When I lived in Denver, I used this album to time my drive to work. I would always make it to my parking space in the middle of Lateralus. But my favorite part of that drive was the part of this song when Maynard screams "ALIIIIIVE, I." This was when I'd come over a hill and the Continental Divide would seem to rise up from the horizon. It always made my morning.

One of my favorite songs of theirs. Glad you did the video version, which includes both Parabol & Parabola, as sadly some people only review the single song, & they need to be listened to together. "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment, remember: We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion." Words that can change your life if you allow them to.

Fun fact I read is that when Maynard screams "Alive" following a pause, that marks the exact middle of the song. The apex of the parabola. Thus, the build-up to that moment and then the wind down on to the end. Again, I read this somewhere researching this track. If I am wrong, please enlighten me so I don't spread misinformation.

For me, this is one of the most powerful songs that I've ever heard. I live with chronic pain due to many injuries, and pain is something that I live with every day. This life that I live though, is a blessing. I am made of the material of a million dead stars, at some point in the future, parts of me will return to a star, and will find a new holy experience. I am eternal, or at least, parts of me are. In the meantime, my pain is an illusion. It's just a series of action potentials from one nerve to another, it, like the body that I live in, does not define me.
my friend brought this album with us when we went to Thailand for a holiday. we flew on Sept. 11th 2001 and when we landed the world had changed. my first time hearing this was in the aftermath of that horrendous tragedy tripping balls on a beach on Ko Samui... still blows my mind 😎🤘 Respect & Peace ☘
The songs leading up to this track, The Grudge, Schism, et. al., are chaotic with varied time sigs. Parabol/a is essentially 4/4 and you can hear the band way more focused and united. And driving forward with purpose. They’re learning to live and appreciate the pain of being together… fully realized by Lateralus. 🌀
This is the best breakdown, and the most satisfying reaction to the most uplifting song EVER! Watching your face bounce between revulsion and exhilaration around the transition really made my day. I have no doubt that this song has saved many lives.
There will never be another band/artist like Tool /MJK... Seeing someone experience Tool's magic for the first time makes it feel like I am experiencing in full for the first time again. Their music quenches the soul and mind over and over, satisfying each and every time. What a time to be alive and breathing. Thank you Taylor for your insignts. Welcome to the Tool Army.
This has been one of my biggest go-to songs. Whenever I need release something that has been weighing on me or falling up in my chest to the point that it feels like I'm drowning. I will put this song on in my truck at full volume and just let it rip. After you scream this at the top of your lungs, you are guaranteed to feel at least 50% better than you did when the song came on.
Just want to say that therapy is done me a lot of good. I love and respect everything you are doing. And when I feel down I watch these videos just to see you dance. It's so enjoyable
That moment when Parabola kicks in and that swell of guitars is so powerful and it still gets me every time. This song is one of my favorites. The message and the just the overall vibe is so powerful and healing to me.
I listen to this song to ground myself. To feel I am part of everything and Im supposed to be here, and a part of it. Its like tuning an instrument, but the insturment is my soul.

From KotoHiAme: @memphishaynes6900 The fact you picked this song is crazy because now a days I not a lot of people I know enjoy songs that have build up, and art/setup at the beginning of their songs. Lastly, I didn't know what PDA was until just now. So, I do apologize of not having any knowledge about that part of you.

