    Its 8 years since the old boy died. This is a commercial estate. My guess is that they are holding on to this house as it is the main house on the estate, and was the centre of their operations. But they are currently 'absent', and the house is 'mothballed'. The open window may have been deliberate left open to let some air in, and the others downstairs boarded or shuttered.

    • @magesalmanac6424
      @magesalmanac6424 3 роки тому +2

      Hi, just curious what you mean by commercial estate?

    • @peterraikman
      @peterraikman 3 роки тому +6

      @@magesalmanac6424 This is the estate house of a substantial estate which has been owned by the family for several generations. Traditionally much of the lower land had been tenanted by crofters and the moorland used for sheep and deer. At one time the tenants were expected to do some work on the estate. A threat of mass eviction resulted in civil unrest. Nowadays some crofts are holiday homes. These estates do not generate a lot of income, but they are held as a capital investment. I am deliberately being vague.
      The house itself has been extended in the past. It is too big for family use, too remote, and the extensions do not lend themselves for other uses.

    Sorry guys but this felt more like a home invasion rather than an exploration of a dilapidated old ruin..clearly something sudden and tragic happened here and it was
    left in a state of hiatus maybe till legal matters were sorted out...i hope you secured

      Definitely looks that way mate,the grounds were very tidy and grass was short.....inside apart from obvious damage from roof leaks there was hardly any dust on the furniture and beds neatly made and carpets looked clean...

    The stairlift is a sure sign that this was the home of older people with mobility problems . It still has the lived in look too. You half expect someone to arrive with their shopping or something. What breathtaking views. I could easily live in a location like this. If only! One thing is for sure, this should be saved and be a happy home again. I would be living the dream if I was fortunate enough to have a house like that.

    The object you asked about at 23 minutes is for trimming the wicks on candles and oil lamps. As the wick burns down it can get black, make soot and lose brightness. A quick trim and the flame is clean and bright. Thanks for taking us along.

Sad that the children don’t come back for the pictures & air looms 😞 Very nice things! I think vandals have destroyed some of the house😞 Gorgeous wooden furniture! The next time, please take more light, as some scenes were too dark to see! Also, please introduce your friends & talk during the filming as we don’t know what we are looking at! Just some suggestions to improve your videos, no cruel intent👍 Thank you Alec for sharing this wonderful adventure with us! I loved it ❤️

    I would absolutely love to live in that house, what a stunning location.
    If the roof hadn't came in, you'd think he had just nipped out to the shops and would be home soon. I'm still crying, made me so emotional this one, all those memories just left there to rot away, so sad. Thanks guys, I love how you respect everything and leave it as you found it.

Such a shame not to have someone living there and sharing the history with visitors. Really brilliant video Alec noticed Dave AWE I love it when my favourite Explorer's get together good company. Plenty of booze in this video however you'll be spewing for a week if you touched that shite there was stuff growing in it lol . Superb area and house probably a laird's home just a shame we don't have a system that looks out and recovers abandoned houses in Scotland it would be a beautiful home again for anyone all5he best Alex xx

    The abandoned homes you find, do any of them go on the market for sale?

    Do you know the history of the owners of the home? Makes the video that much better. Are they alive? Did they pass? Children? Occupation?
