I love your in-depth review! Thank you for comparing the needles both to the old set and to other common interchangeable brands. It’s wonderful to see them next to the Chiaogoo and others. And thanks for highlighting the reasons you might want a blunter tip needle - I’d never thought about that before!
I’ve been watching you on and off for years. I’ve been a crocheter since I was a kid and I always dreamed of being able to knit, you also inspired me so much. I’ve given it a handful of tries, but I’m determined to one day get it down. I’m gonna try and learn through your tutorials and videos!:)
I don't need any more needles or want any more but I was riveted to this video . I guess i just enjoy the tools of our trade! Thank you for such an in depth look at these products. Just fascinating.
Hi Norman, I agree with you! I have 1 set of hh sharp, 1 set of kp wood and from 3 to 6.5 size of kp nova and I love them all depending what I'm knitting on. I love watching your videos!! Hugs from Italy ❤
Thanks Norman👏 My absolute go-to needles are the KnitPro Zing interchangeables but I love the fact that all the KnitPro tips and accessories are totally interchangeable. I have a few Novas and a few Symphony’s for specific projects and really appreciate that they all use the same cables etc. This looks like a really comprehensive set. Thanks again :)
I've been crocheting for a decade, and would knit every so often. I've started getting serious about it (wearables just look SO much better knitted imo) and I know the value of good tools when working with yarn, so I ended up treating myself to this set as an early Xmas present based on your review :-)
I love the Nova needles. Having spent time accumulating needle tips by purchasing just single pairs of tips in different brands and models I had already come to the conclusion that these were my favourite. I haven’t gone all out and bought a complete set, rather I bought long cables and only the sizes I use most. I also like to have more than one pair of the more common sized needle tips since I’m not a monogamous knitter and I prefer to have each project always stored with its own needles, ready to go depending on which project I want to work on , or grab and go on any given day. Thank you for the time you take in thoroughly explaining all the features. ❤
Great review as always Norman. Thank you for pointing out the benifits of short tapers. I feel like most other reviewers don't understand why short tapers could be preferred.
Another well presented and informative review. Thank you Norman ❤ My very first set of interchangeable needles purchased around 20 years ago, were the Knit pro symphony. This was after I tried some of the straights and loved them. After ceasing Knitting for a number of years, I came back to it, like many others, during COVID-19. Wow, had the range of needles, in particular interchangeables and sets increased in the marketplace. There were also many new beautiful hand dyed and kettle dyed yarns available , that I had never seen before. Really enjoying the warm feel of wood in my hands, I purchased a full set of Lantern Moon Ancestry interchangeables. In 2021, Knit Pro bought out Lantern Moon. I was very happy with my Ancestry set, with the exception that the numbering on the needles rubbed off very quickly. Lantern Moon were aware of this problem, and I was able to replace my most commonly used needle sizes where the numbers had worn off. My next purchase was a full set of ChaioGoo Twist Red Lace interchangeables, as I was looking for a more slippery needle that suited the projects I was making, with the yarn I was using. Soon venturing into sock knitting, none of my previous sets contained the finer 2.25mm & 2.5mm required, nor were the tips sharp enough, so, enter a 5” interchangeable set of HiyaHiya sock needles. I love both the ChaioGoo and HiyaHiya’s. 2 frustrations overall - When you purchase a larger interchangeable set, you will likely end up with needle sizes that you rarely if ever use. Of course, yes you can buy tips and cables separately, you simply need to do the math to figure out which is more economical. One of the attractions in buying complete sets, for me, was the storage case provided. Having a set altogether made it easier to store them and find what I needed. In my opinion, Knit Pro are catering to the Knitting community very positively, by enabling their cables to be used across any of their ranges. Also, in some of their ranges, they have introduced various colours on cables for different lengths, which makes it far easier to find what you were looking for. I have also recently purchased some of their Zing fixed 16” circulars for sock Knitting, as I prefer to work on two circulars, and economically this works in my favour, as opposed to buying extras in the other brands. So, kudo’s to Knit Pro for their overall excellence and variety.
I have found that if the "male/female" connections are the same then cables from different sets can frequently be used with one another. For instance, I've used Knitter's Pride cables for my interchangeable Tunisian Crochet hook set. And I've used my ChiaoGoo cables with other interchangeable knitting needles. As a result, I've started storing my collection of interchangeable cables in their own box with dividers separating them out according to the connection types, and cable sizes, and filed according to length.
Well done. I am a fan of and have a few needles from Knit Pro. I don’t need this set but I am grateful for the review. Great energy and your charm shines!
