***** That's because he plays Isaac every day pretty much, every game looks like Isaac for him now. Also he can use Lanius to fight people in my opinion
2 minutes into the video, and NL has already almost lost 2 crew members to oxygen deprived rooms while having a lanius standing there who could have repaired things without any risk. "Clutch oxygen management" Kappa
Murphy's law strikes once again! "I feel very confident about this run" ended up in flames. "I think this is the one, guys" in flames. "I am gonna be honest with you guys, I don't think we are going to win this one" SUCCESS!!
Good run Ryan, great progress! Some suggestions as usual: 1 - At the last sector: If the location you're jumping to is glowing red then you want to avoid it, it's overtaken by the rebels. That fight is tough and the prize is only 1 fuel every time, that's the one you jumped to that had ASB if you recall. 2 - Just wanted to emphasize that combat and repair experience is valuable so enemy boarding parties are actually useful if you use them to your advantage. Suffocation is useful for weakening them, but every enemy combatant killed by suffocation is one less combat/repair experience earned. 3- The Lanius doesn't need oxygen so might wanna get used to using him for hull breaches and oxygen damage, that way you don't have to micro his health. I hope that helps.
Ryan, you should rearrange the order of your weapons. When the weapon room takes damage, the weapon on the far right goes offline first. Which means you want charge weapons and weapons with long recharge time on the far left. Just drag and drop on the weapon bar.
there's a lot about this game that he doesn't understand. like if he takes out the flagship's triple missile launcher his shield can basically negate all other damage.
Congratulations! By the way, shooting a weapon really speeds up the draining of cloak. When the Flagship is shooting rockets and then power surges, please, don't shoot anything or the cloak will disappear faster!
Congratulations, NL. But when you let one ship get away and the second one almost made it (because you paid zero attention to a huge ass warning sign that the enemy charges FTL drive), I almost punched my monitor.
I love watching you as you progress through this series. You are learning quickly. I dont know if anyone pointed it out but you kept letting your Lanius twiddle his thumbs and then sending regular crew into rooms with no oxygen. Lanius is perfect for that job. Including slowing down boarders in oxygenless rooms.
GG NL. But... On the rebel flagship, do NOT prioritise shields over taking out weapons, if you have a missile launcher. Taking out the shields allows lasers and beams in to do damage and destroy the ship faster, but you don't need to kill the ship fast if its weapons are offline. More importantly, the weapons are isolated, so if you take out the crew manning it, the system can never be repaired, and is permanently out of your hair.
For the Unlock Achievements you can do the repair from 1hp very easy. Just find an asteroid field near a store.Finish the encounter there, then just sit there with shield and engine turned off till they bring you down to 1hp then quickly put everything back up and fly to the store.
It wouldn't hurt to invest in a Tier 2 Piloting Sub System. It can withstand more damage before the ships evasion drops to zero, and frees up the pilot for essential repairs without leaving the ship like a sitting duck.
Damn, that was a nailbiter! Great job targeting the weapons on that flagship fight. Of all the runs where you got to the final boss, I would not have expected this would be the one where you'd make it. Nice.
"Is there anything we should get rid of for Halberd beam?" *mouses over Artemis and Chain Laser* "Not that i can think of" Unfathomable amounts of wut.
I'm baffled he didn't realize that lack of oxygen is the reason fires don't last long on unmanned drones... he needs to learn a bit more about O2, I'm afraid.
Guys...I'm pretty sure he was joking about the oxygen on the unmanned ship. He knows how oxygen works. What he doesn't know is how to use a Lanius crew member properly! Translator literally just stood there the whole time when he could have been VERY helpful in a lot of situations.
hacking the medbay makes it an acid room, if there's crew inside it will fry the shit out of them. and they cant get out fast enough because doors are locked. its good for when you boarding and 2 people just escaped to the medbay like chickens - so you deepfry them.
I cried several times over the course of this episode 10. just the lanuis neglect man. and the fact that he MOVED the lanius out of the way when there was a hull breach. oh, NL you're so bad. :P
Small note for future runs against the flagship: In the final phase, it mentions "They diverted power to their teleporter", that is the system that controls that big blast of energy shots. Take it out before/when you get the "Power Surge" warning and you will neuter their strongest attack.
Hey NL, just a tip, if you ever run into a fight again like the one around 39:50 jump away as soon as you can, one fuel is not worth that much trouble to you, especially that late in the game.
