blackmore unless Ronnie's band Elf could become Rainbow. Ritchie wanted Ronnie, so he caved in. (So saying Ronnie joined Rainbow is actually not correct. Ritchie Blackmore had left Deep Purple and was forming a band together with Ronnie James Dio. Hence why Elf was the band on the Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow album.) Ritchie also hated Elf as his backing band and fired all of them except RJD for Rainbow Rising. So, On Stage features the version of Rainbow on Rising: Cozy Powell on drums, Tony Carey on keyboards (he had a hit later with his next group Planet P and their song Why Me which Tony sang lead vocals on), Jimmy Bain on bass, and Ritchie on guitar and Ronnie on vocals. The only two complete albums the Rising version of Rainbow played on. Long Live Rock and Roll dropped next, and there's a live album connected with it, but, good as bassist Bob Daisley and keybardist David Stone are? The Rising band from On Stage sound way better. Ironically? Bob and David are pictured on the cover of Long Live Rock and Roll, but I believe the Rising version of Rainbow recorded more than half the songs on that album. I think Bob and David only played/recorded like 2 tracks. The funny thing is? Kill The King actually made its debut on On Stage and was on Long Live Rock and Roll afterwards. Usually bands do a studio version then the live version. Not Rainbow. Then after you sample Rainbow, definitely check out Ronnie's tenure in Black Sabbath, after Rainbow but before his solo band, Dio. Heaven And Hell is a great album with pretty much no bad songs on it. The Mob Rules is also excellent with few if any duds. I also liked Dehumanizer by Black Sabbath with Ronnie back in the fold after leaving to form Dio. (They eventually changed their name to Heaven and Hell when recording and touring with RJD because Ozzy rejoined Sabbath and they didn't want to confuse the fans. Black Sabbath were occasionally mocked as Blackmore Sabbath while Ronnie was in the band, because they sounded more like Rainbow and less like Sabbath with Ronnie singing.) Then I would check out Dio's Holy Diver album, and start with the song Holy Diver. Then check out the follow up The Last in Line and check out that song and We Rock, and maybe even check out Sacred Heart, also a great album and song, and try the album Dream Evil. (That song vied with Dokken's hit Dream Warriors for the prime spot in the 3rd Freddy Krueger movie. Dokken won that battle but Dio's Dream Evil was a close contender.) Rainbow in the Dark by Dio is a good song. Don't get me wrong. As with my suggestions for how I would have had you start your Cinderella journey? I wouldn't have started your Dio journey here. But. That's just me. (And actually? I believe the last version of Dio featured Doug Aldrich on guitar, Rudy Sarzo on bass, and Simon Wright from AC/DC on drums. And Ronnie looked older. And was. Vinnie Appice is still on drums here, so this isn't all that old. Needed to clear that up. Vinnie was on Sabbath's The Mob Rules because Bill Ward quit after recording Heaven and Hell because he missed Ozzy. So Vinnie was the drummer for the Heaven and Hell version of Black Sabbath.) Also. Do you intentionally bleep yourself? I don't mind the swears myself but I'm a 62 year old dude...just saying. Do you intentionally self censor? It seems a bit silly. Sorry. Unnecessary? Yeah. That. Don't be afraid, my dude. Also. Dio was a New Yorker. Born in New Hampshire but raised in Cortland New York. His favorite guitarists were British however. (Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi) or Irish like Vivian Campbell, so Ronnie's other guitarists tended to at least have to sound European. Like, he didn't hire Jake E. Lee because Jake sounded too L.A. to Ronnie. Doug Aldrich could play Blackmore perfectly so he was an easy fit. I don't recognize the guitarist here. It looks like maybe Jeff Pilson on bass but I don't recognize the guitarist. Not Rowan Robertson from Lock Up the Wolves and not Craig Goldy either. I did see Dio live with Vivian Campbell on the Last in Line tour and on Sacred Heart with Viv as well. The battle with the dragon on stage. Also with Craig Goldy after Viv left. Anyway.
R.J.D loved his fans ..always had and took yime for them .. what a great singer as well as a story teller..listen t"last in Line" live,, absolutely freaking awesome.
Please go back to 4:17. Listen to how he delivers "LOST". OMFG!!! Also my pro tip for the next one. If you decide to give it a go I copied the title on youtube: "Dio - Children of the Sea - Live `83" OMG this is old but holy shit HE DESTROYS THIS!! Still get goose bumps.
Thank you for recognizing RJD!!! This video is late in his prime.. any of his 70's and 80's live versions show him at his peak!!! He is the Rock n Roll GOAT! GO FIND his Rainbow and Sabbath years. Miss him every day!!
