  • We breakdown how to create a multi-layer stencil! We used a combination of Photoshop and Silhouette Studio to create the stencils. We then use a Silhouette Cameo to cut the vinyl. Steps also included are breaking down layer in Photoshop on how to seperate each color onto an indiviudal layer to create your own multi layer stencils.

I actually found your channel from first coming across Marco, but I find your channel way more informative and straight to the point (rather than just watching someone just paint a shoe). Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Look forward to more vids!

    Consider a square, multiple dots or registration mark instead of a single dot. A dot is round and can still be rotated even though the dots align.

    Your dot reference point technique is commonly used in Silkscreening, its also helpful to do dots in the top left and bottom right corners to avoid pivoting the stencil out of place.

I had all my favorite tattoo stencils saved in photoshop, thought it would be fun to make prints or spray them .. but couldn’t figure it out .. i mean I could separate out each layer but then trying to manually trace cut them by hand ? No way , so hard. and now here it is- it auto cuts/prints them too?? so cool.. I need this machine.. btw your videos are really giving me an itch man I’m about to go paint all my old kicks , then buy new ones , paint those too! Haha thx for the inspiration !!!

    The dot is called a registration mark. Using just one registration mark has the disadvantage that you still might have it rotate slightly around that registration mark, which is why the industry standard is three registration marks. Registration marks are usually placed outside the design/image in three corners and are a combinaton of a cross hair plus circle segments with stencils and a full circle outline intersecting the cross hair with multi color screenprints.

    The dot on the forehead is similar to what professional printers call a registration mark. Most use a crosshair shape because it’s easier to see which way you are off.

  • @BariumCobaltNitrog3n
    @BariumCobaltNitrog3n 5 місяців тому

    I make color separations for printing and I would highly recommend using at least two registration marks (and use a plus sign instead of a dot) so there is no chance of the image rotating. Ideally they would be outside the image area and as far from each other as possible. You might have made improvements in the last 4 years though.

    I did this vinyl stencil and painted it. when I had to remove it to reveal it some of my paint was going with the vinyl like it was some kind of vinyl too.... is that because I didn't prep the leather properly or to thick layer of paint, or does it just happens sometimes? quick tip make two dots one at the top and one at the bottom then you'll angle it more precisely. if your artwork is really complicated.Thanks.

Also I guess you would recommend to put thine layers ? I hope these questions weren't already asked, but here we go (by the way I have a Cricut Explore machine). Question #1 How are you able to transfer your stencils to the shoes surface so easily? I feel like I have the hardest time getting the stencil to stay on the shoe and not be pulled up by the transfer tape. #2 I noticed most the vinyl I see is labeled as "permanent", do yo use the permanent vinyl for your stencils even though it's not going to stay on the shoe? #3 For example I have an black toe box and I want orange lettering on the toe box, would you always lay down the lettering color first and then put the letter stencil on top of that and paint over it and the rest of the toe box black?
    I love the knowledge your share and I hope you can give me some pointers on how to achieve better results. Thanks Dillon.

    • @DeJesusCustomFootwear
      @DeJesusCustomFootwear  2 роки тому +2

      Really shouldn’t be an issue if you’re using the right vinyl/transfer tape combo. So I’d definitly consider trying difffrent ones than you are now. Permanent vinyl typically means it’s gunan be a lot stronger, the fdc 3700 glitter vinyl would be listed as permanent.. in the event you want to do orange lettering on top of black you’d be totally fine laying down your stencil over the black surface and spraying inside the negative space of the stencil.

Everyone should be proper thankful to have had the RIGHT technique shown to us w/o needing to send money in first. I have a question.
    BTW I loved this video. very helpfull.. ill try making some more detailed stuff now.
    I did this vinyl stencil and painted it. when I had to remove it to reveal it some of my paint was going with the vinyl like it was some kind of vinyl too.... is that because I didn't prep the leather properly or to thick layer of paint, or does it just happens sometimes
    quick tip make two dots one at the top and one at the bottom then you'll angle it more precisely. if your artwork is really complicated.Thanks.

    • @DeJesusCustomFootwear
      @DeJesusCustomFootwear  4 роки тому

      Yeah sounds like the paint didn’t bond so I would point to the prep first.

    I've got a question about airbrushing Angelus paints - I am currenly using a 0.2mm needle and long story short - I got the advice to use either a 0.3 or 0.5mm needle since my current 0.2 is to thin. Does anyone else use a airbrush and which needle thickness do you guys use?

    • @DeJesusCustomFootwear
      @DeJesusCustomFootwear  4 роки тому +1

      Daan V the .2 is probably too thin. Especially if you’re just base coating shoes and not incredibly precise detailing with the airbrush

    I have a question: I barely started to getting into the customizing buisness and I’m wondering what’s a good airbrush I saw on amazon a masters airbrush kit but rn I’m thinking of getting the airbrush kit they have in harbor freight tools that’s is $90

      @DeJesusCustomFootwear  4 роки тому +3

      Jose and Joel the compressor from harbor freight is fine but the airbrush no good. Pick up a badger patriot 105, we have a few videos on it!

    😥😥 "OUT OF STOCK" 😥😥 Hey, D... the link for the FDC 3700 gold glitter vinyl for a fabric stencil is never in stock, do you have link for another FDC 3700 color that is available or maybe an alternative vinyl? I saw that VViViD has a blue low tack stencil vinyl available too, would that work too?

    What if you place a (+ plus sign) in the corner of the layers as the alignment reference?

    • @DeJesusCustomFootwear
      @DeJesusCustomFootwear  3 роки тому

      That actually works much better than just the dot, also having more than one in different locations can further help

    How would you make a stencil if an image had multiple colors like a skin tone with all the tones of the same color.

      OG RAY you would need a high contrast version of that image , deep dive on that topic in this video