Another great review, thank you. I actually love this company...and agree, love that their accessories are great and interchangeable with their other sets ( and Lykke brand too).
Thank you for another thoughtful and helpful video! I really appreciate how you are consistent in your assessment and comparisons. I have an interchangeable set of wooden needles and have long been contemplating getting an interchangeable metal set as well. Your videos are giving me a lot to think about in terms of what's important to me as a knitter and what's available. Thanks again!
When I came back to knitting in 2020 after many years I bought a set of Knit Pro Zings which I have been very pleased with. I recently bought some of the swivel cables and like them. Really pleased you have reviewed the Novas as I am hoping Santa has a set for me 😊
I never got any set, up to now - I’m buying single needles and I need to admit- last 4-5 needles are Knit Pro Nova. Agree with all your remarks during the video. For now - those are my favorite.
I really appreciate your unsponsored reviews! It was thanks to one of your previous videos that I purchased a KnitPro set, because "if it's good enough for a master like Norman, it's good enough for me", and I absolutely agree with you about KnitPro needles - so enjoyable to use 🥢🥢🥢
I love this set alot, it seems so thought through with the cables and spots for everything. I just bought the nova set in the dark blue pouch (like a letter) and then this set came out a few weeks later and has the organisation I always looked for 😅. Well one cannot have everything 😂 The Novas are still really nice and i have every size I need. Thank you for your thorough reviews
Wow. Earlier this year I got fed up with the plastic pouch my nova platina needles came in (i’d frequently forget to zip it and when the pouch was inevitably upturned, then all the needles would go sliding out 😑 plus there was nowhere to put the notions and cables that wasn’t just where they’d go sliding out again…) so I ended up designing my own interchangeable knitting needle case, and spent probably 20 hours designing, prototyping, and sewing my final product. I’m quite happy with it, and I actually came up with the same solution for storing the cables as in this new bag. I kind of wish I’d waited to buy my set! Though my pouch is still quite a bit more compact, and it prevents the needles from sliding out 🙂 I keep meaning to make my plans into a PDF and share it either for free or on Etsy, but we’ll see if I ever get there.
Thanks for your review. I've used KnitPro for quite a while, but had too many problems and got the Chiagoo. 1. The stainless steel coating rubbed off fairly quickly on my favorite sizes, leaving them coppery in places. 2. The 3mm tip was actually more like 3.25, so I got the wooden 3mm(which was true to size) only to find it broken off at the base(inside my project suitcase). It is very fine, so understandable that it would break easily. 3. Because they are hollow, afew of them bent. 4. One new cable that I bought wouldn't screw on without force. It eventually had to be kept for one specific tip because it didn't fit any other. Now I use Chiagoo mostly. They are sharper(occasionally too sharp for some yarn), sturdier and the cables are much better(don't "remember " their shape). Sizes are true.
Always appreciate your reviews. You are thorough and explain everything in such detail. My first set of interchangeable needles was a Knitters Pride Dreamz Deluxe set. I purchased it about 13 years ago. I still enjoy using them but only use them when knitting with slippery yarn. My only complaint is the cables are not so good because they twist and kink when knitting with them. I almost exclusively use Chiaogoo interchangeables. A couple of years ago I purchased some Chiaogoo swivel cables and do not like them. They are thin and the connections catches the yarn. My favorite needles are the Haya Haya sharps. The only reason that I didn't purchase an interchangeable set is their cables. It was very irritating that the cables twisted when using their fixed circulars. Also didn't like that the size of the circular was printed on the cable and the print rubbed off after using them. I would love to purchase their interchangeable set if I knew their cables were improved.
What a thorough and clear review. You are such an amazing resource for solid and useful information on all things knitting. This was such a great demonstration of the pros (and cons) that I was very tempted to order a set (though I don't need any more needles). But should I ever require more, I think I may try the KnitPros. (I use mostly ChiaoGoos and Hiya Hiyas because I do mostly use smaller needles, but I find value in different needle types depending on my projects.) Thanks very much for sharing your expertise!
Norman, Always appreciate you taking the time to do a thorough review! I was on the fence for purchasing a new set, thanks for the info! (I have the old Knitter’s Pride Dreamz in plastic which I love) nice to know there are upgraded options!
