Irish here. And he brings the easy genius of the ordinary English and carries it on. It is beautifully English. The voice, movements , these lepping movements, remind me of your folk dancers backed by the massive breadth and depth of African almighty genius. The circle. A celebration. If only you didn’t have your ruling class you would be the best. I would more easily bow in homage. But. Thanks for the huge massive feast you give.

Our daughter has been estranged from us since 2019 and just a couple of days ago I kept listening to this song and listened some more and today my husband came back from walking the dog and said he had a text from our daughter asking if he would like to meet to watch the premiere league opener this was her way of reaching out to us…..it wouldn’t matter even if she wanted to meet us on the moon we would try to make it happen. Thank you for this song Peter our daughter heard you like yours did you are truly out of this world. Much love from a 73 year old fan.

I had no idea... and I'm in tears. I didn't know this song was intended for his daughter, but it's now very clear. I feel like such a dope. I always thought it was intended for an break up with a girl friend. I have had a painful rough patch with my daughter for several years. Dads are just supposed to suck it up, and as far as she knows that's what I've done. I've been listening to i/o recently, all the mixes, and it speaks so deeply to me, especially And Still, since I just lost Mom in July. But THIS song, from the past, I even saw this tour and didn't know what it was about! I guess I was meant to stumble on it today.
At the end of this month, I'm flying to see her play her trumpet with her jazz band. It's a rehearsal, but it's going to be wonderful. She's 31, has been playing since she was a Freshman in High School... and I've never seen her play. This will mark the first time. And hopefully there will be a little healing.

I still have my original ticket stubs from this concert. I was blessed enough to see it twice, in two different cities.
The first performance was in in Rochester NY. From what I remember, it was the first official stop of the tour. At the start of the show, Peter said something to the effect of "This is our first time performing this live. We'll give it our best."
This concert spoiled me, and raised the bar quite high. It was, by far, the best live performance of any kind that I had ever seen up to that point in my life.
Peter had such overwhelming respect for the opening band. Just before they came on, Peter strolled right out onto the center stage. The house lights were still on. He got everyone's attention, and then he introduced "Papa Wemba," with grand enthusiasm, glowing respect, and swelling pride.
That moment, set the tone for the rest of the show.
By time the opening band had finished, they had proven, to me anyway, that they were worthy of such a fantastical introduction.
By pure chance, I was in Toronto, about a week later, with a friend. Peter was playing at the Skydome. I conjured up two awesome tickets, and I watched the entire performance all over again. At this show, he played Biko, to end the show. He did not do this in Rochester, so it was a very welcome surprise.
Peter Gabriel does not just sit there, play music, and sing. When he performs, he puts on a show.
Peter is a magnificent musician, and a talented artist. One of my personal favorites of all time. I've seen him perform somewhere north of half dozen times in my life. Inside, outside, and lakeside.
I got lucky once, and I was able to meet Tony Levin, after a small show that he played with his band. It was winter in Western New York, and the weather in Rochester was cold and blustery.
I remember feeling a little bad, because the band drove a van to the show, through the cold and the snow, to get to Rochester. I also believe they drove back home that night, after it was over. The roads were not anywhere near good.
The show was at a small club, long gone now, in the city. It was called "Milestones." I went with my two very friends. We were three, out of maybe fifty or so people in the club. We sat in tall bar chairs, around a tiny tall bar table, not more than ten feet from the stage.
From that vantage point, I was blown away when Mr. Levin started to weave his magic around an awesome rendition of "Back in New York City."
I purchased a Tee shirt from the Secret World Tour. I wore it until the threads just weakened, then finally broke. I was able to wear (what was left of it) to the "Growing Up" Tour in Cleveland. The shirt was a just over a decade old at that point. It was on it's last legs, but I wore it proudly.
I went to the "Growing Up" Tour in Cleveland in 2002. I purchased a new shirt. My wife was glad to see me retire the old one. It was a quality shirt, but once again, I have worn it countless times. Hundreds, easily. The collar is stretched out, it has a few small out stains. There are even a few tiny holes in various places. This shirt has also been around for over a decade.
It's time for another new shirt. I can only hope that their is another tour yet to come, otherwise I'll be wearing rags.
Others have used the words, "Pretty much the greatest thing I have ever seen," in reference to this video and this concert. I would never dream of disagreeing. Peter Gabriel has impressed me every single time that I was lucky enough to see him perform. Awesome memories that I will cherish forever.

I was fortunate enough to see Peter Gabriel in LA and San Diego back in the 80's. He is an imaginative artist and the consummate professional. After the concert in San Diego, I was lucky enough to get back stage and meet Tony Levin and the band and he volunteered to take us to meet Peter Gabriel. They were so friendly and kind. All true gentlemen.

I was absolutely catatonic just taking everything in. I've been to a lot of shows and they're usually 3-6 dudes most of them just standing around and playing the hits. Frank, I listen to PG alot lately, during this time of Covid. And especially this week, because I know that PG is a strong supporter and fighter for human and civil rights worldwide. I live in Minneapolis and last week, we lost yet another innocent black man to police aggression
It makes me incredibly sad for George Floyd, his family, and our country. When I am emotionally spent once again, I listen to PG. His music soothes me and gives me hope. His heart for his fellow human beings gives me courage to go on.

1993 to 2023. Seems like only yesterday that I showed up to the San Diego concert without a ticket and scored a free first row. Yes, the Come Talk To Me was the best use of stage to date that I had ever seen. So weird to now see Bic Lighters instead of cellphone lights. But PG doesn't disappoint. 2023, Denver concert (again without a ticket but found one) proved he is still great at visuals. The songs stand on their own, add his performances and you have consistent great value. Thanks PG and everyone else who makes these memorable performances.

Mr. Gabriel is my Master in global arts, maybe he invented the global pop song, and this is one of his best pieces, a truly world music song with valuable lyrics, a pure gem of human creation, a legacy for the future, one of the most beautiful songs in the world in my opinion. Its greatness is that can apply in a situation between a man and a woman and not only to father and daughter. Lots of nice details like in a good film.