Some of DIO’s best live performances are captured on the RAINBOW, ON STAGE album (1977). I love his work with this band too, of course. Try HOLY DIVER. If I ever start a DIO tribute band, I know who to call!
Dio has been a musician for the majority of his long life, Started very young. Checkout rainbow man on the silver mountain with dio singing. Incredible
Ronnie James Dio is Italian-American... he was raised Catholic, and that upbringing gave him a very negative view about religion... That was a huge part of his lyrics. He actually started singing as a teen in the late 1950's and was making R&B/ do-wop records in the 60's. He started a rock band called The Electric Elves, and after hearing Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath... he renamed the band Elf (Ronnie was a short fella!) and played hard rock in the early 70's. In 1975, Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore recruited Ronnie James Dio as the singer of a new band Rainbow (the first album featured members of Elf) and that was his first taste of fame... But after 3 albums, Dio was axed in favor of a pop rock singer for Rainbow. In 1980, Ronnie Dio was announced as the new singer of Black Sabbath, replacing Ozzy Osbourne... his musical identity solidified because Sabbath wanted to go darker and heavier... and he did too, bringing Black Sabbath commercial success again. However, he was out of the band by 1982 after 2 albums... Vinny Appice was the Sabbath drummer at the time, and he went w/ Ronnie to form Dio in 1983. Dio wanted to work w/ an British guitarist, so he picked Irish axeman Vivian Campbell and former Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain for the band Dio... Their debut album 'Holy Diver' (1983) was a success out the gate... 'Rainbow in the dark' was its standout single, along w/ the song 'Holy Diver'... 2nd album 'The Last in Line' was even bigger in 1984... but after the 3rd album 'Sacred heart' (1985), Vivian Campbell left the band (he's currently the guitarist of Def Leppard) and Craig Goldy (guitar) joined... but Dio never recovered his commercial success. With 2 more Dio albums failing to sell up to expectations ('Dream evil' in 1987... 'Lock up the wolves' in 1990), Ronnie reconnected w/ members of Black Sabbath and opted to reunite in 1992 for the 'Dehumanizer' album... However, Ronnie quit in 1993 because he refused to open for Ozzy Osbourne. Ronnie reformed Dio in 1993 and released 'Strange highways'... but 90's grunge rock decimated the popularity of heavy metal... and this live clip was shot on that tour w/ Tracy G (guitar), Jeff Pilson (bass), Vinny Appice (drums) and Scott Warren (keyboards). Dio carried on making records into 2000 and then Ronnie reconciled w/ Tony Iommi (guitar) and Geezer Butler (bass) of Black Sabbath again in 2006 and reformed the band as Heaven and Hell. They recorded 1 album 'The devil you know' in 2009 before Ronnie James Dio passed away from cancer in 2010 (R.I.P.) Dio songs - 'Holy Diver'... 'The last in line'... 'All the fools sailed away'... 'Rock n roll children'... 'Hey angel'... 'Fever dreams'... 'Killing the dragon' Black Sabbath (Dio era) songs - 'Heaven and hell'... 'Computer God'... 'Sign of the southern cross'... 'Children of the sea' Rainbow (Dio era) songs - 'Stargazer'... 'Gates of Babylon'... 'Catch the rainbow'... 'Man on the silver mountain'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
No shit, this brought tears to my eyes!! Seeing Dio reacting with his fans, just him in general and then to see you discover him brings me back to the feeling I got and still get with him❤️🤘❤️ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE listen to Temple of the King by Dio/ Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow
Welcome to the cult of Dio, lol. Ronnie James Dio is the greatest metal vocalist ever, IMO, and it's a fairly common one. As for more Dio recommendations, I'd go with Stargazer - Rainbow, Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell, and The Last in Line - Dio. All are amazing vocal performances from him.
During the earlier times, rock radio stations frequently played Dio's "Holy Diver", "Rainbow in the Dark", "The Last in Line",Black Sabbath "Heaven and Hell", and Rainbows "Man on the Silver Mountain", and these tracks never failed to invigorate me.Still love these tracks today.
Everything I've ever heard about Ronnie was he truly cherished his fans and knew they were the reason that he got to do what he loved to do. He really tore into Ritchie Blackmore for treating fans poorly. By the way Ronnie was a American from upstate New York , but his bands had majorly British members when he was on Rainbow , Black Sabbath and solo.
I think you would really like Killswitch Engage - The end of heartache (live) with vocalist Howard Jones. Really enjoying your perspective on these artist
"Holy Diver and "Rainbow in the Dark" are songs more on the commercial side. They are the two songs that got the most radio play. Rainbow in the Dark was the song that got me into DIO because I felt that Holy Diver was a little monotonous when I first heard it.
