If you don't know about Friedman's band... one of his guitarists, Takayoshi Ohmura is freaking amazing. He was / is (?) one of the guitarists for BabyMetal. I saw BabyMetal twice, great shows, super energy. It is unfortunate that in January, one of the guitarist, Mikiko Fujioka, fell from a platform (not at a show) and died a few days later. Fujioka was a very respected and highly talented guitarist, who also played with Ohmura and the bassist BOH (also in the Kami band) and one of the touring drummers, I dont' remember if it was Hideki Aoyama or Yuya Maeta, both outstanding metal genre drummers. All of these musicians are so worth looking into if you haven't already. Thank you Marty Friedman!
Drew P. Weiner exactly. When I lived in japan I saw them live a few times and the first track the played was a wave of energy that blew me away. They seriously need more credit and more exposure.
For the last 6 or 7 years, I've listened to strictly Japanese metal/rock, much to the chagrin of my friends (you don't speak Japanese, blah blah). There are 2 bands that my husband loves; Guitar Wolf and MTH. I see MTH as RCHP on freaking crack, or speed, and thrown into a headbangers ball. Such a talented band. Guitar Wolf are the Japanese Ramones, amazing live...highly recommend.
@@jayhardin3259 Bullshit. That wasn't the reason at all. Where the hell did you get that from ?? He got tired of creating lead for thrash and wanted to do music that allowed him to be more colorful with his solos.
It's a testament to his character that he doesn't talk trash about other artists. Few people will bunt a teed-up opportunity to make fun of Creed, but Marty did. Good for him. Be like Marty, kids.
when Marty came out with that first album since he went to japan I really like it. Although, I didn't know he actually went to live there until later on. Also, Japanese music, metal or not, it's always been interesting. They're always at the forefront of something new. While the rest of the world copies or stagnate. Marty did the right thing in 'moving on' to japan.
He pretty much stayed sober throughout his career which is how he managed to do that. Also eating healthy and not drinking too much soda helps. And the biggest thing is don’t stop just because you get older.
He seems like a very nice guy. An excellent guitarist - I only know his work in Megadeth and Tourniquet though. I really hope that people would be more like him - getting excited of new things. Japanese culture is interesting - they combine sometimes things which are considered opposites (just like this kawaii metal). The metal has always been about combining things or making it differently. Metal was born because Black Sabbath wanted to play blues slowly (and one hand which was a little bit of broken because of metal). Bringing rap, folk, pop, country, classical music . it helps to keep this genre alive. We don't need 100000 bands who play songs which sound like Master of Puppets or Enter Sandman. Marty knows it. His era in Megadeth was very interesting - all the albums sounded different from each others.
I agree with Mr. Marty, we only live once why we don't get rid of our egos and try to listen to other music genres. Don't say it's bad just by listening to one or two songs.
He's living the dream! Plays guitar like a badass, speaks fluent Japanese AND lives in a Japan as a celebrity, and has a real life waifu. Goddamn Marty, you're an inspiration in more than one way..

Many Western people (and metalheads) will be shocked to find that many Japanese metalheads also enjoy pop music, gaming, manga, anime & art, very-very much. So much so that a few metal bands appeared as a tribute to those different entertainment forms. Recent example, Unlucky Morpheus is a superband created because of the shared love of Touhou Project (games) by a few great musicians. A little bit older, Animetal, a heavy metal cover band for many Anime's op/ed songs. Became famous for a short while, later Animetal USA (led by Mike Vescera) came as a tribute to the original Animetal band.

Literally, one of my biggest issues with Babymetal (and I've thought about this a lot, especially recently) is that Marty Friedman has not been approached to collaborate with them. Marty Friedman is the original bridge between Western Metal and Japanese culture, but, no, they collaborate with DragonForce, instead...
@@BadHombre1 I seriously doubt that. @@DeePal072 I don't think you have a very firm grasp on your genres if you think power metal is the 'backbone' of Babymetal's instrumentation.
