- Correction: I mention the IC-7200 was sold with the HM-198 mic, I meant to say the HM-36 (chinese version). My IC-7100 came with the terrible HM-198 hand mic.
Today on HamRadioComms - A short video of my contact to Bulgaria. The radio propagation conditions weren't too good and with my small backyard antenna I wasn't sure I would make a contact to Bulgaria today, about 4520 miles from me. His signal was S5 or 6 and he wasn't hearing me, after 20 min or so it creeped up to S7 and I made this contact. I was using my ICOM IC-7200 with an LDG IT-100 auto tuner, ICOM HM-219 hand mic, to a home made 9:1 balun and very short 41 ft end-fed antenna 20 ft high.
The 7200 may be the last QRO non-SDR transceiver...and it is no longer manufactured. I will never give up my own. Not interested in a 7300, thank you.
I regret not buying one of these new when they were still in production, it was a good value I think. Secondary prices are higher than I'd like but I'm still considering it. Nice video!
Great Contact. The IC7200 is a unit that will keep ticking. :)
Thanks... Yes it's a brick!
This is quite humbling good on you for waiting. You are a true amateur.
Thank you very much! Sorry for the late reply... I have a much smaller antenna at my new downsized location now that I'm retired it's more challenging but still very rewarding after making a contact.
Nice contact Ed! Good to see a new video. How have you been?
Hi Gary! thanks.. I'll be making them more regularly now.. I make a lot of gear review vids on my other channels but miss doing these radio ones. I'd like to make some review videos of my radios IC-7200, IC-7100, IC-703 (maybe as a classics review video),my Yaesu FT-70 & VX-6, and others..
You have a really nice collection of radios and equipment, as just saw the list and pics on your QRZ page.. nice pages there. I"ve had OHR radios, I have the MFJ mobile tuner also, I've had the FT-891 and 991.. I want the 991 back! too pricey for me now so I got the IC-7100.
I can see all of your equipment is in mint condition! that's the way I like my radios too.
I didn't know you were away from radio for while, you built up a nice collection since then, that's great. cheers,
