That 3 inch viper is appealing
Personally I’m digging the viper
FWIW, the non-fluted cylinders _do absolutely nothing_ to make the revolver "stronger" or able to handle "heavier loads" in terms of operating pressure.
The weak points on the 6 shot revolvers are still the cylinder stop cuts. The non-fluted cylinders add weight, and together with the porting, reduce felt/perceived recoil. It also reduces manufacturing costs. 🤔
Factory loads for the .357 and .44 Magnum rounds will not be changing, and anyone who is exceeding published data for handloads because of a non-fluted cylinder is asking for trouble they don't need.
I suspect at least part of the reason is to distinguish them from the other Colt revolvers...the Python and the Anaconda.
Very well said.
was going to post same thing. Where do people get these ideas from?
@@bb5242 🤷♂ The internet? UA-cam videos?
These younger shooters grew up with black plastic. They simply don’t know all that much about revolvers. But hopefully guns like these will interest them and maybe they’ll start learning the nuances of the wheel gun
The original Kodiak and Grizzly didn’t have cylinder cuts, it’s just to make them closer to the originals rather than save on manufacturing costs.
Grizzly and Kodiak are $1599, Viper $999. A lot cheaper than $5K+ for the originals.
In my personal opinion what little experience I have with Colt revolvers there is a reason for that price difference. My older guns have much better triggers, much better fit and finish, and honestly older classic features like pinned barrels and recessed cylinders and other nice things about them. The only disadvantage to one of the older ones is that they don't really like the hot loads compared to the newer guns but honestly I don't know anybody who would put that through either of the guns new or old. People tend to baby them if they have one. Still though as crazy as it sounds if I'm after a shooter I'd rather an older gun. The newer ones are great for collecting but I just don't really care for the way they shoot. I don't like having to have a trigger job and an action job done on a gun that cost a grand because it is actually raises its almost the price of an old one anyway. Just my 2 cents.
@hankwilliams-hx9ww definitely the older guns are nicer but they're not as tough i do prefer the originals over the new one's I don't really give a fuck though I'll run anything through a gun as long as it doesn't blow it up including A vintage python
The originals were less than $300
@santamanone no shit every thing was less expensive 30 years ago
@@Tikenmuwings 30 years? The originals are over 80 years ago.
That Grizzly is very cool.
Nice to see the old names back.
Man brush up on your revolver nomenclature!
"This one is kind of a handgun" 😅
@@graywoodfoxwell1931 Well, you can't argue with that, but the thing which made me cringe was saying guide rod when he meant underlug-- the steel shrouding the ejector rod on the bottom of the barrel. The thing he absolutely got right though was that he kept the revolver in frame for the entire dialogue, and usually it was a close up of the revolver, and he didn't just hold it in one position while he talked-- he kept it moving: he swung out the cylinder, showed it from different angles, put the 3 and 4 inch side-by-side, etc. That makes this an above average presentation of most new firearms in a video this short.
I like that viper
The Grizzly is super cool, but man that Viper just does it for me.
The Python is still my favorite, but the Viper will have a place in my stable.
Colt will never be able to replicate the original Python,Anaconda and Diamond Back . Colt had master gunsmiths back then and The quality fit and finish of those are the pinnacle of Quality Wheel Guns! The Earlier S&W Revolvers from Decades past are very fine too.
Hate to rain on your parade Grandpa Boomer, but the new family of Colt Python and Anaconda are way stronger, better action and far more durable than the original designs from the 50's for the Python and the 90's for the Anaconda. Colt put in over 35% more steel in the frame / cylinder for the New Python - Anaconda and over 60,000 rounds through these guns during development and testing. The old Python could NEVER handle 60K rounds of proof grade 357 Magnum. It's not our fault you paid 3 to 4,000 for a 40-year-old gun that is half the durability and quality of what you can get for 1,500 now. And yes, I own a 2017 Cobra, 2020 Python and 2021 Anaconda so I know what I am actually talking about and can put my money where my mouth is on this subject.
