looking at the A7 siii and FX9 side by side, I'm impressed at how sony doesn't hold back their features in their mirrorless. In some cases I much prefer the A7 siii footage and it looks slightly sharper.

nah fam, the a7siii just has more digital sharpening and more noise reduction which you cannot turn off. The fx6 is definitely the way to go if you're a cinematographer, more control over the image processing and a more natural look.

Variable Electronic ND as a dynamic way to compensate exposure is pretty damn clever. I'm impressed. I think they also nailed a great place for that dual ISO effectively making a daytime and night time mode.

@@Max-fy4rc I have both of those and like some other reviews out there, its all based on how you use the camera! I plan on doing the FX9 FX6 combo for documentary shoots. using the FX6 for run and gun stuff but that's just me.
I think the C70 will work well most of the time especially when there is abundant light. Mini XLR inputs I think is an alright compromise. RF lenses or the speedbooster is nice and I think up to a certain point the C300 III's image can be cleaner than the C500 II. But, I am actually loving the additional features the FX6 provides. Kind of split here, but, I do think the DGO sensor is actually great most of the time. Also, not sure if there is IR Pollution on Gene's shirt or just a color shift or it is just the actual color of the shirt.
exactly what I was thinking, its so hard to choose from this and the c70. Ive become a sucker for that FF look lol. But when people compare those 16+ stops of DR from the C70 to the likes of what arri can achieve, man its hard to ignore that. And you cant deny how useful the pro ports and I/O from the fx6....ahhh its hard! More than anything what I really care about is overall image quality and 4k 120

Plus, the c70 ends up being the same price with the additional speed booster. and with 15 stops of DR in camera, its close enough to the c70. I feel the pros of the fx6 outweigh the pros of the c70 overall

This has always bothered me about my Sony cameras. My blacks were magenta and my skin tones were yellow/green, making it hard to correct for both at the same time.
After effects has a way to add motion blur back into high shutter speed footage… catalyst browse has so much potential. Adobe even made warp stabilizer faster with the update. If Sony really improved catalyst browse, it would be an amazing workflow

Those canon colors are pretty awesome. The a7r3 also has great color. I agree that you get more natural look from the fx6 by your comparison therefore everything else can be done in post
Just when I thought I was going to get a komodo this is the camera I've been waiting for. I've literally been looking at my bank account and the click to pre order button for the komodo for two weeks. Trying to work out if I go for a pocket 6k, A7s again, c70, zcam or a komodo. All I need now is this baby. Full frame and 4k 120 with next to know crop are deal breakers for me that's not to mention the screen you get us more. Thanks for this.

@@sixsoxsex1 I don't think my clients care. I'm mid level the last shoot I did for fila China was £15k budget (I couldn't believe it) that's for a 10 second and 45 commercial. We shot that with FS7. A year ago similar work was upward of £80k which we would rent everything. Honestly I think these companies want good content on small budgets.

As someone who does video work, I would rather have this. DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras are nice for mimicking cinema on a budget, but this has so many more features that are built directly into the camera. For me, this is a more well rounded option in most scenarios. Unless you do both photography and video work on a budget. Then mirrorless/DSLR makes more sense. *Disclaimer* I currently have a Nikon Z 6, but I would love to get a dedicated film camera for convenience sake.
HI!, Maybe the color difference between FX6 and A7SIII is due to the circular ND filter you have placed on the Alpha. They are filters that add color to your scene.

that low light performance and the gyro image stabilization is whats making Sony the clear winner! The RF lenses are awesome but it’s not that important when it comes to the full picture 🎥
Exposing in the histogram was always a mystery for my FS5. “Always Overexposed” was the rule but a very vague thing for such an important item. I switched to Black Magic because of this. So..has this been fixed in the Sony cams?

The a7s III is so good that it makes the FX6 seem incredibly niche. Sure, the built-in ND filters are convenient, but so are IBIS and a much lower price point.
Cool video, looking forward for your hands on with C70! A couple of observations: @ 3:45 In all comparisons (C300 III & a7S III) FX6 is having magenta tint, not only skin but also neutral colors (especially visible on shirts) @ 5:25 Slow-mo is not identical - a7S III has an option to record sound up to 120p and speaking of it a7S III also has more codec options! @ 5:59 There's also an in-body mic on the left side ... if there was only any type of audio input on the body as well, not to loose ALL OF THEM when you take of the handle :D @ 6:45 I wish this stabilization got a Final Cut Pro X & Resolve plug-ins! Otherwise combined with motion blur artifacts doesn't make as much sense as it could've @ 7:35 Sony is insisting that it is not a dual native ISO, there's a single base ISO of 800 and a High Sensitivity mode of 12,800. Works almost as good as dual ISO though! @ 16:53 You get more horizontal resolution file with DCI, but it actually crops in for 1:1 readout, instead of the slight oversampling it does for UHD

I actually like the c70 more, it has everything you actually need in a compact size and you can actually travel with it! and most importantly, it never overheats.
Holy crap does the A7S III look good. The more I compare that camera to it's competitors, the more I want it. But against the FX6?!??. I think that sealed the deal
When allowed carryon will be 20kg, I'll consider FX6 looks great straight out of the camera. But for now a7S. The picture and greenish.tinge is easily healed with setting a color phase in a camera to +2, or just use an accurate LUT. I just don't see a big enough reason to pay twice as much for a much bigger and heavier camera.

If you shoot prores raw out, you can bypass the aggressive high threshold high radius sharpening on the A7siii.

Digital sharpening that isn't disablable on the A7siii without shooting raw video as hdmi out.
Picture looked much better with the A7S as it had more detail. Color was worse though.

Honestly, mini-XLR directly on the body is infinitely better than REQUIRING a top handle to have XLR.

Not just you. If it wasn't for the canon footage I would have said it's a purple shirt.
Looking at it on a calibrated screen, and the black shirt is correct on the Canon. The FX6 is looking purple.

I think this happens throughout the Sony range, even the Venice. Annoying, but I doubt anyone would notice except the filmmaker.

There is a big difference between 444 12 bit log (444 16bit linear color) and 422 10 bit log (422 12 bit linear color)

As soon as you say cinema, nothing beats BMPCC6K. Color , braw and price. This test looks like an iphone 12 footage.

The picture and greenish.tinge is easily healed with setting a color phase in a camera to +2, or just use an accurate LUT. I just don't see a big enough reason to pay twice as much for a much bigger and heavier camera.