NL, you really didn't take advantage of your Lanius crew member throughout the game. If a system doesn't have oxygen in it and it's broken, don't send in the engi, send in the Lanius since they don't take damage of lack of oxygen! Also, using the Lanius in addition to suffocating enemy boarders will not only hasten the process of killing them, but they will stop shooting at the doors to get out of the oxygen-less room to shoot at the Lanius, minimizing the amount of door micro you need and quickening the death of an boarders. All in all, gg. Real close game!
NL there's an easy way of getting the repair achievement. You have to get to an asteroid field, unpower your shields until you are at 1 hull (of course you power your shield then). Then you find a shop and fix everything, I did this yesterday and it took me 2 sectors to get it. Is an easy task that you can try offline and then record your first Type B run!
This is a great series. And tip: the lanius is great when repairing. They can repair oxygen deprived rooms with no harm to itself, so the Lanius is great to repair busted door subsystems and O2 systems.
Great job northern! A little suggestion, you should take advantage of your lanius crew mate. Send him to repair hull breaches because he doesn't care about oxygen. I usually put him non oxygen room in case people try and invade it. He's also good for fires.
So many tips, hope you look at them NL. I will toss one in myself. I noticed you clicking individual crew members in the same room to send them to med bay, you can click drag and select several members much like any RTS to move them en masse to a room to repair/attack/heal up.
Just to offer about hacking the medbay, (I think it's mentioned at about 9:40) it will drain the enemy health while your hack is active instead of healing. Can be super useful if you have a boarding crew. I would also like to whisper three things into your ear about the rebel flagship. 1. The super scary triple missile launcher is the second weapons system from the right. 2. It is manned by one enemy crew member. 3. On easy difficulty there are no doors on that room. Do with this information what you will. Long days and pleasant nights.
On normal (can't speak for hard, haven't tried it yet) there are no doors on the flagship's weapon rooms. They are all isolated, thus making them easy to take down if you kill the crew member in them.
That was fantastic to see, and in a situation where I actually dared to doubt you might be able to pull it off! If it were me, I'd try to stay on easy while you unlock some more ships, keeping in mind that winning with the next ship on the list (Zoltan cruiser in your case) unlocks the one after (I THINK that's the mantis, but it's not in front of me now). I'm confident that if you have anything even remotely close to your previous Zoltan ship that you lost to Flagship 1 with, you would trounce all 3 Flagships handily.
If you get a Lanius crew member, keep him tucked in a room that's out of the way so your crew members don't take damage when they walk through the Lanius' oxygen-deprived room.
I actually like to keep my Lanius tucked in the O2 room. To me that is the most important room on the ship. If the O2 goes, everyone is screwed. Whereas any other system can be easily repaired. So lanius in my O2 room to keep fires from getting to my oxygen system.
Sakura shirakawa As someone that likes to play Zoltan B a lot, I tend to leave him manning the doors. It's out of the way and right next to an airlock, anyway.
@9:30 NL, the value of hacking the med-bay is that people who are healing will lose health when med-bay is hacked. Also, they will be unable to get out due to the passive door ability of hacking. This makes it very effective if you are doing offensive teleportation, which is one of the best strategies, because killing all people on their ship yields more scrap than blowing up their ship.
29:50 - AI Controlled Rebel ships do not have any Oxygen in their ships, so fires are extinguished almost instantly. Boarding is also dangerous as all rooms may not be connected via doors.
NL the reason you hack medbays is if you don't have the weapons to kill crew, you can damage them and force them into the medbay, then hack it which seals them in, and activating it actually damages the crew members inside it. So its an additional way of killing crew and getting better rewards, basically.
Wooooooooaaaah! Congrats NL! =D If I may remark though, good sir, you had a lot of oxygen scares but the whole time you had a crew member who didn't need to breath. Consider if you can the many utilities offered by the Lanius. He just stood there the entire episode while you were playing oxygen games with invaders and worrying about repairmen suffocating in breaches.
man, i cant believe that he did it, yet this was a terrible run from a crew stand point, could used the lanius to help solve some problems, like fire and breachs
You're making a lot of progress, but you need to learn boarding 101. When enemies teleport in the room where your lanius is, don't send him away and open the door to let them breathe (at something like 5:00 in this video). Just use the huge advantage given by the lack of O2 to kill them faster. Lanius are perfect to counter boarders and you didn't use him.