My 2020 python feels smoother and is apparently much more durable than my 1980 python. Stop spreading misinformation ya walnut
@@smithn.wesson495 all the old guys are mad that their hand fitted $4000 heirloom is a less effective tool than the new kid on the block. Even Bill Wilson himself agrees that the 2020 Python is mechanically more robust than the classic Pythons.
God forbid Colt try to reintroduce a classic with improvements from modern technology 🤷♂️
really nice wheel guns.
Can we get the Viper in 327 Federal with 7 rounds ?
No
@@michaelclausen9331 it wouldn't be Colt if they gave us what we want now would it?
For real dude the second i saw the viper I instantly thought they should make a variant in 327 that'd be awesome
I wish they would’ve made it in a lightweight frame like the original
If they do that, I will buy it right fucking now.
Looking good! Very good 👍
0:51 That's a Hogue grip right? Pachmayr grips look very different from that :)
Super! Perfect... Pries?????
I’ll take one of each when they release the blued versions
I have an original Viper. A Cobra with a 4" tube. Alloy frame, very light, No 38sp +P or real hot stuff. Mine has been here 40+ years, on a ranch for the last twenty, edc often. Older an uglier but still runs butter smooth, with hits out past a hundred....
Me want a grizzly.
If you ever fire a ported centerfire revolver without hearing protection, you will never do it again.
I think that goes for literally any firearm ever created that isn’t suppressed. If you shoot without ear pro it isn’t the gun’s fault when you inevitably destroy your eardrums.
@@Ussr0312 even with hearing protection on you can tell how much louder a ported barrel is than a non-ported. That was my point. Anything but the largest most powerful semi auto pistol and revolver cartridges are controllable as far as barrel rise goes anyway.
They are marketing the viper as a carry gun and they still only gave it trench sights. If it's purely a collector's piece then fine but It's little features like that which would set it apart from the competition in the carry market. SW 19 pro comp, 586, 686 deluxe, kimber k6 can all be had for that price AND have real sights.
Viper should have been 327 alloy frame. Grizzly should have been .44 mag, and Kodiak 454 Casul.
357 revolvers are a dime a dozen.
Yeah, I was expecting some big bore cartridges for the big bore names.
The Viper is still cool as hell, but a .327 variant would be one of my next guns.
Grizzly is super cool. But there are no predators we have to worry about anymore, lol.
I like the viper but I’ve heard of too many issues with the new colt cobras. Hammers and return springs breaking.
Whats the price on them?
Too much
The Kodiak and the grizzly are $1599 and the viper is $999 but I would expect to be able to get them for $1,300 and like $700 on the secondary market after a little while
Revolvers
The comeback tour
But where are the blued?
Love colt but wish they'd start outfitting beyond the 1950s
The grizzly looks almost as cool as my m711
what are the bbl lg
Smith sells a 44 that weighs almost half of that Kodiak. I'd rather carry that.
"So we at Colt have listened to customer feedback and we are introducing our Viper as a more affordable line."
"How much?"
"$1000"
"...
They compensated a colt python and anaconda and called it Kodiak and grizzly, whoopee!
I’ll never understand why people get so angry about new models….
@@BrokenBarBox They just poors
@@BrokenBarBox who's angry? Colt literary took models already in production and ported them, then gave them cheesy names. It's disappointing frankly.
@@michaelclausen9331 I will 😆, it's literally the same models with porting...
Like that viper. Looks cool as shit. Tell’em make it in 22lr
Are they Pachmayr grips? They look like Hogue.
That grizzly costs more than the stainless pythons, why not just get a python??? The viper looks nice.
Nice.
Is Colt using a more robust forged trigger mechanism? Or still going with those MIM part internals? MIM saves money and can cost lives. Failure in firearms is not an option.
This guy looks and sounds like you found him outside a smoke shop, 00:18 "this is kind of a handgun" really bud???
Lol I was just thinking that this guy couldn't have less enthusiasm if he tried.
Those are hogue grips not pachmayr. Curious if all these will have light strikes and be out of time like everything else.