All my smaller dpns needles are Nova. I like them slippery for awkward 2 mm sizes and they're not too pointed so don't split plies of fingering. Too slippery for me in bigger sizes but they do glide so I see the appeal. I prefer the Knit Pro Zing, aluminium. Colour coded and the surface is slightly gritty so the sliver tips glide in and out but the gritty paint helps hold the sts on a bit more than the Nova interchangeables. What I don't really like are the black cables that come with KnitPro sets as they're not really easy to see if you have poor eyesight. I change them out for the Knit Pro Swivel blue cables. They're really flexible and easier to see. They're a turquoise bright blue-green colour. I like the bigger more sturdy case you have there. My old knitpro cases weren't as good. I use several cases made for coloured pencils and holds a few sets all in one pencil case. As a brand I like Knit Pro stuff in general. I can't work out if Knit Picks Yarns own brands of needles are actually just Knit Pro rebranded. They seem to look the same. And similar material composition.
knitpro offers whitelabeling solutions. so they will do the manufacturing but stick whatever label you want on the needles. Knitpicks, Lykke, Drops, Lana Grossa do that. Lantern moon is owned by them.
I bought a knitting needle set from Temu. Yes, Temu is known for selling cheap crap, but I got a decent set for 30 US dollars. It came with the smaller sizes that knitpro doesn't have. The case is kinda ugly but I have another case I can use. I still have to try them out but they look just as good as the knitpro. I will let you know when I use them how they are.
I have knitters pride dreams, the only interchangable brand I own, I've had them for at least 10 years, I did find Knit Picks Options Reflections lace interchangable lace set. They're 4 inch tips and are size US 0/2mm, US 1/2.25mm, US 1.5/ 2.5mm, US 2/2.75mm, US 2.5/3mm, US 3/3.25mm, and US 4/3.5mm. I love them they're very nice to have but... While the cables are coated steel cable they are of course much finer than the standard cables and are their own special sized connections, I wouldn't recommend for magic loop because they will break where the cable enters the connector. I recently discovered they have redesigned these cables and now offer them for sale. I'll be ordering new cables soon hopefully they are a bit sturdier.
Thank you for this review, I have been using knit pro symphonie needles for many years now and have recently been trying out the Zings and the Karbonz which I love
That’s my favorite brand of needle as well. I have different types, but this is always my go to. I wish they would come out with the Ginger deluxe set in a metal needle. I really like everything about that set except for the wooden needles. I am hard on wooden needles. They do not last long for me. I bought the Ginger deluxe set, but I can’t use it. Mostly I got it for just looking pretty in my collection. I wish they would come out with that exact set in metal. I do like the slot for the scissors and I do like the way that the cables are stored. I think more companies need to come out with something like that. I agree with you that they need to actually etch the sizes in and it would be nice if they would put the sizes on the elastic. I’m sure some neat penmanship and a permanent marker world be an easy fix for putting the sizes on the elastic. Fantastic review! By the way, I really like your shawl!
Looks lovely, thanks for the review. The cable storage looks nice, depending on the size of the collection , perhaps they could put in some stitch markers that fit even larger ones or up to the size included in the set and weaving needle is a nice addition but don't use that type. ( this is minor , have stitch markers and tapestry needles :D ) Only other thing that is ever present , is their way to join two cables together , I just end up buying long cables to avoid using them. I have a preference for the chiaogoo, seeknits , hiyahiya and goldtip ones
Knitter's Pride has the Mindful Collection cables, swivel, no memory, marked at one inch increments, from an 8" to a 49" length, 20 cm to 125cm, which are always my choice. The connections have been really smooth, as well, and I appreciate being able to estimate when inventing a shawl, the finished length from the cast-on stitches,
It was thanks to your recommendation that I invested in the Nova Platina set when I took the plunge with a decent set of needles. I use them pretty exclusive at this point, and invested in their swivel cables marketed for the Mindful collection to avoid the cable memory problem. A full set of those cables (from Ebay) wasn't terribly expensive and had 7(?) sizes included. It really makes a difference.
Great review! And like you say individuals like different things. I don’t like the black color needles and the needles are probably to slippery. I would prefer a really nice bamboo
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this set. I like the wooden interchangeable. What i didn't know, was they are all interchangeable. As I'm always in need of a cable.😊
Hi Norman. Great review as always. They look nice. The prices I see for this grande set are much higher than I’ve paid for any of my other interchangeable needle sets. ChiaoGoo, Addi’s, Knitters Pride and Knit Picks. I have at least 6 or 7 sets. My first metal needles I ever bought probably about 10 years ago were fixed Nova Platina’s and I loved them. Except some of the smaller sizes were way too pointy. Then I went the interchangeable route and have way too many. 😂. These do look nice though! Thanks for another great review.😊
@@NimbleNeedles The ones I saw were between $155 and $180 USD. I paid around $115 USD for each of my ChiaoGoo’s, Addi’s. All 4 were full sets. I did see my sets for higher prices but I found them much cheaper. Oh well. Prices of everything have skyrocketed so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Have a great week!😊
I got Nova Deluxe set as my first set earlier this year and honestly satisfied with it in a big way. Case is comfy. Notions are useful. So far I deviated from it once while knitting thin cotton yarn, because Nova was too sliperry and I have some tiny ChiaoGoo for socks. But yeah, great set for it's price!
