Decent truck, shame no 4wd. GM made good stuff during the cat eye era

My late papaw has a 2002 Sierra 1500 standard cab and it’s such a nice basic truck. No frills, just a nice comfy utilitarian truck. And yes, those seats and the cloth are amazing 😂

GMT800 was GM's high point. Not that the GMT400 and prior were bad, I think the GMT900 was bland and cheap. These are extremely comfortable and functional. They're still kind of cheap inside but not Playskool cheap hard plastic like the GMT900-on. No displacement on demand that burned out camshafts. Big mirrors with optional turn signal arrows. GMT800s had some of the best seats GM ever made. Interestingly, GM didn't offer a crew cab until 2004 despite having crew cabs in previous generations. You should try to find a Silverado SS. More power and AWD. A Quadrasteer GMT800 would be cool too.
GM does something stupid on every car and these were no exception. The low beams turn off when you turn the high beams on despite being separate bulbs. You have to stick a diode in the fuse box to fix it. Given that early 00s halogen headlights were marginal performers new and that these trucks have plenty of alternator amperage, you have to wonder why GM did a dumb.

I would still prefer an old tbi gmt400. Any sensor that breaks is cheap, and an hour or less to replace, most of them being literally five minute jobs.

I have a 2006 2500HD with 197,000 miles and in excellent condition. Runs like new. Synthetic oil every 3,000 miles and I'm going to see how long I can drive it until it won't go anymore. I'm expecting over 500,000 miles.

2003 was before GM's quality started going downhill. The trucks and SUVs they built in the '90s and early 2000s were better built than the new one's today.

Fun fact if you got the 4 door models you could get rear vents in the center console, something that modern trucks don’t have.

GMT-800 chassis trucks. The best GM ever made.
My son still drives my 2000 with 215k on the clock. After selling my 2019 RST and waiting on my 2022 AT4 to be delivered, I bought a 2004 cateye as a stop-gap. Only had 110k on it. Great truck (it's for sale, Sierra gets here next week)

      Savannah, GA area. Asking $9500.
G80 rear, DL3 mirrors and steering wheel controls. Center console, but only cloth interior (LS trim level). ZERO rust in the sheet metal. Frame is clean with only minor patina. Paint is dead. Southern truck. Bought and stayed in Charleston, SC.
No oil leaks (wish I could say that about our 2000 Silverado). This truck is super solid and rides great. Wish I could keep it.

I had one of those trucks and a very rare configuration of it as well but unfortunatly the frame was rotted when it was gifted to me and it only has 97,000 miles on it...it was a 6 speed manual duramax extended cab long bed work trim model with the cd radio instead of the really basic radio it was my dads truck and he passed away and my grandfather took it and he never washed it and used it for loading boats into salt water

    • @bwofficial1776
      @bwofficial1776 2 роки тому

Turbo engines are designed for turbos. The compression, timing, fuel delivery, and tuning are all set up for turbocharging. It would be easier to swap the engine entirely.

This cat eye style Silverado is the only body style I never liked. I rather have one from the 1990s or one after 2008 and up. I thought about having you review my mom's 2003 Toyota echo but my mom drives daily so It's hard to make time to borrow it and cosmetic wise it's in rough shape.

  • @doug6191

275HP from a 4.8 V8 in 2003 is actually great for a truck. For comparison Toyota's 4.7 from the same era didn't make that much power until ~2005 when they added VVTi. BTW, if you can find one, I'd suggest you do a review of a first gen tundra.

about to say i cant believe my 2007 4.2 I6 trailblazer makes more hp then the silverado at 291hp, but a quick search shows that they upgraded it in 2006 while 2002 was around the same as the truck