From gravitykills24: @memphishaynes6900 Hey there, thanks for reaching out to us at Heart Support - I am glad you let us know about your struggles and also how this Tool song speaks to you and gives you a beacon of light and hope. I actually had to go back and listen to the song myself since I know most Tool songs but don't listen to them a lot and had to remember which song this was. I love that you’re doing these TOOL reaction videos. TooL is my all-time favorite band since the 90s and I have met the most amazing people in my life because of TOOL.
I was seriously looking forward to seeing your reaction to the transition from Parabol (the gentle, spacy intro) to Parabola. Was not disappointed. It hits everyone like that.
life is pain when it hurts so good complementary to life itself and appreciate the pain and the love in this human experience to be alive right in this instant track of my memories
This entire album helped me view my bipolar diagnosis from a different angle, and take responsibility for my own mental health. I’m not at all exaggerating when I say this album gave me my life back. Decades later, I still come back to this to center myself and calm my inner storms.
It's so awesome hearing a therapist's perspective on, well, ANY of Tool's songs. Absolutely loving these! Parabol + Parabola is one of my favorites from them. I'd be super interested to hear your take on three songs in particular, which I'm sure have been mentioned. They're "Judith", by A Perfect Circle, which is one of Maynard's (the vocalist of Tool) other bands, and then Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days, which are both back-to-back tracks on Tool's 10,000 Days album. The three songs deal with Maynard's mother, her health issues, her faith, and Maynard coming to terms with the different stages of her illness, struggles, and ultimately her death. Hearing the perspective of someone in the mental health field would be absolutely fascinating!
I love her facial reactions are so priceless love her reviews and I love that she takes them seriously w/o being TOO serious. Ngl i remember the fist video she did that I saw i was like oh shes so sweet she's gona hate it but she loved it, seems like she became a fan as well as a possible distant friend ❤🎉
I usually hate their official vids they sre abstract and bizarre to the point of distracting new listeners to the song from the actual lyrics and impact of the music. The best part of this video is the new spiritual ‘third eye’ body he transmutes to at the end. I love this song btw!!
@@scarybaldguy Fair enough. I personally don't dislike the videos. I think they are entertaining but may they could be off-putting or distracting to listeners who may be new to Tool, if that makes sense. They lyrical content of their music is pretty great.
Thanks Taylor! Your interpretations are so awesome! I love this song, especially the last part. There are some spiritual references, like the chacras and last but not least the unit between your own "soul" with million of other souls.
I will always be thankful to TOOL for helping me to better understand how perfectly and completely PHUCKED we all are and that I'm just riding the wave to oblivion.
Your WTF face to Tool songs when you open your mouth in that O shape is soooo much enjoyable, I just love it. In the end those clips ain't nothing more than references to asian mythology, Alex Grey paintings or DMT trips, but your 👁👄👁 is almost fullfillining in a way. I love it. 😃 edit: not in any weird or sexual way. I just see my 15 year old self
This is my favorite Tool song. Saw them play it live in Berlin in 2019. Haven't cried like that in a long time. ➡Celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing 🖤🖤🖤
As someone who's been through it all, having a privileged life and yet seem to be constantly disappointed.. this sort of stuff made me really realise what this all means. We choose to be here. We CHOSE to come here. We must not leave before we learn our lessons. Ending it all or giving up will just mean we come back and do it all over again. If the eternal is real and we chose to come here, there must be a reason. Maybe that reason is figuring out the reason for love. Maybe the big one person that we all are isn't as exciting as this life.
This Tool video is actually 4 or 5 tracks off the album. If memory serves, Adam (the guitar player) made this video. He was a special effects artist on server movies before this. The transition you pointed out is actually the switch from Parabol and into Parabola. The best part is the Alex Grey artwork coming to life at the end.
There's an oddly strange and wonderful sensation when you see someone else be moved by something that's moved you for so long.

my friend brought this album with us when we went to Thailand for a holiday. we flew on Sept. 11th 2001 and when we landed the world had changed. my first time hearing this was in the aftermath of that horrendous tragedy tripping balls on a beach on Ko Samui... still blows my mind 😎🤘
Respect & Peace ☘
Heard this song and this reaction just at the right moment. thank you Tool & HeartSupport.
Absolutely 💯
Greatest band ever, prove me wrong
Can't do it 🌀🤘

When I was in therapy I made this song my mantra to be mindfully aware of what is around me and what can be appreciated in the moment
I have been listening all morning! New discovery of this channel. I am in love with anything tool. So healing
Loved the squeal of delight!
Such a powerful song, thanks for the review.
I listen to this song to ground myself. To feel I am part of everything and Im supposed to be here, and a part of it. Its like tuning an instrument, but the insturment is my soul.
@heartsupport this song has and all always been a beacon of light for me in troubled times, as I have always felt so lost and alone in this world struggling with PDA and depression to connect with others especially as I feel like I can never truly connect with anyone
From KotoHiAme: @memphishaynes6900 The fact you picked this song is crazy because now a days I not a lot of people I know enjoy songs that have build up, and art/setup at the beginning of their songs. This entire video is a giant set piece with nearly two minutes to four minutes of buildup. Yeah, man I do also understand how it is not connected with people too, but today you connected with me through this song. It may be five years old, but every piece of this song still slaps.

I loved Taylor's reaction video to it and read through the lyrics and I can totally see where you are coming from - especially with pain being an illusion. When I have feel depressed and have had some months of being down and just not myself I can understand totally that it isn't real...that my mind is completely making up my own prison I am trapped in but its locked from the inside and I know I can get out anytime, but don't want to yet. I am sorry that you feel disconnected from people and I am glad that we all have music in common and it can help us unite with other fans and with other people who struggle with the same things. To be honest, I had to look up PDA since I thought that only meant Public Display of Affection - I didn't realize it was another diagnosis definition - but I get it after reading the definition and examples...I think our son might struggle with that as part of his ADHD and dyslexia - he is very avoidant of certain things we ask him to do - especially reading, since it is so hard for him. Well, I hope that our replies can give you some hope and some sense of connection - you are not alone in this world and I love that you have Tool and Parabola to come back to when you need to be grounded and feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel. Be well, reach out to us anytime!