@@NimbleNeedles I think my set is from the new one, no. It’s the one listed on their website under Nova Deluxe. Your is I think called Nova Grande. The case of mine is fabric, not seud, but flat and compact. I had to travel this year for 6 weeks to my home country and wi the addition of few more smaller stand alone needles, I felt very prepared to handle any project. Also totally agree with your point that fact cable and other notions of Knit Pro work with other brand is a big plus factor. One of the additional standalone needles I got was from Lantern moon. It felt great to be experimenting with totalitarian different tool form another brand and not needing buying hole sets of things for it.
I love knitpro ranges of products. But my absolute favorite needles are the mindful collection " believe" set. They are rather sharp, with swivel cables.
Great review once again. Many thanks. I wish they would put the keys on a long chain attached to the case. For me, if nothing is on my needles, they are in the case.
I appreciate the review. Even though I love my chai goo, I don’t love the free spinning cables I got (grey in color) as they don’t all appear to have been milled correctly. With the changes in the cables and offering a spinning cable I may consider trying out the Knit pro line.
I thoroughly enjoyed your comprehensive review of these new needles. I love your posts. I have a weird question. Have you ever had or heard of oxidation of knitters pride aluminum needles that transferred on skin and yarn? I've had my needles a long time and the coating is wearing off. I've also started new meds. So, do you think it is the worn coating or meds or both? I temporarily pulled out some old wooden needles to be able to keep going. But I don't know whether to buy new needles. I asked my doctor and she was shocked that hand knitting isn't always done on a machine. 😮 Whether you have time to answer or not, I still want you to know how important your channel is to me. I live in a very rural area and have only one other knitter that I know, my daughter. So, your videos are my knitting circle.
Hmmm..I haven't hear that. I mean, by default, aluminum is ALWAYS kinda oxidized. Except in very specific lab environments, you never see it otherwise. But for that too rub off? Never heard of that. Or do you mean the enamel covering the stalks? That I could imagine
*husband waltzes in* "i see you are watching your knitting man and knitting. Is this a christmas idea?" No, because after the review I decided to keep the knitters pride wood tips I like that work for me. I'd love to see more of your "favorite things" though for other ideas!
Thanks for sharing your review. I've never tried the knitter's pride needles having stopped at Chiagoos but I hate that the swivel connection gets caught on my yarn. Will definitely have to give these a try.
Oh! I loved my Platinum Novas and bought the full Mindful Collection recently - but had I known this set was in the works I would have waited. The needles look the exact same as the Mindful Collection. The only difference is the Mindful Collection is "brushed steel" and these look to be beautifully sparkly and shiny
Also the knitters Pride cables do snap, I had to switch back to the plastic cables with heavy projects (blankets and my Daughter's cape) because the cables bent and snapped at the join. Please be Mindful! The cables area great, but for me they do NOT stand up to heavy projects and I have only had my cables for 6mths. The plastic ones I have had for 7yrs and the worst was I had to glue the ends back together when the plastic slides out (that was after 3yrs of use)
These knitting needles seem to be good in many ways. However, I have a hard time with these shiny varieties because I think they dazzle too much in the evening in the lamplight. But thanks for your review. Always educational and interesting. 😊
Hello Norman! Thank you for this excellent review - I'm new to knitting and shopping around for my first big set, and am stick between the Mindful set and this one. I love the sound of the cables and joins, and the case for this one seems nicer to me than the mindful case...but the tips in the Nova set seem so blunt compared to the mindful set! I worry I wont have as much precision in my knitting. For someone who can only really afford one set right now, would you recommend a sharper tip, or a blunter one?
Weeelll..I really prefer a sharp tip, so I'd lean towards the mindful. There are also the nova platina ...but those are only available in the US and I think they r being discontinued
Hi Norman I’m very new to knitting… like day 1 😅 and I find your videos very helpful and informative. I was looking through your page and I was wondering if you could make a video on how to knit a halter top?! That would be so cute! Thank you and I hope you see my comment.