(the part a little later when your mantis dies because two rockmen boarded your medbay and you let them go to the next room... seriously, if enemies are in the medbay, go fight them here, they're screwed)
speaking of which why do you even bother cloaking for their droneswarm in stage two if you IMMEDIATELY after bring yourself out of cloaking by shooting at them?
Wow that was a nail-biting ending NL! I think you could have made some better decisions but congratulation anyway on your success...can't wait to see more.
Very lucky! Some info for getting layout B, you could sit in an asteroid field and take consistent damage so that you get to 1 HP as long as you know a store is nearby. I'm glad you realized about dodging the missiles at the end, it made a difference. Good run overall :P - id like to see a Zoltan victory next with you trying flak or the Glaive beam or Halberd beam.
I've noticed on the flagship that although shields seem like the most likely target, they are constantly repaired by a lot of units. While their weapons, although compartmentalized, only have one unit and are not accessible by more units. I would lambast their weapons with missiles early on in hopes of killing them and their unit. Especially their missile weapons. Those suckers are nasty. Good luck and god speed, Lion.
GJ NL,you got lucky, unlucky, made lots of bad moves, made lots of good decisions and ended up winning. You deserve this.I was sure you where going to let the lanius destroy your ship but to my surprise you identified the hazard and dealt with it properly, great job.
Good job NL! That fight requires either a ton of luck or a lot of prior knowledge. I'm tempted to give some very strong tips for fighting the flagship but nearly everyone already has (some tips less critical than others). It's probably frustrating getting critique from that many people, so I think I'll wait for your next FTL session to see if you've learned the important stuff. I will say that your fight against the flagship could have gone a lot better, your struggle was largely due to inexperience rather than bad RNG.
Nice run NL. This was the run i thought had the lowest likely hood of winning with the weapons you had. and it was great to hit those 3 lasers in a row to get the kill. 3 coin flips in a row FTW
proud of you NL, you really pulled this one through though you should still try to upgrade your shields to max, that couldve made the difference between life and death in those last crucial minutes
Really tense at the end there, great vid. I personally never like having a Mr. Oxygen, I'd rather put 2 people in a shield or weapon room so they can repair faster, but that's just my preference.
I died a little bit inside every time he took someone off of a vital system just to choke out a single person boarding his ship, especially when he has like 4 people sitting around basically doing nothing.
****SPOILER ALERT**** I can honestly say I felt more excited watching you win this than when I beat the flagship for the first time myself! Well done! Onwards please :)
A nice way to cheese getting the second Kestral layout is to wait in an asteroid field, load up the shield room with crew (just in case) and let the rocks do their work. It's a little risky, but I only needed to try it twice before success. I'm enjoying the series so far. Death to all MF flagships!
Nice run, NL. But you need to pause the game and pay attention to your own ship. Sometimes you didn't have your engines on full power when you had spare reactor power. ^^ Just pause and take your time, buddy. You don't need to hurry all the time. :3
with the ctrl key select a weapon and aim it as usual and the weapon will do the opposite of what setting is being used. So if auto fire is on it will turn it off for that one weapon and vice versa
Awesome video NL :D glad you finally beat the flagship! ^_^ Shame you didn't unlock anything :/ but it was a morale victory! :P You wondered why the fire was put out in the automated ship. This is because the ship doesn't have oxygen (as it supports no life forms) this means it can put out any fires :3 This video made me stop playing my FTL game just to watch xD Keep going till' you've unlocked every ship! :D
NL, if people ever beam into your medbay, go ahead and just power it on and send people in so that it's a 1-vs-1 fight. You are guaranteed not to lose. Also if they hack your medbay, don't send anyone in there; it'll drain their health.
Sorry, didn't even think about that. Just birthday rush fluxed with enjoying the series. If it means anything, I said it a day after the video was up (when I watched it lol). Besides, I see its pretty indicative that, on average, when his game is really long, he wins, so it was pretty obvious from the load-up. Sorry, regardless.
Are you playing while blindfolded? It took you how long to see those intruders at 1:34? You recognized that lanius don't need oxygen, what are you doing using humans to fix things in vacuums?
NL you seriously need to use your Lanius crew mambers to fix breaches and fires THEY DON'T NEED OXYGEN.
i think he forgot he had a lanius crewmember...
