Long comment ahead!! 😅I'm pretty sure I read and loved all the Royal Diaries books as a kid and wish I had kept them! At least, I'm pretty sure they're not still at my parents' place haha
Agree that To Be Taught if Fortunate is fantastic - I reread it last January and the ending made me cry again! Becky Chambers' books are some of the few books I've re-read multiple times - there's something about her writing that just works for me. And yes - the Canadian/British cover is so much better - so glad we have them at Indigo!
I don't read a lot of romance these days compared to my teen years but I'm currently reading We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian and really loving it.
The Highway of Tears is excellent - McDiarmid really worked with the communities and families affected to tell their stories, and that care is reflected in the writing (in my opinion). I read it from the library and then promptly bought my own copy to re-read eventually and annotate.
I feel like I only learned about American Girl dolls in my 20s when they came to Indigo - as you mentioned, they weren't really a thing in Canada growing up in the 90s/2000s (unless you spent a lot of time in the US). The enduring (nostalgic) popularity is so fascinating to me

I'm glad to hear you liked McDiarmid's book so much! It makes me happy I decided to grab it. And yes, I'm really embracing my girlhood nostalgia era here with Royal Diaries and American Girl. I was watching videos the other day of people recounting the history of the AG brand, analysis on why people are so attached, etc. and it was fascinating!