I just got a big Knit Picks set which I love so I am not in the market for a new set. I do however LOVE the case those came in. Room for everything and it closes securely
Not sure if it's mentioned any where below but the Nova are the exact same as Drops Pro... Except that Drops' sizes are engraved, unlike KP Nova and Nova's cables are swivel (which I prefer as I'm a tight knitter) and Drops' are the old style nylon cables. I bought them cos they looked sharp on YT vids but nope... They're the exact same thing 🤦🏽♀️ I should have gone with the Gratitudes from the jump cos they were definitely the closest to the Hiyahiya that I wanted but man the grip on the Gratitudes (as a tight knitter)... Ugh... I'm so tempted to buff them but I gave in and got the Chiaogoo Lace... I have needles up the wazoo 😂
22:57 Thank you for the detailed and comprehensive review. When you were comparing the Chiao Goo cable to the Knit Pro, was the Chiao Goo the small or the large (my biggest peeve with them)? I think the bigger Chia Goo cables are just too fat and stiff, I never use the bigger needles because of that. I also love that shawl you are wearing, I kept getting distracted by it!
These Are So So Saawweett.. i have a few i bought by themselves. 2 but i accidentally bought the shorter ones. The square cubits. And i guess for the faster knitter bc i kept poking myself.. ill use my wooden square cubics.. less pain..lol..
The coating on the tip of my knitpro nova needle completely peeled off after only using it for 3 or 4 projects rendering them useless because the tip became very rough. I bought them maybe 2 years ago. I would not purchase them again, even though I liked working with them a lot. thanks for the review :)
@@NimbleNeedles I hope they improved the coating! And maybe the much older ones are a little better quality? Or I just had a bad one. I'm happy yours held up so well :)
I really love the shawl you’re wearing, Norman! Are the Knit Pro needles nickel coated? When I knit with nickel, and forget to wash my hands before touching my nose, eyes, or face, I have an unpleasant reaction. I don’t experience this with my Chiao Goo stainless steel needles.
Chiagoo needles are made of stainless steel. Stainless steel always contains at least 10% of nickel. 😊 These knitpro needles ate nickel free, as far as I know. Unlike Stainless steel.
I love that you pointed out that the stitch markers don't make it up to the 12mm. Why, if they sell 12mm needles can't they provide stitch markers that will fit their largest needles. I have a whole set of knitpro needles, but have had to search for markers that make it to 15mm (have ended up making loops of brightly coloured yarn). Love your review
9:54 I usually don’t like those tapestry needles but recently I was knitting with very chunky yarn and they did come in very handy. So it depends on the yarn.
Hello, thank you for this amazing review. Have you mentioned the length of the knitting cables? If not, can you tell us what they are, please? I had the symphonie set of 8 pairs, then I bought the nova metal missing needles one by one to complete my set. Too bad they haven't this set before, it looks so great! 🤩
There are multiple sets in this new range and they come with different cables. It should say on the package! (Sorry, currently not at home to check myself) but should be something like 40, 60, 80 cm
Norman, what is the coating on the needles? Is it plastic as I’m sure you said it makes them very slightly ‘sticky’. I bought the full range of 9” circular Nova needles for my sock knitting and was so disappointed when knitting the first sock, the copper was shining through on the tips and I was only half way down the first sock (top to bottom). I thought it was maybe a faulty needle so I tried another one ( I bought 4 x the 2.25mm for knitting multiple socks), but the silver came off again. I also bought 4mm interchangeable Novas and again, a little way into knitting a sweater, the copper - or brass - was shining through again. I also returned 2 x 9” circulars to the shop as they were very bumpy at the tips. I was so let down because they are beautiful to knit with. I’ve since bought a wallet of Chicago red lace needles but they’re not as nice as the Novas. 😢
I bought a single fixed chaigo…..that’s the closest I ever owned. Love it. I can’t afford my own. But I would like several cords….. I always have several projects.
You might want to take a look at yard sales, ebay, etc. Sometimes there is quite a bargain to be had. To put it quite bluntly, a lot of older women knit...and then one day the heirs need to dispose of stuff they don't need 🙈
@@NimbleNeedles I am one of those old ladies. Around her in the middle of the USA they might sell off the yarn but they’d keep the knitting needles in the family. I think knitting is more prevalent throughout Europe. Thank you for the advise. It’s ok. Most of this stuff was none existent in America when I was young. Including the internet, sell phones, etc. aluminum, stiff plastic cord circular needles were all they had. I hated them. Knitting was becoming a forgotten art. But not so now. You keep up the good you do. You are awesome.
