I got a few hours in the gyroscope myself, and I know how hard it is to play, especially in the first one I made for United Percussion, had too much fun for days in testing it, with my Pearl quads.
I think this is so impressive. I literally got chills. But sadly not enough people appreciate and recognize how awesome this is. Regardless good luck! I hope you make it and I’m rooting for you!!!!

Hey! I’m one of the people from the school who appeared in the video and I’ll just say for the record that it wasn’t the funding that gave us the liberty to build the gyroscope which people may be saying, but instead a lot of planning, collaboration between parents, and some booster money to find the materials. So glad to have been given the chance for our school to become more known though!
@@Quicktwister Thanks! I think our show did really well with the crowds because it was songs everyone knew and we didn’t hold back even though most did for the pandemic.

Lightridge Marcher here, basically as soon as we finished our show at JMU for parade of champions, our band director made us watch this show, it was without a doubt incredible and made me so mad that we didn’t get props for our show this year. However with that being said, y’all were insane even without props and i’m happy you guys got 1st in Parade of Champions, well deserved and can’t wait to meet again next year.
I cant remember who it was, but a DCI Corp in the late 90's put their entire Snare Line on a spinning rack. It was pretty impressive. 8-9 snare, all spinning, hitting every note.
Mr. J is goated. Loved my time there! Yes, I was a Westfield marcher. And yes, our band was fantastic (I think). I’m pretty sure our percussion got first every time aside from like three other occasion in my time there. I ain’t a percussionist myself, but can say that we were pretty much unmatched in any competition we went to, percussion-wise and to some to degree music-wise. Had an absolute blast of a time and wait excitedly for what’s next!
The problem with drumming in a general talent show, is that the people who appreciate major drum skills most are other drummers. If you have a drummer as a judge, then you have a way better shot.
That looks so insanely hard to do. Props to thats kid i hope they go into wgi or something! It would be amazing to see her in Dayton. Also im absolutely in love with the editing style on this video lol
This is cool, but you’ve gotta check out the OG “Barfing Machine” Les Etoiles made in 1998. This thing was used by Les Etoiles 1998/1999. Then we brought it to Michigan for a few BOA/WGI lines before it finally made its way to BLAST! True story: During the DCE tour in 1999 everyone from other staffs and lines would want to try it out in the lot after shows. Knowing nothing about drumming, I actually learned something today. I never knew that when you strike the rim of a drum it's called a "Rim Tick". Thank you!
We went up to them at the first competition of the season pre-gyroscope and the next competition we had with them was nearing the end of the season at JMU where they pulled that out. We were pretty confident before that and as I was sitting in the nosebleeds I didn't know why everyone was cheering until I saw that. We got second to them so honestly fair enough but we got fan favorite though.
I know about this band and man they really sound cool. There was a competition over James Madison University and me and my school (Sherando High School Band) we're marching. My and Westfield school were both in class 5A so our band knew that we were going to try our hardest. Now we didn't know about this new feature until we watched their performance and man they really knocked it. And what they did was smart because if you think about it, Our Marching season was canceled last year due to covid and since now there is it's a good chance for a band to surprise the judges with something that they haven't seen especially during the pandemic. This marching season was like a refresh so obviously they had a great chance of winning. Now Before We did our performance we were warming up and during our warmup Westfield showed up to do theirs and man let me tell you Their sound literally sounds omminus and dark as if they were the evil side like it was that good. Then after all of the bands performed there was the awards and Our band got placed 3rd in class 5A and Westfield was placed 1st which was no surprise. They even got 1st overall for all of the bands in different classes. Now After that we had the VBODA assessment which is basically a test for marching bands. There really wasn't any competition of any sort as far as I know but Our band got Superior ratings and I expected that they got Superior ratings as well. That was really it. it was my first time as a sophomore to see them and I'm pretty sure they won 1st 6 times in a row (Again I'm not sure) but yeah.
Went to Westfield and participated in their indoor drumline program in 2018, great friends with their electric bassist, guy on the left at 3:31, this whole thing is wild.
I remember the first time I saw anything like this way back in the 90s with the DCI corps Les Etoiles! It was bonkers seeing drummers spinning in the middle of the show on this giant rack. That corps really did some innovative percussion stuff on the field, that you'd then see Division 1 / World Class corps doing 10-20 years later.
Les Etoiles from Canada use to do this in their show every year but with the whole snare line back in 1998 when I marched Spirit. I’ll see if I can find the link. Very cool you got to spin and play though lol 😂
