I love that you say that it’s OK if folks like to buy fixed circular needles as they need them. A lot of times in the knitting community it feels like you’re not a real knitter if you don’t have an interchangeable set. Personally, I don’t like to have to think about the joins of interchangeable needles and checking them and making sure everything is good while I’m knitting. I’ve been burned a few times and I just prefer the relative safety of fixed circulars. I really like knitters pride, and haven’t tried a chiao goo yet. But after that endorsement, I think I’ll try them out. 😉 And as always, thanks for mentioning budget options as well! Your podcast is just… so lovely. 😁 Thank you for all the work you put into each time!

Hello, I hope you have tried Chiaogoo now. I love them, knitting is a real pleasure with good material. They knit all alone ☺️, so smooth. I don't like the knit pro /pride, the joint is not good, I'm disappointed with that. Have a nice day.

@@armellec.4101yes! I’ve been knitting on straight needles for a year. 😅 treated myself to an interchangeable chiaogoo set and it’s like driving a Ferrari. Honestly couldn’t be happier. Tho if you need the 2.5mm needle you have to buy a mini cable. Both not included in set and was incidentally the first needle I reached for when I went to cast on my first sock. I went for a jumper instead only to find out that I needed a 2.5mm for the ribbing. So, swatching with 3.25mm whilst I await the additions to my new little needle family. Totally worth the money. Promise. I saved for them for a year. So I get they are pricey. But worth the wait and a few less coffees out. 😂🎉

I invested in a knitters pride interchangeable set of bamboo needles really early on when I started knitting and I have not regretted it. I think they may have changed the policy but they have replaced two sets of needles for me for free under a lifetime warranty! One because the connector broke and another because the needle broke.

On a funny note, I have a really cheap set that are similar to the Lion Brand. They really look like bamboo skewers with plastic tubes. I grabbed one while waiting for some Chiaogoos to arrive. They turned out to be delightful to work with...who knew?

I’m a tried and true Addi loyalist after knitting for more than 30 years and trying most of the other brands. The feel of the smooth tips just makes the process of knitting more enjoyable. Seems I’m in the minority here, lol! Though I do agree the ChiaoGoo cables may be superior. But for the overall knitting experience, Addi still rules in my book!

I do agree with the recommendations Tayler made in this video! If you are looking for an interchangeable circular set that won’t break the bank and you prefer sharper tips, I got the Knit Picks Options and I really love them! They are wood, but they have a slicker surface than some other wood needles I’ve tried in the past. I thought I was a metal only needle fan, but they changed my mind. For comparison, I tried the Knitter’s Pride Zing interchangeables before and I thought the tips were too blunt.

  • @Janknitz1

I went through many needles fixed and interchangeable and now I have my ChiaGoo red twist interchangeable set for ALL my knitting needs. I bought the small set, later added the mini set, and have bought large tips as needed. I have rounded out my set with varying lengths of red twist cables, connectors, and adapters and I can knit ANYTHING.
I love the sharp tips, the surgical steel, the smooth joins, and the wonderful cables. I don’t like knitting with bulky yarn so that isn’t an issue for me, but you can use adapters to go from the large red twist cables down to the smaller, more supple cables.
Some of the coatings on the nickel plated Knit Picks needles and some Addie’s chipped off, and the cables start to break at the join. But the ChiaGoo remain perfect.
I did love the knit picks wooden needles back in the day when the tips were really sharp, but hated fighting their cables. So ChiaGoo have been the ones for me.

  • @ciannacoleman5125

After getting fed up with a cheap plastic circular and not loving my straight aluminum ones I got a single fixed circular Chiaogoo. Wow, suddenly I actually *enjoyed* knitting! Saved up and bought the interchangeable set because I like trying out different patterns and yarns and decided I didn’t want to bother with collecting a ton off sets and having to wait for them to arrive every time I want to try a pattern with a size I don’t have. Plus I have found I prefer to start with a smaller cable and increase length as the project grows rather than having a 40”+ right off the bat. I am a little lazy with my needle joins so they do occasion semi-unscrew themselves, but if I bothered to tighten them “properly” they wouldn’t.
I have had my eye on the Lykke set in blue but don’t knit enough at the moment to justify it 😂

Finding the right knitting needles is such a personal thing. So far I have get to find a set that ticks all the boxes! I have all the sets mentioned as I continue on my quest! I'd add Lantern Moon for wood needles. The cord is similar to Chiaogoo. Also, good to know that Chiaogoo has amazing customer service. If something breaks or doesn't work correctly, they will replace it for free. It was so easy to have them replace some tips that came with my mini set and didn't fit correctly into the cable. I got it within a few days.