The easy way not to lose metal interchangeable keys, connectors, stitch markers etc. is to keep them on a magnet - for example Rattle or Torpedo magnet toys for children are very inexpensive.
Norman, this is off topic but I need to know...On your "10 sock knitting tips" video, the socks you were modeling..."Is that a Latvian Braid at the beginning of the heel flap"? What ever you did I gotta know...:)...beautiful touch that.
Thanks so much for the review. Would the old cables be compatible with this new set of needles? I’m asking because I’ve collected a lot of them! (Apologies if you covered this and I didn’t catch it)
You make good points on who would enjoy these needles and who might appreciate some other more. I definately like most of your pro´s for these. But unfortunately, 3 is my most used needle size, occasionally i might need smaller ones. Especially i´d like to have 2,75 to put on my left hand needle. But not much options for that. Hiya hiya i don´t see anywhere on the market right now. I like Chiagoo otherwise, but not the need for 3 different cable sizes or need to have connectors to make it work. I´m currently working with the only needs i can find locally on shops, and i absolutely hate the needles. So i´m seriusly looking for better options.
Looks like lovely needles. I recently bought Lyykes. I haven't bought Knitters Pride in many years. I'm a ChoGoo spelling. Sorry, girl, I'm myself. Those look cool, though
@@NimbleNeedles I use the cords from Lantin Moon that turn for you so they don't slap your face, lol. I still use some of my square 5” KnitPro/ or Knitters pride, I love that the cords can be used with several needles. Be well anotman. Happy Hoildays. Love that they added swivals to their cords.
You are a precious gem in the knitting realm. You've made my choice easy.
Aww.. thank you ❤️ 😊
Couldn't agree more 💖
I've just found this year's Christmas present to myself. Thank you for this in depth review and the time you obviously put into it.
Black Friday is near. Maybe there is even a bargain to be found!
I love your in-depth review! Thank you for comparing the needles both to the old set and to other common interchangeable brands. It’s wonderful to see them next to the Chiaogoo and others. And thanks for highlighting the reasons you might want a blunter tip needle - I’d never thought about that before!
Knit Pro karbonz are my go to needles, absolutely love them, look good, feel good, can be used forever even with heavy use, have a good day everybody!
I love the slickness of the Nova needles. The range of sizes in the set is huge. I also love the cable storage.
Another great review. You are so thoughtful and acknowledge how different knitters may enjoy different types. Well done.
Yeah, that's what I really like about them as well. You get sooo many possibilities
Thanks I just realised that i can say thanks for your help without adding to my growing pattern stash ! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Heh! That you can. Thank you for supporting my work ❤️
I love the bold font to show the needle size. They seem to be nice, I might have to purchase them. Thanks for another great review😊
Those are nice, yes. But remember, they will eventually rub off. So, I am leaning towards saying it should not be your sole reason!
Thanks for another informative review, Norman. Always such a pleasure.
Super-interesting review again. Thank you from England.❤🎉
Well done. I am a fan of and have a few needles from Knit Pro. I don’t need this set but I am grateful for the review. Great energy and your charm shines!
Great review Norman! Thank you for taking the time to show us. I’ve never bought their needles, but these look great.
Thank you for your take on these new needles. I appreciate your talent and knowledge.
When I came back to knitting in 2020 after many years I bought a set of Knit Pro Zings which I have been very pleased with. I recently bought some of the swivel cables and like them. Really pleased you have reviewed the Novas as I am hoping Santa has a set for me 😊
I can't wait to get a set!! Thank you for the thorough review!! Perfect as always! ❤
Very happy to hear that!
I love this set alot, it seems so thought through with the cables and spots for everything.
I just bought the nova set in the dark blue pouch (like a letter) and then this set came out a few weeks later and has the organisation I always looked for 😅.
Well one cannot have everything 😂
The Novas are still really nice and i have every size I need.
Thank you for your thorough reviews
Ah..bad luck but i guess the needles are all the same 😅
Thanks Norman! 😘
How ingenious! That certainly sounds pattern worthy. Tho, it might be a lot of work with few customers, now. 🤔
Would you be willing to part with the plastic case from your Novas?
Knit Pro recently announced that they are merging their Knit Pro and Knitters Pride into one worldwide entity - they’ll all be Knit Pro going forward.