I met Ronnie on a number of occasions over the course of about twenty years and he always remembered my name and things about me. When i was 15, i saw him in Leeds, and he asked what i wanted to do when i left school, i told him i wanted to join the Royal Navy and he wished me good luck with it. Ten years later i met him again and i was amazed that he remembered my name and he asked if i was in the RN. I met him four times after that and each time he called me by name and staopped to chat for twenty minutes and more. An absolutely lovely guy!
If this rocked your boat, perhaps dive into some earlier incarnations of RJD (American fella not British). I wouls certainly recommend Mistreated (Live 1977 Munich) with the band Rainbow and anything from the Black Sabbath Albums Heaven & Hell or The Mob Rules. The man had THE most remarkable voice with very little traiing. Used to be a trumpet player so I guess that's where his breath control. Great fry, legato, distortion and vibrato - sometimes all in one. Welcome to what could possibly be the biggest rock rabbit hole you're likely to discover!! Have a fun journey, lass. 🤗🤘
Thanks Chris! I am really excited to get into Dio and Rainbow more, I feel like there’s so much more to discover. Thank you! Chuffed you’re enjoying the vids 😊🌸
This would be a great double reaction to a song Done separately course. Mistreated is a song by deep purple with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar and David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass and vocals. Ritchie Blackmore left deep purple to form a band with DIO Rainbow. So yes do Rainbow mistreated live in Munich 1977. In a separate reaction to deep purple mistreated live 1974 at the California jam. You will absolutely love both versions.
As a huge Dio fan since the 80´s i second the 1977 Munich live with Rainbow, the whole concert is fantastic. 70´s and 80´s is when he was really in his prime.
I love Dio. Melisa, can you react on Tina Turner? Are you planning to do that? Lot of singers react on Celine, Whitney, Mariah but I haven't seen anyone react on Tina. Now, I know that you react on heavy metal music but can you make an exception?
stargazer is so good. Those Blackmore harmonic scales and Dio's voice? Come on!! With the best syncopated high hat drum intro of all time. ua-cam.com/video/rVXy1OhaERY/v-deo.html

Wow. "One singer, one song"? Oof. What song could I sing? I only know weird songs! ("The Humpty Dance"? Astaire's "Night and Day"? Priest? Dead Kennedys?) That sounds seriously fun.
Ok. You got me Melissa I'm all on board. I first saw Ronnie in the late 70's with Rainbow. To me he remains thee #1 vocal metal voice ever. His story telling within his songs is legendary. Ronnie would take you on dangerous yet mysterious journeys with dragons, sea
Ronnie James Dio is our Godfather of metal singing. He can do it all, effortlessly. And he was an amazing, humble person as well. A very important voice and person in metal. Nice to see you reacting to him. Even when he was well beyond his prime like here, he was great.
When you have the time, have a listen to the band Steelheart. The best two songs would be "I'll never let you go ", and " She's gone ". The vocalist has an astounding range.

Dio is hands down one of the all time best rock/metal vocalists
Enjoy!
Thank you for this Debbie 😊💪
After Rainbow he joined Black Sabbath and then of course Dio.
RIP Dio
rl
🤘👹🤘
@@roblaw4554 I totally agree. Just a man of few words that didn't want to sound like I know everything
@Walter Hennerman Sorry, gave up modesty for Lent. Tend to natter. Seems Dio brings it out in me...
🤘
Love how you try to hit those notes that are typically out of your wheelhouse. ( even though your wheelhouse is far beyond most) it will definitely be beneficial to your future endeavors.
Great voice and love the videos.
Dio is metal. And he’s American. Born in Portsmouth NH and moved to upstate NY at a young age. Fantastic as always. Also. Check out Nightwish Phantom of the Opera with Floor Jansen singing.
I certainly will! Thanks John 😊🌸
He just launched in to the first song and with that and his expressiveness is probably the root of the phrase “All hail Dio!”
He also he had a way with fans as well. “For the artist each fan is a couple of minutes, for the fan is an opportunity of a lifetime!”
I recall him saying his warm up was half a joint and a bottle of beer.
@@mojobag01 this is true
Ronnie played the trumpet in his youth, he said it help him with his singing later.
You stole my line of words. Thanks than i know i haven't misheard it.
He was older in this performance. Try him as the vocalist for Rainbow, and the song, Stargazer.
Opeth - Porcelain Heart. Oh and of course Tool Sober live is a must. Everyone should see taht performance of him in a pink onesy singing like a crazy God.