Well he forgets just about everything and calls things wrong names as well like sectors being "floors".
***** That's because he plays Isaac every day pretty much, every game looks like Isaac for him now.
Also he can use Lanius to fight people in my opinion
MrTawnyMan Yeah they have a bit more health than humans it's just they don't get hurt by breaches and drain oxygen for putting out fires
I was cringing the entire episode because of that. He could have used the lanius soooo many times... The NL story and all that.
"I want to cloak but I'll wait for the missiles before i do that" FINALLY, he's learning, very slowly, but we're getting there.
"I am gonna be honest with you guys, I don't think we are going to win this one"
SUCCESS!!
Cloaking was handled so much better than last video, it's like our comment went back in time and he could hear it inbetween videos.
Genuinely expected NL to ignore the mind-controlled Lanius (in typical NL fashion) and let it kill the last bar of health and his ship.
Unmanned ship with no Oxygen onboard is pro at putting fires out :P
Good run Ryan, great progress!
Some suggestions as usual:

well at least he improved from the first round. ish.........
Congratulations! By the way, shooting a weapon really speeds up the draining of cloak. When the Flagship is shooting rockets and then power surges, please, don't shoot anything or the cloak will disappear faster!
Don't diss the Kestrel Artemis! It's arguably the most efficient missile in the game. 1 power for a low cooldown 2 damage missile.
Congratulations, NL.
But when you let one ship get away and the second one almost made it (because you paid zero attention to a huge ass warning sign that the enemy charges FTL drive), I almost punched my monitor.
its like NL doesnt even look at his own ship when he is invaded :/
I love watching you as you progress through this series. You are learning quickly. An unlikely victory but a victory none the less. The mighty ducks strike again.

future reference.. why didnt you send the lanius to repair the breaches? it doesnt suffer from o2 loss D:
I'm baffled he didn't realize that lack of oxygen is the reason fires don't last long on unmanned drones... he needs to learn a bit more about O2, I'm afraid.
Ryowyn ahh o2 continuing to baffle youtubers to this day
I kept screaming this while watching. I don't think he knows what the Red Lined rooms mean. They mean the room has no Oxygen!!
Guys...I'm pretty sure he was joking about the oxygen on the unmanned ship. He knows how oxygen works. What he doesn't know is how to use a Lanius crew member properly! Translator literally just stood there the whole time when he could have been VERY helpful in a lot of situations.
I agree with Darkth here
1. Heal your crew.
2. In fights, don't be afraid to pause frequently and look at the situation. This would save you soooo many problems.
hacking the medbay makes it an acid room, if there's crew inside it will fry the shit out of them. and they cant get out fast enough because doors are locked. its good for when you boarding and 2 people just escaped to the medbay like chickens - so you deepfry them.
WHAT A CLUTCH VICTORY!
Some missmanagments still, but GG Northernlion, you really deserved this success :D
Jesus christ my blood pressure ;-;

NL, you are the King Joffrey of FTL. I hate your crew management SO much, but I have to keep watching.
NL there's an easy way of getting the repair achievement. You have to get to an asteroid field, unpower your shields until you are at 1 hull (of course you power your shield then). Then you find a shop and fix everything,

You should upgrade your Medbay and Scanners.
Lots of events have blue options needing level 2 in those systems.
>gets a rockman good at shields
>keeps him in the oxygen room while his mantis dies of blunt force trauma
Wow... I feel like such a professional FTL player now! :D
It's been said before, but you can unlock layout B by using an asteroid field near a store to bring your hull to 1 and then jump back to store.
That was fantastic to see, and in a situation where I actually dared to doubt you might be able to pull it off!

Congrats NL! =D
If I may remark though, good sir, you had a lot of oxygen scares but the whole time you had a crew member who didn't need to breath.
Good job Lion but two things: 1 use your Lanius to repair rooms with out oxygen, 2 the rooms with red lines in them have no oxygen. Anyways good job
yo man, lanius don't need oxygen, so when you got a breach, send the lanius. just a though.

why do you keep sending only the engi into brached rooms with no oxygen? the lanius doesn't CARE about a breach, send him!
speaking of which why do you even bother cloaking for their droneswarm in stage two if you IMMEDIATELY after bring yourself out of cloaking by shooting at them?
why do you leave a comment like he reads them
Wan King dunno, for fun? to relieve frustration?
glorious victory!!!!!
man this series has me hooked
Wow that was a nail-biting ending NL! I think you could have made some better decisions but congratulation anyway on your success...can't wait to see more.