Yap. Tho my source at knitpro said it might take another month for them to make the switch...tho that was 3 weeks ago 😅
Glad you found something that works for you. All my chiagoo needles are just gathering dust 😅
😢
You really are a hero, Norman! Thank you so much for your amazing content, I always look forward to your knowledgable videos
It's my impression that they improved quality control quite a bit. Previously it was quite normal to have one or two sloppy needles in a set
Well, these new cables don't twist, so maybe it's something for you
@@NimbleNeedles thank you. I trust your reviews. They are well researched.
Thank you for your lovely feedback 😊
Norman, Always appreciate you taking the time to do a thorough review! I was on the fence for purchasing a new set, thanks for the info! (I have the old Knitter’s Pride Dreamz in plastic which I love) nice to know there are upgraded options!
Thank you for sharing this needle set with us. I like to hear what you think about different brands of needles.
I am buying two sets through your link in the article, one for me and one for my DIL❤
Thank you so much for this excellent review. ❤
okay now i know what i wish for Christmas 😀 Thank you for this Video.
Wonderful review. Thank you!!!! Your opinion matters to me. ❤❤❤
Interesting and very thorough review, thank you. I had a look at my hiya hiya needles comparing all the details you talked about. Thanks
Thanks for this review. Your shawl is so wonderful, I am looking forward to kint it, just have to finish baby knitting ...
Take your time 🥰
I have knitters pride dreams, the only interchangable brand I own, I've had them for at least 10 years, I did find Knit Picks Options Reflections lace interchangable lace set.
Don't have any longterm experience with these yet (obviously). But I keep my fingers crossed
Thank you for this review, I have been using knit pro symphonie needles for many years now and have recently been trying out the Zings and the Karbonz which I love
I love the karbonz as well!
I guess every knitter dreams of that ONE perfect set 😅
Looks lovely, thanks for the review. The cable storage looks nice, depending on the size of the collection , perhaps they could put in some stitch markers that fit even larger ones or up to the size included in the set and weaving needle is a nice addition but don't use that type. ( this is minor , have stitch markers and tapestry needles :D ) Only other thing that is ever present , is their way to join two cables together , I just end up buying long cables to avoid using them. I have a preference for the chiaogoo, seeknits , hiyahiya and goldtip ones
I've never thought to check my measuring tapes. But you can be sure I will now be checking every one!
Tho, you kinda need a good and reliable reference. Else you wouldn't know which one is right or wrong 😅
Knitter's Pride has the Mindful Collection cables, swivel, no memory, marked at one inch increments, from an 8" to a 49" length, 20 cm to 125cm, which are always my choice. The connections have been really smooth, as well, and I appreciate being able to estimate when inventing a shawl, the finished length from the cast-on stitches,
Yap. I think these are more or less the same cables...just black and not blue
The nova platina are different needles tho. Their tips are quite a bit sharper
Great review! And like you say individuals like different things. I don’t like the black color needles and the needles are probably to slippery. I would prefer a really nice bamboo
They do have wooden needles as well..and you can combine them with thr some cables. Just saying.
Also pro tip, I use the elastic in between the needles to store some of my rouge wooden needles, I bought without a set.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this set. I like the wooden interchangeable. What i didn't know, was they are all interchangeable. As I'm always in need of a cable.😊
Yeah, they r
Really? Must be some exchange rate thing. The sets are very affordable here in Europe 🤔
Thank you, a great review.
I agree..tho, I think your set might differ from this new edition?
Yes, those are nice as well and I covered them here on my channel already
That was great! Thank you so much!!
Good in-depth review, thank you.
I appreciate your thorough
Great in-depth review ☺️ Thank you
Great review once again. Many thanks.
I wish they would put the keys on a long chain attached to the case. For me, if nothing is on my needles, they are in the case.
You can thread them through a stitch marker and attach those two the case
I appreciate the review. Even though I love my chai goo, I don’t love the free spinning cables I got (grey in color) as they don’t all appear to have been milled correctly. With the changes in the cables and offering a spinning cable I may consider trying out the Knit pro line.
It's definitely worth a try if you like swivel cables. Tho, the knitpro mindful will be closer to chiagoo in terms of needles
Thank you😊
I thoroughly enjoyed your comprehensive review of these new needles.
Heh...well.. you could drop hints of your favorite color and yarn...🤔❤️🙈
Thanks for sharing your review. I've never tried the knitter's pride needles having stopped at Chiagoos but I hate that the swivel connection gets caught on my yarn. Will definitely have to give these a try.
Maybe check out my review of the knitters pride mindful collection. Same cables but stainless steel needles
Thanks for the review!
Great review! Thank you!!!
Oh! I loved my Platinum Novas and bought the full Mindful Collection recently - but had I known this set was in the works I would have waited.