I really like the Lykkes, as I prefer a wooden needle. Bamboo needles get rough at the tips as they age, so I do not like them. Addi turbos are also quite nice-the gold cables are much better than the blue cables.

Prym Circular Brass - I recently needed a 4mm 16” circular, and I’ve enjoyed ChiaoGoo, but wanted to try another option. This Prym brass needle has been a tremendous pleasure to knit with -very slick, smooth, light, just the right amount of pointiness, very smooth join. The stitches slide easily/effortlessly. The short cable doesn’t tell me a whole lot about cable flexibility, but I do have other, longer Pryms (with synthetic ergonomic tips) that have very nice cables. I am really loving these needles, and can highly recommend.

I honestly love Prym ergonomic needles. I do feel safer with metal needles when I get to smaller needle sizes, but Prym have seemed to hold up and I feel like I have more control. On another subject, my only complaint with ChiaoGoo bamboo tipped needles, I have 2 pair that have split at the ends shortly after purchase and very little use 😢. They won't be purchased again.

I bought the Knitters Pride Dreamz Tunisian hooks last year so I knew I’d love the knitting ones for beginning. I love how they hold the yarn for newbies rather than slipping on metal. So much easier to learn. Definitely love the chiaogoo fixed I have too. I just bought the metal Knitters pride interchangeable Zings now that I understand there’s not a universal perfect needle. You’re so right. So many factors come into play with deciding which to use. I understand now why grandma and mom had boxes of needles.

For small gauge or magic loop, it is ChiaoGoo Red Lace. I could not find a 2.25mm in the ChiaoGoo, and ended up buying Knitter’s Pride Zing. I recently needed that size for magic loop, and I did not enjoy the Zings at all. The join was not good. Luckily, a yarn store near me had the 2.25mm I needed in ChiaoGoo. It made the project so much more enjoyable.

I couldn’t agree more about Chiaogoo. From steel to bamboo, I am a purveyor of all the interchangeable sets. My favorites are the minis for socks and lace.

I love my Chiaogoo interchangeable sets, I have a 4 inch tip full set, as well as the shorties in the blue case.
However, I do hate those beefy cables for the larger size needles, so I buy the adapters to screw between the needle base and the cable, so I can use the thinner cables.
I don’t typically buy fixed needles, but I did order a set of metal fixed circulars from Wish a couple years ago that have bends in the needles (curves after the join) and, honestly, I kind of love them. They have very Chiaogoo-esque cords.

I've been using the interchangeable set from knitters' pride (knit pro in Europe) for years! But I got my mom some 2mm chiaogoo interchangeables, and they're lovely.

chia goo is my go to for 9 inch circulars but for wood I go for the Ginger Knitter's pride interchangables. I have the set that goes all the way up to size 17 (12.0mm) I love the case too : )

Love my Chiaogoo needles.. but also love my Hiya Hiya.. especially the sharp ones. I find them great when there are fiddly bits to do in knitting, as I tend to not be able to pull thicker yarn thru the stitch when you have to do say, a 'kfb' or some such on the more blunter ones! The HH cables are fab too 😊

I love my ChiaGoo circulars and interchangeable circulars. I want to get more bamboo or wood circulars for the warmth, but I'm just so happy with ChaiGoo I'll fund other ways to keep my hands warm.

I'm also a big fan or Chiaogoo. My go to set of needles is my Chiaogoo interchangeable set. I have dabbled with the Knitters Pride Mindful cables for my interchangeable tunisian crochet set, and I love that those cables have no memory and the spin, so I don't have troubles with twisting cables while I work.

I'm definitely with you on Chiaogoo. Its random that you posted this now because I only just got to try chiaogoo needles about 3 weeks ago - a friend let me borrow her interchangeable set and I was immediately addicted. Ive had an interchangeable set of Dreamz for like 8 years and only ever used those. Just 2 days ago I got my own set of Chiaogoo and they are so lovely. It never occurred to me that the different brands would have different tips and whatnot because I have no lys near me and do everything online by myself. But the chiaogoos are absolutely worth it - their cable is amazing and the tips are much sharper than my karbonz, and I do a lot of lace work in fingering weight so its such an amazing difference.

I bought some knitter's pride from Hobby Lobby when i was first dabbling in knitting, then watched about a ga-zillion reviews online of different brands and settled in Chiagoo interchangeables, and have not looked back. I find them a pleasure to work with for alk my projects. I am primarily a sweater knitter and i don't do magic loop, which i have heard the magic loopers out there don't like the Chiaogoo cables for that technique. I use short circulars for my sleeves, so i bought the blue Shorties set, and it's perfect for my knitting style. Yes, im also a loud & proud on Team Chiaogoo!