No oxygen in the entire ship. "I'm surprised the AI managed to put out the fire"
Very lucky!

Good run overall :P - id like to see a Zoltan victory next with you trying flak or the Glaive beam or Halberd beam.
Also to add onto that, if you try offensively boarding you will recieve more scrap for killing ships. Its probably best used with the crystal ship.
I've noticed on the flagship that although shields seem like the most likely target, they are constantly repaired by a lot of units. While their weapons, although compartmentalized, only have one unit and are not accessible by more units. I would lambast their weapons with missiles early on in hopes of killing them and their unit. Nice job man! You prioritized their weapons and it lead to your first victory against the Rebel Flagship! :)
Mantis won it , if he letted the lanuis destroy cloaking it would if done 1 hull , but mantis wasn't going to accept that shit .
GJ NL,you got lucky, unlucky, made lots of bad moves, made lots of good decisions and ended up winning. You deserve this.I was sure you where going to let the lanius destroy your ship but to my surprise you identified the hazard and dealt with it properly, great job.
Most tense flagship fight ever. Awesome!
Whenever there's a damaged system or subsystem with no oxygen you can send your Lanius to repair it.
Nice job dude! It all went so well now that you started to neutralize their weapons!
GG now try unlock more ships
Well done, man. Hope you keep playing for a while yet, and discover the magic of the Vulcan/flak weapons on future runs.
hey NL congratulations dude :D
I am so proud of you NL :') I knew you could do it.
Good job NL! That fight requires either a ton of luck or a lot of prior knowledge.

Its actually quite weird: an unmanned ship with no oxygen on board can take out fires. Who knew?
WOW that was exiting as HELL!!!!! gg
Exciting lol
***** hey, i get it :)
your post shield destruction decisions won you this run, feel good about it NL, congrats.
1health win. 1 *SunNonShiningHere* HEALTH WIN! That was a luckiest moment ive ever seen.
NL, watching you play this game hurts my soul.
These intruder event's are nice to farm combat skill on your crew. If you ever get a teleporter. But you are bad at your crew management as is ^^
Congratulations...?
You know what? I'll take it. Congrats on finally beating the flagship NL! Woot!
Tense until the end! Damn that traitorous translator guy though, so close!
Hi northernlion, would you be considering jumping into captain's edition?
Grats, NL. You're improving!
****SPOILER ALERT****
I can honestly say I felt more excited watching you win this than when I beat the flagship for the first time myself!
Hm, something needs to be fixed, but the room is oxygen depraved! Oh, if only I had somebody that doesn't need oxygen!
*sends Engi in*
Didn't expect that run to go that way.
Love ur series dude, i know you can do it!!!!
congratz my balded friend!!
the automated ship did not put the fires out. Automated ships don't have oxygen in their rooms, thus the fires were snuffed out automatically.
12:08, I am more pissed at you then I have ever been
Edit : Oh god, I cant watch you play this game.
Nice run, NL. But you need to pause the game and pay attention to your own ship. Sometimes you didn't have your engines on full power when you had spare reactor power. ^^
Just pause and take your time, buddy. You don't need to hurry all the time. :3
how do you autofire individual weapons?
Press the CTRL Button when you target the enemy ship.
Sven Jakob Bravo, mucho thanks
with the ctrl key select a weapon and aim it as usual and the weapon will do the opposite of what setting is being used. So if auto fire is on it will turn it off for that one weapon and vice versa
1:00 Why not send the Lanius to repair the door room? XD
Fun and exciting Mr NL! Thanks for the vid.
You beat them on my birthday ^^. Hell yeah!
Spoilers...
AnimeAddict
don'tt look at the comments before the video, there's always spoilers
Sorry, didn't even think about that. Just birthday rush fluxed with enjoying the series. If it means anything, I said it a day after the video was up (when I watched it lol). Besides, I see its pretty indicative that, on average, when his game is really long, he wins, so it was pretty obvious from the load-up. Sorry, regardless.
KingKj52 I suppose it is kinda my fault for watching it late :P
Nah it was my bad. Sorry haha
Are you playing while blindfolded? It took you how long to see those intruders at 1:34? You recognized that lanius don't need oxygen, what are you doing using humans to fix things in vacuums?
