You can chill quicker and colder by freezing blocks of sterile and prepped water, to add to the wort. Use your chiller to get as far as it can, then add ice.
Not all freezers make ice the same temperature. Ice from a deep freeze could be -18 C, while from your refrigerator(newer ones) it may only be -5 C....so you can scoop your ice cream lol

I can't get lower than about 26 with my chiller with the warm tap water in Western Australia! I just let the GF30's do the rest. Doesn't take too long for them to drop down to lager fermentation temp. Iechyd da o Awstralia!

Love a HomebrewGriffo notification 🍻 brilliant video as always pal 👌 cheers for the tips! After the failure of the pilsner/ lager style beer we did on our channel this will help alot when we next give it a try! Gotta give it to Grainfather they make some cracking stuff 👌 looking forward to the next beer! Enjoy the rest of your weekend 🍻

Just brewed a nova lager citra lager with nova lager yeast and OMG ! Was so impressed. Pressure fermented it ,tried it on kegging day ( just for video content of course 😜) and it tasted lagered. It’s now on tap a time later and it’s absolutely beautiful. Another great vid cheers 👍😜

Perfect timing my friend. I've spent an hour this morning, researching a decent Pilsner recipe.
I'll get this brewing some time in the near future, hopefully.
    Cheers!

Awesome setup now. Looking like you have it nailed.
I'm getting closer to sorting my setup, you'll be the first to know when it's ready.

It's been so long since I've used whole hops in the boil, I thought you were adding broccoli at 2:18

Using the Grainfather conical and using the cooling option, isn’t there a minimum volume so that all the glycol collar is submersed , on the video it appeared right on the limit?

Yeah I think about 19 Litres covers the glycol area 👍

I'm hoping to do my first pilsner this week so this is good timing for me. Would you raise to 18c for the diacetyl rest even if FG hadn't been reached, or doesn't it matter?

Yes, from what i understand is it should be whilst the yeasty boys are active as opposed to dying off 👌🍺

4 days seems short for a lager fermentation on the s23. I’d be 9 days or so before going for the rest

I thought the same but what I understand is that you need to diacityl rest as the yeast is still active, as opposed to ending. Proof will be in the tasting though 🙌🍺😅

Hi! Using “days” to decide when to ramp temperature isn’t really ideal. You want the beer to be just over halfway to fg in order to ramp up temp. Ideally you will need to take samples. I would leave it for at 5 days at Drest - then do a “vdk” test to see if diacetyl is present cheers!