I really wanted to try the Chiagoo red lace needles and got an opportunity to them finally. I ended up getting a 3mm fixed circular knitting needle that was 47" long. I know, long, but my reasoning was for 2 at a time socks and for whenever a pattern calls for 3mm sized ribbing. I was amazed at the cord as soon as I opened it and the needles themselves are extremely light. Much lighter than what I thought they'd be.

I use ChiaoGoo for my socks magic loop and love them. I also have the lykke interchangeable needles. I am getting ready to sell them. I love the needles but I don’t like the connection and I also agree that their cables are too stiff for my liking. Excellent video! Loved the information.

Love this tech nerd needle episode. Agree with the Addi and Chiaogoos. I have added to my collection some expensive Signature Needle Arts for fast picking - damn those needles are sharp and fast. Not cheap. But I invested in one of their starter packs in my favorite size (3.75mm) and now am just looking for excuses to only do projects that take a 3.75mm needle to work up. (The starter pack gives you a set of DPN, a set of straight, and a circular needle.)

I'm a very new knitter and figured I'd say since I started 4 months ago I have gotten a couple sets of the interchangeables, the first set was a mini tip set of the knit picks caspian set and had a really lovely color, I like the joins and never seemed to be an issue plus they are bamboo so nice bit of grip for some projects. I just bought a set of ciaogoo and wow what a difference! I really am glad I didn't buy too many needles separately because now I have basically every needle I will need plus my straight needle set so personally I won't be trying too many other brands or things just hope I continue to knit since it's a really enjoyable hobby!

Thanks for the great review! I have several interchangeable sets (I have a little bit of a problem). As much as I like the tips and cables of Chia goo they come unscrewed on me all the time. I have tightened and tightened and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. I don’t have that problem with any other set. My current favorite are my Hiya Hiya Steels. Very nice tips and they have a swivel cable which I love.

I also LOVE ChiaoGoo! LOVE LOVE LOVE the tips & the coated wire cables! I was very disappointed with the cables on Hiya Hiya & recently have had the opportunity to try some Addis that have come with a few kits i've purchased. The tips could be sharper, but i do like the square shape of the Rocket2's & the cables aren't terrible, but definitely, ChiaoGoo is my go-to!

I recently purchased the Chiagoo Forte set which was a mighty investment! The key attraction to these needles is the swivel metal cord. I must admit there were some problems with one cord in which the screw in part was blocked and they also packed the wrong size smaller needles but their warranty process was excellent. I don't regret spending this much but do think there are many other options that are just as good.

I love my KnitPicks Majestic Wood Foursquare interchangeable. I appreciate the warmth of the wood, I find the square needle easier to hold and the amount of slip/grip is just right for me. I knit everything on a circular needle as I find it really helps with wrist pain and hand fatigue.
HOWEVER I needed a US1.5 circular needle and bought a Chiaogoo fixed lace needle for Magic Loop and I do really enjoy them! For such a small diameter needle I found the super flexible cable so easy to work with. Since I wasn’t fighting the cable I was able to knit indefinitely without fatigue. The size 4 KnitPicks gave me much greater issue with that as the KnitPick cables, as you said, do have a bit more memory to them.
I don’t regret my KnitPicks at all - they have been great with such smooth joins - and will purchase Chiaogoo as needed for smaller needles.

My mother bequethed me her set of 1960s steel cable needles, ive never come across a modern set where the cable is steel as well as the tip. I also have a set of all plastic circulars which came free with a magazine, are probably made very cheaply in China, but are perfect for straight knitting as the cable is thicker so stitches do not distort if you knight tightly.

I so appreciate you sharing your observations on fixed circular knitting needles. I also love that you encourage people to try out different brands and find out by use which suits the individual knitter best. It’s such a frequent question in any knitting group I participate in, especially from beginners, and really one only that individual can answer for themselves. As always your advice to invest in the best tools one can afford is the best.

I recommend purchasing a single set of tips and a single cable for any interchangeable set you are considering. I am so happy I did this. I avoided spending a lot of money on a set I would have been incredibly disappointed in even though I really enjoy the fixed circulars I tried.

Hello, love your videos. I have my coffee while you drink your tea and we talk knitting. My preference is fixed all the way and I make no apologies for it. I just don't feel the industry has created an interchangable set that is reliable. My go to and frankly the maker that changed knitting for me is Addi. Truly my all time favorite and i have a bunch of different sizes with assortment of cables. My only complaint is the priniting wears off the cable after using them and you are left without a printed size. Very small issue frankly because the needle themselves are amazing. Thank you for the chat, look forward to more. 😄