Dio never forgot the name of a fan he met
You should check out judas priest. Rob halford is the singer of victom of changes beautiful song. And a great singer I think you would love it. And dio was a great singer will be missed forever 😢. He sang for black sabbath when ozzy went solo
Stargazer is unbelievable dudette. Plus ronnie created the horns 🤘
You are brilliant, uplifting, and lovely! Keep up the good work, My Fine Scottish Lady!
Thank you Scott 😊🌸
I look forward to Your next Metal endeavor.
given that Yell is the British Yellow Pages online, I suspect it's still up.
Edit: Dio is also known for his AD&D Metal, the best known of which is his song Holy Diver.
Rainbow - Stargazer or Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
You might also love another "Scottish" Singer - Doogie White. He fronted Rainbow in 1995. Check out him sing a Dio era Rainbow song "Temple of the King" (Live at Philipshalle, Düsseldorf 1995).
RJD was the classiest of the metal gods. He adored his fans and was so appreciative of them. He was also an extremely intelligent man and very well spoken.
I was a teenager in the 80s and have a huge regret that I never saw them in concert.
you need to check out Liliac, they do a cover of a Dio song, The Last In Line. this young lady has a voice you have to hear
Would not many people know about Ronnie James dio is he was one of the sweetest guys on the planet during dinner we sat and talked for about 3 hours just about anything and everything had nothing to do with the music had nothing to do with his singing Just everyday life it was awesome to get to know a celebrity like that
Holy diver is a must for Dio songs, as well as Heaven and Hell.
IMO Dio’s best work was in Rainbow & Black Sabbath.
My first suggestion would be “Stargazer”.
Speaking of cults, Ian Astbury from the band The Cult is a pretty decent singer in his own right. Also he is actually English unlike Dio.
Great reaction Miss Kelly... thank You! I was turned on to him when he was in Black Sabbath, then u jus followed him! Thank You...
R.I.P. Ronnie
You’re so welcome my dude ❤️😊
This song is about Ritchie Blackmore... if you want to hear the powerfull of his voice, listening "Mistreated" and "Children of the Sea" with Black Sabbath.... or the Ozzy´s versions in Sabbath "Black Sabbath" or "War Pigs" ;)
You might want to check out Liliac (pronounced Lily-Ack). Dio's drummer said the vocalist is the female reincarnation of Ronnie James Dio's voice after hearing their cover of this song.
YES! YES! YES! Thank you for checking him out. It won’t be your last time either. He was SO good.
Oh it won’t be my last 😊🌸
@@SoulSingerDiscovers I knew you would appreciate him the second he opened his mouth for the first time.
Wow from 500 subs to 2000 real quick. Your gonna have 100,000 before the end of the year. Especially when you finally get to the band TOOL
😂😂 I love your persistence! I promise 😊
Love that u are finding Dio...a great rabbithole, like Metallica, Sabaton, Nightwish, Pink Floyd...for a singer with almost zero formal training he had great instincts.
thanks for your reactions, you are fun to watch, and very insightful
Thank you Kurt I appreciate that my dude 😊🌸
Apparently as the story goes. Ronnie never had any vocal training or singing lessons.
Thank you Jeffrey! Isn’t it strange how artists can become such a huge part of your life ❤️😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Yes, it is kind of strange.
Aw man that sucks! But what a legacy to leave behind ❤️
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Yeah, I was absolutely gutted, but his legacy is truly monumental! Rest In Power!
Music is food/nutrion for the soul, but each kind is a delicacy!... enjoy it all, we all should be eclectic!....
Wow! When you said you were soul Singer, I thought you would be really good… But you are amazing! You’re one of those old-school power belters, and that really excites me! I came here for Ronnie, James Dio, but we already know how great he is. You really surprised me!
Thank you so much I really appreciate that! Took a good few years of practice but was worth it 😊🌸
These days as I have grown into an old softy, it always hits me in the tear ducts when I see Dio performing - miss that little guy with the enormous voice, in no small part because my late wife was a huge Dio fan-girl.
EDIT: Thoroughly enjoyed that reaction and am sad that I can't Subscribe again :) Mind you, you are at triple the 666 you were when UA-cam first showed you to me :D
What a beautiful story! Thank you for sharing my dude 😊❤️
I love how he keeps pointing at the audience with the devil sign like he's baptizing them with unholy water.😆
He is incredibly talented 😊🌸
I agree with others that I like Dio with Black Sabbath the best .. Heaven and Hell is just an all time classic...
Hence why Elf was the band on the Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow album.)