Couple things who owns colt now and the cylinder isnt fluted to save money not increase strength other wise the 500s&w would be slick lmfao
Stronger and cheaper to manufacture
💖💖💖
Price???
Kodiak and Grizzlies are 1499
Viper is 999
$1599 for the Kodiak and the grizzly $999 for the viper but they'll probably come down a couple hundred dollars on the secondary Market after a little while
@Tikenmuwings I agree I got my cobra for 800 and my python stainless steel for 1200 the only firearm I bought retail priced was the anaconda
@TylerM1611 yeah man I saw a python sell for like 5 or 6 hundred bucks a few weeks back. I'm really excited to get a viper tho
Hope they offer them in a non-ported option.
They already do, the Grizzly is basically a Python with a ported barrel and smooth cylinder and it’s the same way with the Kodiak and Anaconda.
They have for four years now lol.
It's a Python and Anaconda.
Like it
Is the new Viper an aluminum alloy frame like the originals from the late 1970s and early 1980s?
Stainless steel
*forged stainless steel
More half underlugs and fixed sights please! The full underlug was the ugliest invention ever put on a revolver and only the Pythons made it look good. I'd love to see a Viper style revolver in .44 Special.
So, colt now produces a gp100 and Redhawk.
How so? The side plate frames of the Colt are different than the solid frame modular designs of the Ruger double actions. And in all fairness to Colt, the Python frame is nearly identical in size to the GP100 and the S&W L frame guns. They all fit the same holsters, and speedloaders are interchangeable between the three guns. But Python debuted 30 years before the Ruger.
On the Colt website, these revolvers look terrible. Here, they look excellent.
The grizzly is really sweet looking.
We do our best 😂
Buy an old used Smith instead… 👍🏻
This guy has no idea what he's talking about. Cool guns though.
Vanna White,,, you ain't.!!! 🦬
Are any of them worth a fuck or are they just a bunch of thousand plus dollar colts you buy to show your friends?
I feel dumber for having watched this.
No real information is given. In fact this guy is WRONG.
The Kodiak is not just a 'Grizzly in 44' it's on a different frame sized
This guy doesn't know the difference between a barrel and a cylinder.
And then when describing the Kodiak he for a minute thinks it's a non-fluted chamber!
Any decent gun video would go in and correct the voice-over, or at least on the screen put **Oops, Cylinder!**
We aren't any reasonable facts about these guns. For instance, are they priced differently that the Python, a more economical version maybe? (Nope - it's a python with ports and a smooth cylinder for $100 more) Is Colt finally squeezing 7 rounds on it's medium-large frame? Nope. Are other barrel lengths available? Nope. How much does it weigh?
Is the 357 Magnum you're talking about a non-fluent cylinder are you just kissing ass or do you know what you're talking about a fluted barrel can handle a double charge from a 357 if you going to be honest you should have told the truth and said the reason is not flooded is because it's cheaper on manufacturing that's why it's not fluted did everybody knows that even the manufacturer
Chill out KAREN!!!!!
@@user-sf3tq7cz5t
What do people call a male Karen?
Karen.! It works.
@@PerceptionVsReality333
The VIPER is a 38 Special, not a 357 magnum.
It is 357 magnum. Says right on barrel.
The classics were 38 these new ones do best of both worlds
They should charge $10,000 per gun. Really show the 2A community you dont have any interest in helping people arm themselves. Money is all that matters in life, right?
lol, Colt is a a high end brand marketed to collectors and upper middle class. It is the most collected gun brand in the world. They are aspirational high quality guns, not $300 throw away Glock clones and Brazilian revolvers. There are plenty of people that think Colt’s are the entry level into quality guns and $1K+ is the starting point for a quality revolver.
You can piss the fuck off. It ain't like it's meant to be some damn High Point or Taurus revolver that you don't give a shit about the manufacturing that's put into the gun to make it a quality gun ain't cheap so the gun ain't cheap. If you don't like the price don't buy one
Cheap original colt python copy
Colt class!
