      If I had more time I would have considered making it even longer - there was some more fun banter but I felt like I had to get it finished and it might have been getting too long. Its been so drilled in me that ten minute vids are the thing so I do love to hear that positive feedback.

    Thanks for the trip from Akron to Cleveland. I knew when I slipped away from work to my driveway in central ohio that you had me covered! Of course, nothing compares to being there in person, but you gave us the next best thing. Appreciate the great capture! And eclipse or not, I love that bike ride to the lake and back. You even threw in the typical blue heron moment, which I never take for granted. Spoiler Alert: The bonus was Edmund inspecting the tube.

    Friends, bikes, and total eclipse is a recipe for an epic day. A picture will never relay the full awesomeness of an eclipse but it may capture a small piece. My advice to anyone who has never seen totality is do what you can to see it! We drove down from Northern Michigan to the Indianapolis area and the Monon Trail for the eclipse. Like you said, absolutely the best way to find a place to watch the eclipse was by bicycle! Ended up in Carmel, Indiana and watched the eclipse from Civic Square where the town of Carmel had set up food trucks, live music, and beer! Totally great experience and very mellow. I live in Avon Lake and there was so much hype from the city and I think everyone was a little disappointed. I rode my bike around town in the morning and I did see people milling around but nothing compared to what they were expecting.
    But I couldn't help noticing the chem trails starting around 13:46 because it was happening over us too and a lot of that stuff looked like it was falling dangerously low. Love your videos and am always looking for known landmarks. I get out in the flats and tow path too. It's a long gradual climb to Akron. Stay strong!

    CT , as you probably know , got 93%. My day was a bit bizarre. Rode to Rocky Hill (awesome 8.9 mile route and weather!) to take my practice session driving test, which was scheduled during totality. (I'm 61, and stupidly, let my license fees lapse, so they make you do it all over if you lapse beyond 2 years, doh. The real test is April 23. ) So I saw it at about 1/3 through my driving instructor's welding helmet that he smartly brought along. It just got shady dark. I did OK, he said. We had a somewhat reasonable middle aged conversation. I did not drive perfectly, oh well. He noted that there weren't a lot of people on the road as we headed back to the office. Rocky Hill is a pretty nice town, clean, respectful, nice businesses. People waving. Nice work. I'm sort of 50/50- meh on it, but some of the photos I saw , (Rangley Maine) I will admit were pretty damn kewl. Yes, memories. One more for the slide show.

    • @TimFitzwater
      @TimFitzwater  5 місяців тому +1

      As I've heard others say and I hate to say but will - even a 99% eclipse is nothing like totality. When you can actually look up without the glasses, when the weird wind blows in, it gets cold out, 360 degree sunset - its just absolutely magical and hard to believe. I do understand why people chase them now. No photo or video(mine included) can do it justice.

    Maybe the media hype was to deter people from coming so we wouldn't have traffic jams. I didn't care. I was going to watch it from the trail somewhere and the closest to me was the Simon Kenton trail in Bellefontaine. So glad I went! Your in such awe it almost feels spiritual. It's no wonder the Mayans and other cultures revered it like they did. I wanted to ride 15 miles to The Great Serpent Mound to see it but it's too much road riding for me. Glad that you got to see it too. If anyone ever gets the chance and it's within a reasonable distance they should see it.

    • @TimFitzwater
      @TimFitzwater  5 місяців тому

      For sure - I think they were basing it on 2017 and it worked. They probably planned better based on that too. We were talking about how crazy it would have been for the cultures that didn't know how to predict them - must have been terrifying! There isn't much advanced warning at all. The light really became noticeable maybe ten minutes out?

    Trust me. You made the right call riding your bikes. The traffic heading south toward boston and nyc from Burlington VT was absolutely mind boggling to see that far north in New England.
    The night prior to the eclipse, I 91 northbound had a constant, never ending stream of cars the entire night. I could faintly see the highway from my airbnb. It wasn't my first time in Northern New England, and I was absolutely floored by how many people were pouring into the state.
    I planned my escape incredibly well, If I must say. I viewed it in Montpelier. I knew the extra 45 seconds of totality wouldn't make the experience any better, but it would save me 4 hours of driving. The drive home for me would normally be just under 4 hours, I made it home in less than 6. Viewed it in a parking lot right off the interstate, and immediately bailed outta there. It was a mad rush to the on ramp lol.
    Some poor guy's car broke down on one of the few overpass bridges in all of Vermont. That was what caused the first backup. I'm sure many others ran out of gas or broke down in the backup caused by this one dude. The VT state police were doing a great job keeping things moving though; there was also a ton of people driving like GTA to get home quicker. It was actually insane how people were behaving. Luckily the traffic really opened up once you got into Massachusetts. It was heavy, but moving at normal speeds.
    Heard it took some people over 12 hours to go from Burlington to NYC or Boston.

    I’m up in Washington state and I remember when it happened here and everyone went down to Oregon to see the total solar eclipse. I5 was absolutely packed with cars.
    It’s probably because we don’t have a lot of freeways. We only had one that goes north and south.
    Love the videos!

      I think the media hyped it because of what happened in 2017. We definitely do have a lot of routes around here though.
      Its awesome to know why it gets so hyped though because it is truly like nothing else.

    Oh you did it better and that's okay. We stood outside on the front porch for it and as soon as the sun started coming out we went back inside and worked. The worst part is that it was a pretty cool event and I sort of wish we'd made a bigger deal about it.

    After experiencing gridlock from Louisville to just past Columbus for the last eclipse trying to get home, I was worried about the traffic after the main event. People would trickle in all weekend, then all try to leave at once. I'm so glad you guys didn't buy the hype, braved the media's doomsday predictions, and had an amazing time!
    (We saw it in our yard, I had family in from out of town, and wouldn't trade it for the world, but secretly I'm so jealous we weren't on the lake!)

    • @TimFitzwater

      I think they probably predicted everything based on 2017 and that kept people off the roads for the most part. It was an awesome day out!
      But as you mentioned - it would have been rad at home too.

    FWIW: Research contrails. They are not all water vapor as in the past.
    Chemicals and rain plus or rain minus efforts account for huge contrails today!