My favorite. So incredibly spiritual and intense.
I always find your interpretation of Tool’s songs very enlightening
I love that you’re doing these TOOL reaction videos. TooL is my all-time favorite band since the 90s and I have met the most amazing people in my life because of TOOL.
I highly recommend going to see Tool live.
i concur
Absolutely
You don't see Tool.
You experience Tool.
Thank you for sharing your insight into this holy gift
I was seriously looking forward to seeing your reaction to the transition from Parabol (the gentle, spacy intro) to Parabola. Was not disappointed. It hits everyone like that.
life is pain when it hurts so good complementary to life itself and appreciate the pain and the love in this human experience to be alive right in this instant track of my memories
4:34 TOOL-Gasm!
It's so fun watching people experience TOOL drops for the 1st time again.
Yessss...my favorite Tool song❤
This song was a great comfort to me after my brother left this place.
This entire album helped me view my bipolar diagnosis from a different angle, and take responsibility for my own mental health. I’m not at all exaggerating when I say this album gave me my life back. Decades later, I still come back to this to center myself and calm my inner storms.
Fun fact: The guy from the video is Tricky, former member of Massive Attack, trip-hop artist...
Parabol/Parabola hits even more different once you hear it live..this review is going to be fun
saw them in STL back in '19....the drop and ALIVE..so awesome to hear it live
@@seanysean6183 that was the same tour where I saw it live first time in Cincinnati..exactly the ALIVE
@shashankadavi28 I was at Heritage also...in the cheap seats 😂
This is the one I've been waiting for! 46&2 then this. Love your approach to listening to this band
God , your reaction is hiw i feel every time. Who ever your partner is , is blessed to be with your good soul ❤️🔥❤️. You good peeps
This Song give me goosebumps everytime!!!
Proper needed this video today, thank you!!
I feel the same way. Their videos almost never match the lyrical content of their songs and it detracts from the music.
@@drkaeppelL
@@drkaeppel Adam's creative vision is just that fkin weird. Don't try to analyze the videos, just enjoy them as their own works of art.
@@scarybaldguy Fair enough. I personally don't dislike the videos. I think they are entertaining but may they could be off-putting or distracting to listeners who may be new to Tool, if that makes sense. They lyrical content of their music is pretty great.
Oh this is going to be so good
Heart support has got a lot what Tool is about!
Bless you!
Thanks Taylor! Your interpretations are so awesome! I love this song, especially the last part. There are some spiritual references, like the chacras and last but not least the unit between your own "soul" with million of other souls.
one of the best tool reactions i've seen
absolutely my favorite tool song so inspiring raw and real
I will always be thankful to TOOL for helping me to better understand how perfectly and completely PHUCKED we all are and that I'm just riding the wave to oblivion.
Your WTF face to Tool songs when you open your mouth in that O shape is soooo much enjoyable, I just love it. In the end those clips ain't nothing more than references to asian mythology, Alex Grey paintings or DMT trips, but your 👁👄👁 is almost fullfillining in a way. I love it. 😃
edit: not in any weird or sexual way. I just see my 15 year old self
Damn...I've been binging your videos over the past few days, digging the Tool rabbithole. THIS is the one I was waiting for.
Such a powerful song that has saved so many of us
This is my favorite Tool song.
I had to hit the comments to make sure you did them both. Ive been burned before so THANK YOU, Im going to go watch now. 🌀♾️🌀
Love the visuals in this video . And the song as the whole is very validating .
I got to see Tool in 2009 in Las Cruces, NM.....such a great show!!!
Looking forward to you listening Wings for Marie pt.1 & pt.2. Its a powerful ode to his mother and the grief of letting her go.
Great job getting the best recording that has Parabol and Parabola without a break 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
you know what after listening to tool for more than 30 years there never not going to be awesome ❤
I love your TOOL reactions please do wings for Marie Maynard wrote it for his mom beautiful song and lyrics.
Loved this reaction!! Mind blown
This Tool video is actually 4 or 5 tracks off the album. If memory serves, Adam (the guitar player) made this video. He was a special effects artist on server movies before this. The transition you pointed out is actually the switch from Parabol and into Parabola. The best part is the Alex Grey artwork coming to life at the end.
in 2018 i experienced that at the end, it is the most amazing thing one can experience in their life.
It makes me happy seeing how into it you got
