Having experienced both. SMB on the field at Spartan Stadium is amazing. But as a band geek and MSU fan, there is absolutely nothing like the thundering bass drum of the opening bars of Victory for MSU rattling your bones.😊
OSU alum and former tbdbitl member here- you're absolutely right. Love the Spartan band... First time I heard them do Shadows I almost cried. Gorgeous piece of music, phenomenal band. Easily my favorite Alma Mater after my own :)
Watching this kind of performance live and in person was what got me interested in marching band. The rest is history! I went on to march drum corps all kinds of march arts activities. I became a music teacher too.
i watch this video to this day before a game or just to get the goosebumps it ALWAYS gives me. today its even bettter, because we've got some WOLVERINe ass to kick GO GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Bob Bratzler I'd like to know that as well. My grandparent's went in the 40s and I wondered what they sang/played then since it wasn't MSU but MSC. :)
Must be the same song as played here. The MSU fight song was copyright 1919, 100 years ago, so it must be the same song with the name changed for Mich Ag College, Mich State College, and Mich State University. The Moffitt version came later.
DVM from MSU in 1967. Was there for the infamous 1966 "End of an Ara game". Used to love hearing that band practice outdoors on my way to classes. Go State Go!
ohio fans. I was in Mayo hall the day we beat Woody Hayes. He had been unbeaten and expected to steamroller us but we won in the last minute of the game. we could not hear the TV in the dorm room turned all the way up for the roaring coming from the stadium a mile away!!! Go Spartans!
Have you ever noticed that all Italian restaurants compare themselves to those in New York? You know who doesn’t do that? New York Italian restaurants. Great bands don’t have to tell you they’re great.

Our alma mater and fight song are two of the best for any college in our country.

Whatever happened to the Michigan State College March? This was a school song played in the 50's.

Why are they so good at singing though??
+Gisella C They aren't mostly music majors, but did play in high school bands and may have sung in choirs, too.
It helps with matching pitch while playing.
My high school has the exact same school song... And the end of the fight song.. :-D
Did you attend Forest Hills Central in Grand Rapids? Go Rangers!
It is the best band
Angela Leffew No, THE Ohio State University is
