    YOu should change the magic mask setting to better when you use it makes a lot of difference.

    In resolve you had quality set to 'faster' ... if you set it to 'better' it would have been perfect.

      for the speedrun tests I had it actually switched to better

    Great to see your comparison with Rotobrush 3. I’m also finding Magic Mask to be especially quick after the 18.6 update and that it works quite well for this type of shot, unless the talent has a lot of stray hairs. Thanks for making it so concise and presenting the information so clearly.

    Thanks for this! I've been slowly trying to learn fusion as an attempt to move away from after effects, but I gotta keep reminding myself that stuff like this can more than easily be done in the color tab lol
    I swear every day I just fall more and more in love with Resolve

      fusion is a little scary for me still 🥺, but we'll get there! I know we will! 🙌

    Great video, really like the idea behind it! And nice to see that the next time I need to rotoscope something I can just stay in Davinci.

    You could've used the "Better" option in Magic mask instead of "Faster" for a more accurate result. And I'd honestly recommend using Fusion as it's build for stuff like this and honestly, coming from AE, once you learn nodes, there's no going back. Everything about AE seems so old and clunky and inefficient to me now lmao.

    yeah and maybe checking the ''better'' checkbox would have helped as well.... plus you just didn't mentioned that magic mask can be lost pretty quickly as soon as you change the duration of the clip, so you'll have to redo EVERYTHING after that....

  • @yassersaeed2010

    Thanks .. but obviously you are new to Resolve Magic Mask as you did not draw the line correctly and you also did not select "Better" in the "Quality" since it gives much cleaner mask than "Faster". If you did that, you would not need to do the fine tuning and retracking and you could have saved a lot of time yet getting better results.

  • @silvercleanshop5041

    As a lot of people have mentioned, you should have clicked the "Better" option, it's named that for a reason. Also, you had it on the object mask, you should have used the person mask option.

  • @barifarrag

    Magic Mask on the coloring page is designed to isolate objects in order to adjust the colors. As for using Magic Mask on the Fusion page, it is designed to isolate objects for effects. So you made the mistake of using the coloring page in comparison... you should use the fusion page

      There is no reason for what he does to use Fusion. He could have but doing it in Color works as efficiently.

    Excellent comparison! I'm in the same boat as you having to rely on After Effects for visual effects, would be best to have Davinci do everything! This video gives me the satisfaction that Davinci is pretty damn close that most people won't be able to tell!
    Thank you for this video :D

      Interested to know what kind of visual effects you are doing that you can do in AE but not in Fusion? From my knowledge, I remember Fusion being used in 1000s of Hollywood movies for compositing where AE is only used in mograph and in VFX it's an anomaly.

  • @paluche
    @paluche 9 місяців тому +1

    Thanks for this great video! It's really useful! I'm currently wondering whether to switch to Resolve or not, but AE is obviously a key part in this... Do you feel you could soon do projects completely without After Effects ? In particular do you still rely on it for titles/advanced texts or other things ?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @spencertorok
      @spencertorok  9 місяців тому +3

      If the project has no motion graphic animations I've been full Resolve. I have migrated my own text packs into resolve so I mostly rely on those. I am fairly close to leaving AE behind.

    under 10 sec boom here is your, text behind the person!!!😂😂😂
    (Capcut can handle human objects only as of now)
    Joke apart davinci's workflow is way faster and can correct wrong mask later on at any stage of editing. I love davinci resolve.😊

    It is obvious that Davinci's performance is faster and better,you need to use the better button. Now Davinci integrates editing, VFX, and sound editing, fully supporting GPU acceleration performance, and is currently the best tool for editing movies and videos. Adobe AE is very arrogant and ridiculous, I remember for a while, they disregarded user opposition and completely canceled the CPU rendering function, which made me throw away this arrogant tool and fully use Davinci. It seems that my choice is completely correct

    The only thing “magical” is how everyone on UA-cam that says Magic Mask is wonderful, uses ridiculous non real life examples where most of what’s being used to “demonstrate” how good it is hardly moves. Try doing it on a person that moves around the frame, looks away and back again and see how long (or little) it takes this useless trick to lose the track. It’s a total waste of time but hey, they got my 304€ so to Black Magic it’s another idiot that fell for it.

      It seems that your abilities are very limited, which is ridiculous. Daivnci not only has MagicMask, but also a manual and precise Roto tool, which no VFX tool can compare to. As a standard color palette tool in the film industry, it is designed for professionals to use, not for low-level users who are incompetent and enjoy shouting😑

    • @m3photo726
      @m3photo726 2 місяці тому

      @@ThomasLiuxing Now you’ve opened the box by insulting I’m free to reply accordingly.
      For someone who mentions limited abilities you’re well capable of losing concentration and steering off the point I’m criticizing which is only the Magic Mask. I’m fully aware of the Roto tool and the fact that DaVinci (not ‘Daivnci’) is the best industry standard for colour management. Whether or not the user is professional is of no bearing on the fact that BlackMagic put the Magic Mask out on the market much too soon as it is plainly still very much in its infancy.
      Also, those who “enjoy shouting” while on a written forum do so in capital letters, my limited friend.