Ritchie also hated Elf as his backing band and fired all of them except RJD for Rainbow Rising.
Black Sabbath were occasionally mocked as Blackmore Sabbath while Ronnie was in the band, because they sounded more like Rainbow and less like Sabbath with Ronnie singing.)
Then I would check out Dio's Holy Diver album, and start with the song Holy Diver.
Dokken won that battle but Dio's Dream Evil was a close contender.)
Rainbow in the Dark by Dio is a good song.
So Vinnie was the drummer for the Heaven and Hell version of Black Sabbath.)
Also.
Sir Lord Ronnie James!
The king among the kings!
"One Singer, One Song" is so fun. We do it in our A Capella choir occasionally. 😁
Aw yes, The legendary RJD!🤘🏼 I think you’re going to be fan if not already by this song. Melisa it’s be cool to hear you cover this.
Don’t tempt me 😂 I’m already like….would people get mad if I covered this 😊💪
RIP Dio... a true bard and storyteller. Another great singer and song to check out is "Throne of Thorns" by Testament. Hope you're well. ❤
He may not have been the greatest singer ever, but his stage presence was unmatched by anyone!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Some of DIO’s best live performances are captured on the RAINBOW, ON STAGE album (1977). I love his work with this band too, of course. Try HOLY DIVER. If I ever start a DIO tribute band, I know who to call!
I want you to put me on speed dial until that day Greg 😊💪
They recorded 1 album 'The devil you know' in 2009 before Ronnie James Dio passed away from cancer in 2010 (R.I.P.)
Dio songs - 'Holy Diver'... 'The last in line'... 'All the fools sailed away'... 'Rock n roll children'... 'Hey angel'... 'Fever dreams'... 'Killing the dragon'
Black Sabbath (Dio era) songs - 'Heaven and hell'... 'Computer God'... 'Sign of the southern cross'... 'Children of the sea'
Rainbow (Dio era) songs - 'Stargazer'...
I saw Dio with Black Sabbath in 1980
They opened up for Blue Oyster Cult
It was amazing, I was 14
Everything I've ever heard about Ronnie was he truly cherished his fans and knew they were the reason that he got to do what he loved to do. He really tore into Ritchie Blackmore for treating fans poorly. By the way Ronnie was a American from upstate New York , but his bands had majorly British members when he was on Rainbow , Black Sabbath and solo.
Dio was a true legend on stage and off, so expressive with near perfect control and stage presence for days.
Falling off the Edge of the World is one of his best performances.
DIO invented the 🤘It's an old Sicilian thing.
Dio best lps are holy diver and last in line. Anything off of those 2 lps is stunning legendary music.
I love Dio. Melisa, can you react on Tina Turner? Are you planning to do that? Lot of singers react on Celine, Whitney, Mariah but I haven't seen anyone react on Tina. Now, I know that you react on heavy metal music but can you make an exception?
I love Tina turner I have been listening to her forever! I think she’s pretty metal tbh! 😂
stargazer is so good. Those Blackmore harmonic scales and Dio's voice? Come on!! With the best syncopated high hat drum intro of all time. ua-cam.com/video/rVXy1OhaERY/v-deo.html
Thank you for covering my favorite singer and my namesake. Saw him many times and he always sounded great.
I know you got a lot of recs for Japanese all women metal bands do I’ll toss in this one for one of the hard-rock variety. Band-Maid “Domination” (live). They’re celebrating 10 years together now.
I will add it to the list now! Thanks for the comment Ronnie 💪😊🌸
Hehe I see your handle has most of the greats covered. You are a man of culture. I tip my hat to you.
Wow. "One singer, one song"? Oof. What song could I sing? I only know weird songs! ("The Humpty Dance"? Astaire's "Night and Day"? Priest? Dead Kennedys?) That sounds seriously fun.
It was the best party game 😊🌸
Saw him live on The Last in Line tour in the 80s. One of a kind.
Yep a great frontman vocalist and. Musician songwriter God rest his soul.
More Dio, when??? We demand Dio!
Soon Felipe, soon 😉
Ok. You got me Melissa I'm all on board. I first saw Ronnie in the late 70's with Rainbow. To me he remains thee #1 vocal metal voice ever. His story telling within his songs is legendary. Ronnie would take you on dangerous yet mysterious journeys with dragons, sea
Creatures and your peril was almost certainly at hand. And suddenly, with a simple flick of his wand you landed safely and unharmed home.
I love these comments 😊🌸
Why is this not a film yet 😂
Even with the largest crowds, Ronnie would make you feel like he's connecting directly with you. God I miss him.
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Live @ Wacken official video)