The needles look the exact same as the Mindful Collection. The only difference is the Mindful Collection is "brushed steel" and these look to be beautifully sparkly and shiny
Any word on the Nickle content in the metals??
That they do. I don't mind but I can see why some would be bothered by that!
Norman, thank you for this lovely and comprehensive review. ♥️I’m excited about these needles.😍
I love those needles that do not curl! I never tried the swivel needles. Maybe, someday
Hmm..I don't quite see this coming anytime soon. Thank you for your suggestion, tho!
I just got a big Knit Picks set which I love so I am not in the market for a new set. I do however LOVE the case those came in. Room for everything and it closes securely
Yeah, I mean it's maybe a bit too big for my taste but it sure is an upgrade and very nice!
They're the exact same thing 🤦🏽♀️
I should have gone with the Gratitudes from the jump cos they were definitely the closest to the Hiyahiya that I wanted but man the grip on the Gratitudes (as a tight knitter)... Ugh... I'm so tempted to buff them but I gave in and got the Chiaogoo Lace... I have needles up the wazoo 😂
Yes, drops and knitpicks cone from the same factory, afaik
22:57 Thank you for the detailed and comprehensive review. When you were comparing the Chiao Goo cable to the Knit Pro, was the Chiao Goo the small or the large (my biggest peeve with them)? I think the bigger Chia Goo cables are just too fat and stiff, I never use the bigger needles because of that. I also love that shawl you are wearing, I kept getting distracted by it!
The thin one is knit pro
These Are So So Saawweett.. i have a few i bought by themselves. 2 but i accidentally bought the shorter ones. The square cubits. And i guess for the faster knitter bc i kept poking myself.. ill use my wooden square cubics.. less pain..lol..
S-e I bought new needles whole set a couple of months ago. Now I wish I have known about this.
The coating on the tip of my knitpro nova needle completely peeled off after only using it for 3 or 4 projects rendering them useless because the tip became very rough. I bought them maybe 2 years ago. I would not purchase them again, even though I liked working with them a lot.
thanks for the review :)
Tho, this is a new set. Interestingly enough, the coating of my very old nova needles still had not come off...and it's been 15 years, at least
@@NimbleNeedles I hope they improved the coating! And maybe the much older ones are a little better quality? Or I just had a bad one. I'm happy yours held up so well :)
Die Stopfnadeln mit der Schleife als Öhr sind super, um Kordeln einzuziehen.
Jau, aber für sockengarn eher weniger 😅
I really love the shawl you’re wearing, Norman! Are the Knit Pro needles nickel coated? When I knit with nickel, and forget to wash my hands before touching my nose, eyes, or face, I have an unpleasant reaction. I don’t experience this with my Chiao Goo stainless steel needles.
Chiagoo needles are made of stainless steel. Stainless steel always contains at least 10% of nickel. 😊
These knitpro needles ate nickel free, as far as I know. Unlike Stainless steel.
I think the nova needles are made of copper and coated with nickel.
This is the information from the german knitpro shop.
Yeah...it kinda doesn't make much sense. But then again, I never buy a set for these markers either. So I kinda don't mind regardless
9:54 I usually don’t like those tapestry needles but recently I was knitting with very chunky yarn and they did come in very handy. So it depends on the yarn.
I agree, for those it can be handy. I never knit with bulky yarn, tho 🙈🙈
Never thought to measure a tape measure,I will be checking in future
Mercii pour votre vidéo ❤
Hmm...for me, this typically only happens after years. 😓
What ever you did I gotta know...:)...beautiful touch that.
no, it's a special kind of cable. Not braid.
Also Lykke and Knitters Pride cables are interchangeable... my child and I share the plastic cables as she prefers my abandoned Lykke needles...
Thanks so much for the review. Would the old cables be compatible with this new set of needles? I’m asking because I’ve collected a lot of them! (Apologies if you covered this and I didn’t catch it)
Yes, they totally are!
Perfect, thank you!
So i´m seriusly looking for better options.
yah...hiya hiya feels almost like they closed down :(
Looks like lovely needles. I recently bought Lyykes. I haven't bought Knitters Pride in many years. I'm a ChoGoo spelling. Sorry, girl, I'm myself.
Those look cool, though
Knitters pride and lykke are interchangeable
@@NimbleNeedles I use the cords from Lantin Moon that turn for you so they don't slap your face, lol. I still use some of my square 5” KnitPro/ or Knitters pride, I love that the cords can be used with several needles. Be well anotman. Happy Hoildays. Love that they added swivals to their cords.
